Jeanne (tropical storm)...

Tropical storm Jeanne has sustained winds of 65 mph right now-starting to sound like a pro! It's supposed to hit Ft Lauderdale (basically me) Monday morning. All this according to Shepard Smith-what does he know anyway???? All I can think about is our THIRD attempt since Labor Day weekend to go on our trip. We are supposed to leave Thursday. This is beyond ridiculous!

our local tv weather guys (who have become household names in our town lately because of all the hurricanes) swear it won't hit

too bad it's too early to really say that, the 5 day track does have a possibility of it hitting FL. I wouldn't panic over it but I wouldn't shrug it off either

Your Tampa weather people sound like positive thinkers,I could use a little of that about now! Here in the West Palm Beach area, where Frances just came thru, they are showing Jeanne hopefully missing us,but keep reminding that we are still well within the "cone of probability." I was ready to leave town before facing Ivan, I'll stick around for Jeanne, but haven't had a good nights sleep in a week. Tampa on the West coast is a safer bet to miss this one, then us on the east coast.
Haven't heard about another brewing behind Jeanne,I really hope you are wrong, but you are probably right!
In the meantime I am saying prayers for all the poor people on the Gulf coast waiting for Ivan to hit.

If we didn't have our trip booked and paid for (its a land/sea vacation) I would definitely be rescheduling for another time. It is just too "iffy" trying to fit in a nice trip between hurricanes. Plus, to spend all that money and end up sitting in a hotel room watching the rain pour down (even if you aren't IN the hurricane, there is bound to be some effects) would be a total waste.

If we were just driving down -- no, I wouldn't do it.

I suggest that a new "seasonal" board be started... the Hurricane Watch... bet we could do better than some of the weather men on the weather channel :jester: I work for the school district here in SW Fl & we were sent an email today saying that we should be on the look out for this storm... and that Ivan was x amount of miles past us & will be of no threat to us..but it didn't look as "promising" for Jeanne. Now that is what was sent to us at noonish... so who knows... if it hit you guys on the east coast, it can come thru to us..but hey, I cancelled my ressies & havn't rebooked, so don't worry....it will not hit FL ... just my "stupidstishish" thinking...:yo-yo: But I am going to watch it... after experiencing Charley first hand... I am watching any out there...

really, I hadnt heard or read anything about it hitting ft lauderdale monday morning. I have to drive my brother to the airport that am. I watched my nightly fix of steve weagle- my local weatherman here is palm beach county and he wasnt too concerned about it hitting here at all. He said all the maps indicate it heading up the coast and not fla. I hope he is right.

that's the same thing people were saying with Ivan... which missed central FL. Heck even the storms that have hit WDW haven't caused that much of a problem (fran caused worse problems where i live than in WDW, my dad STILL has to boil water before he drinks it because of fran).

I'm not going unprepared, I'll take a few days worth of canned food and other stuff in case I get stuck in the resort for a little while but canceling for a storm that is more likely to miss FL than hit (and isn't even a cane yet)?!?! That's silly.

p.s However I sure wouldn't be taking a cruse.. castaway might not even be open and the rest of the islands have been devastated by these storms.

Isn't it a shame?

But I am more optimistic about the cruise. WDW is likely to have lots of rain -- whereas the captain of the ship simply cruises around or ahead of the storm. Wherever the weather is sunny, the ship goes!

BTW, Castaway Cay is open and running, as are all of the other ports aside from Grand Cayman, but we weren't going there anyway.

If by chance, the Bahamas are in the midst of another hurricane during our cruise, we will just visit other ports and that is fine with me!

I am *very* excited about the cruise and nothing can bring me down about that!

I know storms can change at any time, but all the news stations here in Tampa have all but guaranteed that Jeanne is not coming to Florida.

They are now saying it may just skim the coast and then hit the Carolinas. Last time it did that we got hurricane Isabel last year! Lets hope it goes out to sea!

Let's hope it keeps going right and misses FL all together...7 days and counting.

Looks like we could use some directional smilies to put in a request or two to mother nature.

We are going down to WDW Sat - Thurs and then plan a stay in FLL Thurs - Sun.

It looks like we are going to have rain the whole trip. At least many attractions are indoors, but I sure hope the rain stops at some point so that we can enjoy Test Track and Splash Mountain.

I just watched the tropical update for Hurricane Jeanne at 2:50pm on Thursday, (9/16) and according to the weather channel she looks to go WNW. Looking at the cone of "error" (All of us Floridians are so familiar with this!) The cone goes up the east side of Florida. They said once it hits the Bahamas, (sorry all Disney cruiseliners!) they will have a better idea as to where it is heading. That should be by Sunday. I hope she heads north, we can not take another hurricane! (Bonnie, Charley, Frances, Ivan,... we are so tired of hurricanes!)

Loretta, hey girl, I am right there with you! I live on the Pinellas/ Pasco boarder in the Trinity area! We love our newscasters! Hope you faired well through Frances! We did pretty good, no damage. She wore me out though. I work at the Home Depot. If I even think about another sheet of plywood I'll go nuts!

But hey, we're here for the community!

Stay safe!

Jaime

I think my fair state of NC will get this one. We live closer to the mountains, but our mountains have had significant flooding from Frances and now Ivan will be here tonight dumping tons of rain.

I'm happy that Disney is still standing - and that FL doesn't have to deal with another hurricane.

Florida, don't worry, NC will take this one. Heck, it's our turn. I'm hoping nobody has to weather it, but chances are.....

Jeanne BETTER stay away since I just rebooked for next weekend. We just left BR this morning and made it all the way to Mobile, only to find out the I-10 bridge in Pensacola was "washed away" and the interstate was blocked right before getting to Florida. And we checked with highway patrol before leaving and all roads were open. :(
We were going to head a bit north and go around, but since power was out and gas stations were not in operation, we couldn't chance running out of gas and being stuck in Alabama.
THIS STINKS!!!!

I like your attitude :) You aren't afraid to have us share them with you :jester: I hope we here in FL don't have to see any from Jeanne, I aslo hope you aren't hit either... I don't want to see anyone hit with it. Our local weather just said (as typing) that if Jeanne follows the center of the cone, yes FL is in the cone, but the center of the cone does head towards the Carolina's, it should go up towards the Carolina's. If it shifts to the west, we will feel it here somewhere in FL & if it shifts to the east...no one will feel it... and that is what I am shooting for....the shift to the east....::yes::

Hey guys!

We just got through Jeanne here in PR, and she's just wobbling. But our forecasters here in the NOAA hurricane center also feel that she'll go east and towards the Carolinas.

We got dumped on, and only 15% of the island has electricity (I'm on my laptop, running down my battery, and connecting through modem), but at least my part of the island should be up and running by tomorrow.

Good luck with everything, and crossing my fingers that Jeanne just misses the U.S. altogether!

next week. Could make for a bumpy ride down from PA in the middle of the week. Hopefully we will fly around it and not over the storm. Looks like I will have to pack a few extra pair of underwear in my carry-on and hope the beverage cart is fully loaded(if the beverage cart even comes out!).

Last time I flew over or near one of these, the ride was bumpy(understatement of the year!), the overhead compartments were coming open, things were falling out, and no beverage cart. Worst thing about it, the pilot never said a word the whole flight. Many white knuckles on that one!!!

Dh hopes to get out tomorrow. Only lost power at hotel for 45 minutes. His business got cancelled. It has been an experience for him. Glad you are OK as well......Thanks for your kind words and offers.......
