I know this is sooo late, but as I haven't even finished my January one it is a miracle this is getting done.
I am going to condense it down into the highs and lows otherwise it'll be an unfinished repeat.
Cast : Me, DH, DS (10) and DD (turned 5 the day we arrived)
Where: DCR
When: 30th August - 4th September
Highs:
- Stars n Cars parade - I absolutely LOVED this. I loved everything about it - the music, the little show, the interaction. The first time we saw it was on DD's birthday and I have to praise one of the CM's really highly. He saw DD stood there in her Tinkerbell dress and Birthday Badge on and came over to her, wished her happy birthday and brought loads of characters over to meet her. She got lovely personalised autographs from Donald, Aladdin, Jasmine, Mushu, Gaston and the Evil Queen (although she was hiding behind me at that point as she is terrified of her). Gaston was fantastic - very full of himself, telling my husband that if he wasn't in such a kind mood, he would be fighting him for my hand in marriage
- Princess Meet & Greet with Ariel and Eric - a really lovely meet, so friendly and chatty and to top it off, the spotted DD in the crowd on the parade that evening and waved straight at her.
- Tower Of Terror - my very favourite ride; we baby swapped on this as the kids flat out refused to go on after last time and I ended up sat next to this huge tatooed German guy who was grabbing my hand and sobbing by the end of it.
- The Weather! Last year when we went in August it rained - a lot. Then we went in January where it was sooooo unbearably cold. In stark contrast to these, the weather was gorgeous, apart from the one day when it rained. It makes everything so much better when you are not freezing cold.
- Davy Crockett Ranch. Vastly underated in my opinion. We spent a lovely afternoon hanging around the playground, archery and the pool when the park was horribly busy.
- Minnies Train. Apart from the screeching (!) this is a firm favourite. In fact wherever we are, DD hears that tune and makes a beeline for Main Street. After the first day, we figured out where to wait for the characters when they disembark and so we were there, waiting for them to arrive. Big thumbs up to Jessie, Daisy and Pinnochio, all of who saw DD and DS waiting patiently and made sure they signed their books.
- Mickeys Magical Party Time Dance thingy - I actually quite enjoyed this. It was better than I imagined it would be and kept DD quiet for 20 minutes!
- Unscheduled meets. We seemed to see characters all over this trip including ones we never managed to catch, such as Robin Hood, Rabbit, Peter Pan and Alice. Sadly Peter and Alice were on their way somewhere so didn't stop, but Peter did grab DD's hand and twirl her round before blowing her a kiss.
- The Brass Band - what a lovely sight to welcome us in a morning.
I am sure there are lots more as we didn't have really major lows but these are some of the niggles.
Lows:
- Cafe Mickey. Had a really poor meal here. DD's Pizza was cold, DS's was burnt (and I mean, black). The waiter was awful - he took their food away and never brought it back
It was DD's birthday and we ordered the cake which they brough over without putting the music on and without the characters coming over
I was not happy and to be honest, for what we paid I probably wouldn't go back there again. Although the character interaction was fab, we'll probably go somewhere different next time as I don't think really the food is good enough for the amount you pay.
- The rudeness. No point elaborating as we all know what it is like. Needless to say I stood my ground, did not allow a grown woman to push my 5yr old out of the way whilst waiting for the parade and said a few choice swear words to her in her native language. I think elbows were also involved
- Buzz Ride. Only because out of the ten or so times I rode it, over half of the time one of us had a faulty gun. (And also I am rubbish when I had a working one!)
- Rock n Rollercoaster. Now I love coasters and will do any but I hated this. I was so, so scared, I thought I was going to die. My 10yr old loved it
- Dance Time With Stitch. Lazy Town on acid. Just awful beyond words which is a shame as Stitch Live is brilliant.
At the moment we have no trips planned to DLP as we are (apparently) going to Florida next year. DS - now 10 - is a bit bored of DLP
whereas myself and DD would go every week if we could. We are currently looking at the possibility of getting AP's for us two and going on a weekend. She would be quite happy to watch the shows, parades and potter around as opposed to going on lots of rides. I am a bit annoyed at myself that I didn't go for the free under 7's AP offer - fingers crossed another good one will come on soon.
