I have rocks in my garden, but not a Japanese rock garden.

Are you thinking of starting one? They look very beautiful, serene.

Suzy Mouse, I've noticed all kinds of books on Japanese Gardens that are available online, and of course, at local bookstores. That might be the best place to start.

I have a friend who did a water garden right next to her pool. It's a beautiful place to sit and dream. I don't know if it's considered Japanese or not, but I thoroughly enjoy it!

Suzy Mouse, if you get a handle on this and decide to do it, please let us know. AND POST PICS! I'm sure we'd all enjoy seeing the finished product!

Hi again Suzy Mouse ! I also am interested in Japanese Gardening. I just bought a great book called 'Japanese Gardens In A Weekend- Projects For 1, 2 or 3 Weekends' by Robert Ketchell. It has many wonderful projects from the very small to large. I'm going to try a small one this year and work my way up to a large one incorperating my pond ( in 10 years maybe ? LOL ).

Thank you for the welcome Snowwark ! I'm going to try a small Zen style garden (gravel that you rake into patterns around rocks) in a shady area on the east side of my house. I'm still pretty new to gardening so I thought I might give the Zen garden a try (fewer plants to kill LOL !). I'll post how it goes when I'm done(is gardening ever Really done ? ).

It sounds fascinating MomE@Home. I didn't realize the rocks represented islands. I was reading the site linked below, and thought the picture of the stone "bridge" was very nice too.

No, gardening is never done, that's part of the fun!! We look forward to hearing how your new garden is taking shape.

I wish I had the land to do something really nice. Unfortunately I only have an itty bitty piece.
We're putting in a patio and I wanted to do this right by the steps going up to it.

The landscaper suggested a Japanese dwarf maple...3/4 stones (I forget what they are called) and a large rock. Maybe a few small bushes. Then what I plan to do is try to find some Japanese accessories to put around the landscaping.
