Stayed at Polynesian
We have just returned today from a four day tide us over trip to WDW until we go for eight days in Sept. We have a tendency to take these trips often. We stayed at the Polynesian and absolutley loved it. This was our first stay here, we have stayed at alot of the others and we always spend some time here but staying here was great. It is our favorite resort of them all. We arrived on Wed, May 9. We got our rental car and were on our way. We arrived at the Poly at about 10:30am and we valet parked and had our bags taken. We decided to go ahead and pre checkin, and to our surprise our room was ready. We stayed in Rapa Nui on the third floor. We had requested Tahiti, however Rapa Nui was next to it so we said what the hell, we're at Disney World, it will be alright. We loved staying in Rapa Nui, it is one of the farthest from the Great Ceremonial House but it is right next door to the Ticket and Transportation Center. It is at most a five minute walk from our room. We hopped in one of the golf carts and went off to check out our room. It was nice and clean and we had no complaints. Next we walked over to the TTC and hopped on the monorail over to the Magic Kingdom, everything was going great except the monorail ahead of ours was having problems so we sat between the Contemporary and the MK for about twenty five minutes. After what seemed like forever we were walking under the train station and into a fantasy world. We did all the classics, all the mountains, and Haunted Mansion. We ate at Peco's, our favorite counter service at MK. We did alittle shopping on Main St and then back to our room for a nap. We had a PS at Narcoosee's, another first for us. I can now say that Narcoosee's in now our favorite restaurant,(move over San Angel Inn). It was sooooo good, and the view was beautiful, we had a window seat and a great view of the castle. Now that we were stuffed, we browsed the Grand Floridian grounds and just relaxed in the atmosphere. Next stop was the Contemporary for some more shopping and relaxing and then back to the Poly for some time on the beach and to get some sleep for the next day.
Thursday, was Epcot day and we had breakfast at the Land(our favorite breakfast place) and it was very good as usual. Next we rode Spaceship Earth. We had already decided to hop over to MGM and ride Rock-N-Rollercoaster and Tower of Terror. Two of the best rides in all of WDW in our opinion. We had some lunch at Sunset Market Ranch and it was good. We toured around MGM some and then we did The Great Movie Ride, and then it was time for another nap. We decided to spend the evening at World Showcase. We ate in the American pavillion and then watched the classic rock allstars in the American gardens theatre. They played a forty five minute set and I thougt that they were good. Next we visited each of the pavillions and rode the Malestrom and the El Rio del Tiempo in Mexico. We had a late dinner at Beaches and Cream another of our favorites. We did alittle more shopping at the Beach and Yacht club and called it a night.
Friday, another morning at the MK. We ate breakfast at Tony's Town Square and I had a few bites and it made me feel sick. I had an omlett and I dont know what happened, I just felt bad. I told the waitress I was sorry and would be happy to pay for it and she would not let me. She got a great tip! We rode the Jungle Cruise and Splash Mountain a couple of more times as well as Space Mountain again. We also rode Peter Pan. We then had lunch at Casey's, I love Casey's and for the first time in eleven trips to WDW the old time baseball game in the back of Casey's was working. By the way, if anyone plays it, I had twenty nine runs
Back for a nap and then it was onto Animal Kingdom Lodge to eat at Boma's. I have to say that I was not blown away by the AKL. I'm sorry. I remember the first time that I saw the Wilderness Lodge,
that blew me away. Anyway, Boma's was ok, the food I had was good, I guess that maybe I expected too much or something. We looked around the resort for a while and then went over to Downtown Disney and looked through all the shops and bought alot too. End of day.
Saturday, we had breakfast at Captain Cooks at the Poly. We had scheduled the Keys to the Kingdom tour. It was the highlight of the trip. I urge everyone to give this a try. Our tour guide was Matt and he was execellent. I did learn some new things about the MK that I did not know. I has a chance to talk to Matt alot during and after the tour and here is some good new gossip, oh yeah we had lunch at Colmbia Harbour House as part of the tour,we really enjoyed lunch here.
The gossip, Mission Space is ahead of schedule and under budget. You will be in a F-49 fighter plane cockpit and it will be spun around very fast inorder to feel the weightnessless. It sounded really cool to all of us. I am sorry to say that the rumor of the Carousel of Progress may really be on the chopping block, it seems that it;s time is precious. Aladdin's Magic Carpet ride is set to open within a week, it looked cool and the spitting camels should be alot of fun. ATTENTION PIN TRADERS!
This is the big one unless you already know about it. For Walt's 100 birthday celebration there will be a new parade in the MK. Disney will be releasing new pins that interact with the floats in the parade. They will light up make noises and other stuff when the float that corresponds with that pin passes by. I am not into the pin trading but this sounds really different and fun to me. So be advised. WDW is also now doing card trading. I got into this big time. Here is how it works. There are two types of cards. There are all the different animated movie posters and then there are the character cards. I liked the movie poster cards and you could buy a limited edition movie reel tin that had the whole collection in it. It is limited to 5000. You guessed it, I got mine. Here is the tricky part of all this. There are five special cast member cards also. You have to trade one of your card with a cast member inorder to get these. There is a resort card,a MK, MGM,Epcot, and Animal Kingdom card. You can only get each card at its location. We spent alot of time getting each one but they are really nice and we enjoyed the hunt. I think that takes care of it, if not or any questions just ask me.
Now where was I before all that other stuff, oh yeah, another nap and then we had dinner at Kona's. Perfect, one of the best as always, never a disapointment here. We hopped over to Epcot(Future World) and just hung out, we did ride Spaceship Earth again. We had some ice cream at the Land pavillion in the Sunshine Season Food Fair. We spent the last evening at the Poly on the quiet beach in a swing talking and watching the fireworks over the castle, a nice way to end the day and our trip.
You might be saying they did not ride alot of rides, we really tried to relax more than other trips. We have been to WDW many times in the last three years and we always do commando mode(you all know exactly what I'm talking about) and we really wanted to take it easy and stop to smell the roses. We feel that this may be the best trip we have ever taken. We are going back in Sept. and we may do a little commando mode, however we are going to more relaxing and enjoying WDW. If you have read all this, than thank you, and if you have any questions just ask and I'll answer them all. I know I forgot somethings but there is always next time. Thank you,
Jay&Jenn
