During my next trip I'd like to try one of the Japanese restaurants in World Showcase. Which one would you pick, and why? I have the DDP, so cost is not an issue. Also, I'll be solo.

I really enjoy Teppan Edo because of it being so interactive. You really don't have anywhere else in WDW to get this experience and I just think it's really fun!

This is difficult to answer without knowledge of your personal tastes and endeavors in food.

Teppan Edo is just fun. It really is, with the entertaining chefs and the elegant atmosphere. I think the food was pretty good, nothing too spectacular, but very fresh and without a doubt simple yet successful. Go here if you are not too adventurous.

Tokyo Dining has nice appetizers.. I loved the tofu salad. I also like seaweed salad and the vegetable croquette looked appetizing. If you are not into tempura or sushi, maybe not go there. The Japanese style grilled meats with sauces were a little plain and maybe not "ritzy" enough. They were, however, pretty authentic. The sushi, while not as good Cali Grill, was some of the best sushi I have ever had. I love it when they get it right---and they did. It had a very modern and sophisticated atmosphere.

So, I really can't answer that! My preference is Tokyo Dining but I'm quite adventurous and don't like sharing my table.

More flexible with menu and in my opinion better food.Teppan Edo was our favorite but now we prefer Toyko Dining.:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes Danny

I am a little concerned about sharing the table. Since I'm solo, I would feel very uncomortable if I ended up at a table with people with completely different tastes then me. I get along with a lot of people easily, and can be very social, but I wouldn't want to end up at a table with people who I'm afraid would think I was weird for traveling solo, let alone taking pictures of my food, or that were obnoxious or had horrible table manners, and would make me feel disquisted.

If you get along with people, please do try Teppan Edo. We were there last week and had a great time! :thumbsup2

We really enjoyed Tokyo Dining. I talk to people for a living and don't want to have to make chit chat with strangers on vacation. (Oh gee whiz, how bad does that sound?) I like to dine solo as well, and I would definitely chose Tokyo. Great sushi as well!

That's the only resturant where I've had a bad experience as a solo diner, so I understand your fear. I was seated next to a teenaged girl who obviously had encountered her worst nightmare-being seated next to a middle-aged stranger (thank goodness she didn't know I was a TEACHER besides-then she probably would have run away). I used to teach teenagers so I wasn't shocked by her actions, but it was kind of disappointing when my attempts at conversation were met with monsyllabic. unenthusiastic responses. And since I was at the end of the table, in a rather loud resturant, she was my only hope for conversation. I don't know which one of us was more glad to see the meal end.

As a solo diner- i would chose Tokyo DIning. Personally I hate sharing a table so I only do the hibachi when I with my family and can sandwich between them. Our experience at Tokyo dining- we had a great experience, food was terrific, service was excellent and it was wonderful

Did they get Teppan Edo back on the dining plan? I have ADR's in June and I was told they were "hoping" to be on the plan. We did a DCL cruise and our tablemates were from Japan and didn't speak any English. THAT was awkward!

Don't even try Biergarten.

I've never been anywhere at WDW where anyone gave a darn who was solo or who took pictures.

We got back 2 weeks ago & ate at Teppan Edo. Oh my gosh - it was fabulous! The chef could have been more interactive, in my opinion (I forgot to request Kimmiko as recommended by my DVC owner who rented me points). I had the filet mignon and it melted in my mouth - BEST STEAK EVER :cloud9: My DBFF had the chicken and she's eaten alot at these type of Japanese restaurants and she loved it.

We had 8 p.m. reservations since we arrived later than originally planned but it worked out great. Right after dinner, we walked out to the balcony and watch Illuminations. Great spot for viewing (thanks Kathleen again for another great tip). We are planning a return trip in December and will definitely go again - highly recommended.
