Jealous of playground on RCCL

I chose disney cruise for the family/kid activities and am very excited for our cruise. However, I’ve been watching YouTube videos of RCCL’s newest ship and I’m kinda jealous of the playground area. Ik my daughter would love running and playing on the playground area on a ship. I wish disney would add something like that to their ships. I know they have some play areas in the kids club but I want to be able to be with my kid as she is having fun.

I don’t want to go on a mega ship cause it just feels like too many people but I am still jealous of the playground area.

anyone else think it would be cool if disney put a playground on their ship? I feel like I have a very fuzzy memory from being a small child on the big red boat and there being some place on the ship to play like a park but my mind could be confusing the ship and an island we visited cause I was very very little on that ship.

Pretty sure that the "Hero Zone" on the Wish is going to have bouncies or similar.

This is why we are trying the Encore on NCL for summer 2023. My dd is now a teen and we are looking for more things to do on the ships. We are going on our 8th DCL in 13 days. Have enjoyed all our cruises, but can only play so many games of midship detective agency. I picked a NCL ship that isn't a megaship, because I don't want something that big. But it has more to do and holds same amount of passengers as the Fantasy. You can go into Oceaneer's during open house to see your dd play.

I will be doing that. I honestly don’t know how much she will be in the oceaneers club besides during open house. It is a mommy and DD cruise so we will be spending lots of time together. I’m super excited for the cruise. The playground or lack of one doesn’t change my excitement. I just think it’s a neat detail that would be cool if DCL had.

I’m with you. It seems like a relatively simple thing to have. I know my kids would use it if it was there. Doesn’t make or break my cruise but it wouldn’t hurt to have one more thing for that age group

that’s what I was thinking. Another way to absorb some of the people and it doesn’t require any staffing. I’m kinda surprise they don’t have a playground but there must be some reason they don’t.

Currently it is space - they would have to remove something to add it to the current ships. It requires a certain amount of room, so you’re going to have to go bigger to get that.

As I said and was linked to earlier, there is going to be that bouncy zone on the Wish. Things change and are different on different ships. Even Royal is not retrofitting the older ships with those. You have to decide what matters more - a playground or never going on a mega ship.

And I am pretty sure there will be staff around like land lifeguards.

RCCL doesn’t have any crew watching the kid…at least from the YouTube videos, I didn’t see any. I could see size being an issue but I’m sure disney could make it work if they wanted to.

and as I said before, the playground does not make or break my cruise. I just think it’s a neat idea that my kid would love. Honestly, on the RCCL videos, I didn’t see any kids playing on the playground and maybe that’s why DCL doesn’t have them. Maybe they wouldn’t be as popular as the thugs they have now. I think disney has a lot of things that make DCL great, which is why we chose to cruise with them for my daughter’s first cruise. I’m super excited to see all the Wish has to offe

They could by taking out something that already exists - if they put it in the front, on Dream Class that would take away more adult-only areas and if they put it on the aft that would take away mini-golf, etc.

They built it into the Wish plans just as RCCL built it into the plans for the ships they have it on. Like I said, at this point they are not retro-fitting the old ships to be just like the new ones. I like it when different ships have something to offer.

I have seen the pictures of the playground and its really cute, but honestly on a DCL cruise it would be a mad house I suspect. RCCL has far less kids onboard than Disney does especially with 8 and under.

Inflatables? That's so cheap and cheesy looking! It's like a kids birthday party place. Hope they didn't break the bank on that! :rotfl2:
The reason it is inflatable is they set up for the incredibles activity and then disassemble it to use the space for other activities.

Or replace the basketball court in goofy’s sports deck. I have never seen anyone playing basketball on a disney ship. Probably more of a weight/balance issue than a space issue now that I think about it. That could also explain why inflatables on the wish as those are more lightweights than durable equipment.

I've seen people playing AND I've seen them use it for some outside Kids or Teen Club activities.

My daughter has hung out at the basketball court with teens and says that it's frequently busy.

I agree. If you are on the Dream, just watch the Nemo's reef area when younger kids are playing in this area. The older kids will come in and run around and sliding down the slide and I have seen many younger kids get knocked down and hurt. The good thing about the clubs is that they are somewhat segregated by age. They never police Nemos reef to keep the older kids out. Heaven forbid that one of the pools get closed.
