WOW!! My dd and I went to Jazz Kitchen last week for dinner. We noticed the double chocolate bread pudding dessert on the menu with the notice that you should preorder it as it takes 25 minutes to prepare. We did, and were we glad! I've never had bread pudding before nor did I ever really want it, but holy cow, that was one of the best things I've ever eaten! It comes to your table hot from the oven. It looks something like a popover in its pot. The server told us it's chocolate and has chocolate chunks baked into it. Then the server proceeds to pour both white and regular chocolate into the middle! You then get to have the remainder to pour in or dip with or whatever. We did not leave a crumb or drop of anything. I didn't take pictures but I googled and found this:

We had heard wonderful things about their Bananas Foster so we went back the next night to try that as well. Excellent, and a fun show since they prepare it and set it on fire at your table, but there was no beating the double chocolate bread pudding.

That looks fantastic! It almost looks like a souffle. What was the consitency? Was it dense or more fluffy?

It looks really good.

Oh man that looks good! DH despises soggy bread- was this soggy/mushy at all?

I had always hesitated about ordering bread pudding because the thought of soggy bread was such a turnoff. This was not bread--not the pieces of bread you normally associate with bread pudding. It was baked like a popover, crusty on the outside and soft like cake inside. It baked in a way that rose and folded over the sides with a kind of hollow in the center. That's where they poured the chocolate sauces.

It was a little like a brownie except fluffier inside. I've not really had anything I can think of that it would compare to so it's hard for me to describe the consistency, but it was not mushy or soggy at all. It melted in your mouth and oh, those sauces mixed in with it...!

I am sooo sharing this info. with my DH. He loves chocolate cake, I bet he would try to make this for us when we were back home again, too. Win/win situation. :)

Thanks!

Mmm that sounds delicious! Going on our list of treats for next trip!

Ooooo! You are so lucky!! If he figures out how to make it, could you give me his recipe???

This sounds a lot like souffle. I just showed DH this picture and it is now on our must do list for this weekend. Thanks DizMe!

OH, that's one of DH's and my favorites. We each get a salad and then splurge on the double chocolate souffle. YUM!!

It pretty much sets up like a soufflé, not to be missed.

The bananas Foster is also pretty good, prepared table side a nice bonus.

Aha! That's what it is...more of a souffle than bread pudding, I bet. It's nothing like the bread pudding I've seen elsewhere, but I've never had souffle so I can't say for sure that's what it is.

If you're having dinner, I can highly recommend the beef medallions!!! DD and I split it and they gave us each our own plate with our own sides and we each had a whole filet mignon. They didn't even charge us extra. The sides included beans and crayfish mashed potatoes, which were absolutely delicious. The filet was perfect. It was so cool because just as we were brought our drinks, the fireworks began and we had a wonderful view of them! BTW, my drink was great, too! I don't remember what it was called but I think raspberry was in the title and it had raspberry puree in it. The only thing that wasn't very good was the coffee, but hey, it's DLR and good coffee is a rarity.

The bananas foster was excellent, too. Our server set up the little stove at our tableside and prepared the caramel sauce right there in the pan. He added the bananas and then the alcohol for the flame effect. It includes a big scoop of vanilla bean (I think) ice cream and is very yummy. Still, dd and I agreed it wasn't as good as the double chocolate bread pudding and it cost more. I think bananas foster is $16 and the pudding is $11. Both are easily enough for 2 to share and you can just do what we did...go twice and have both!
