I am thinking it would be fun to pick a pearl in Japan, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with having them made into jewelry there. I realize it would depend on what you wanted done with it, but I was wondering how much it might cost to have a ring/necklace made. Any input would be fantastic!

Thanks!

During my trip in August, I picked a pearl and had it made into a necklace. If I remember correctly, the cheapest necklace pendant (I didn't buy the chain from them, just the pendant) was about $10. I picked out a sterling silver "x" shaped pendant with the pearl dangling below. I was thrilled with how well it came out and I believe it was $30 on top of the $14 cost to pick the pearl...so about $45 total. I went cheap with sterling silver - the prices go way up if you pick gold - all personal preference. Can't help you on the ring - didn't investigate that route. Good luck and have fun. My DD's and I had a blast!!

Does anyone have any pics of the pearls they picked- either in settings or not. I really want to do this on this trip! I always read about people picking them with their daughters, so I hope I don't look silly, being it will just be my and DBF! :lmao:

You won't look funny. While I do pick pearls with DD, we've seen adult couples, young newlyweds, and solo travelers in line as well. Enjoy!

I guess it depends on if you are getting your pearl from an oyster in the aquarium there, or from Mikimotos. :)

I saw this being done when i was down a couple of weeks ago. It was $13.89 + tax for the pearl. Not sure on the setting prices... it was neat, you pick which oyster you want, she opens it for you. You can either take it like that, or get it set.

I really loved picking a pearl from Japan. The settings were in various price ranges.

I did this last week! The ring settings start at $29 (sterling silver), I believe and go up from there. This is in addition to the price of picking a pearl. Also, in case you were wondering, it usually takes them about 15-20 minutes to do the setting on the rings unless it is super busy. :Pinkbounc

We just did this last Wednesday night - (boo hoo - last Wednesday I was in WDW and now I am home and at work again  ) ... anyway ... it was so much fun.

Just DH and I - no kids - I bought my little ticket to pick one (total with tax $14.80). No one was standing around.

Then I picked an ugly hairy one ... and the CM opens it ... very pretty PINK pearl. It was 7 MM which is not worthy of a gong (on his little gong). I think anything above 7 MM gets the gong. Anyway, still it was beautiful!

I had it set in a white gold ring with two little zircons (they are chips ... maybe they are diamond chips - I don't know). Anyway, it is beautiful. About 20 minutes until the pearl is set then you must wait 10 hours before wearing. Remember I did choose white gold and it was $179.99 total. There were sterling rings under $40. I did not look at the pendents but the ones I've seen of pearls in little cages were so cute ... don't know the price on them.

It was so much fun and looking at the ring just reminds me of that lovely evening at Epcot. We ate at Le Cellier and saw Illuminations for the first time. I  DH and  WDW!

This has become a tradition for my boyfriend and I. The prices range on the setting you pick, but you do NOT have to get it set there if you want something different from a store back home. It is well worth the experience and I highly recommend it! :)

I did the Pick a Pearl in Japan on our vacation
in June, it was great and I really enjoyed it.
I picked the pearl with my DH and two sons watching.
It cost $13.95 to pick a pearl and I got a 7mm white pearl.
I then chose the silver cage which was around $19.00.
Here is a photo:

I love it and plan to do it everytime I am at Epcot.

Epcot is my favorite place to open oysters. It's so much fun. I got twins the first time I did it. I Bought a gold cage pendant to put them in. It's not as cute as the one above, because I had to get the biggest one so they would both fit. I'm sorry, I forgot the price. I got the earrings there too. They are a bit different in color, but you cant tell when they're on. The pearls are all lovely in person, the picture really washed out their color and luster.

I've also opened them at the pearl factory in DTD... Have to say that they are under pressure to sell sell sell. I also found that some of them are nicer than others and a snotty pearl opener can ruin a fun experience. There is a pearl factory in Sea World (or used to be) and those girls were great and a lot of fun.

Have fun and good luck! :yay:

I agree that the DD Pearl Factory ladies are more high pressure! Dh and I were wandering around a couple of weeks ago on our anniversary trip, and since he hadn't bought me a card (he swears he thought he could buy one at Disney -- yeah, right ;) ), he decided to get me a pearl. :goodvibes

He picked an oyster with a large cream pearl and they had us yell "Aloha!" as they opened it, then they rang a little gong. They tried to sell us a (gorgeous!) baguette diamond setting for a pendant but it was almost $600! Not that I wouldn't have loved it, LOL, and it would've gone perfect with my wedding ring. ;) But we ended up with a yellow gold sort of swirly deal with a diamond at the top ... she called it the "Infinite Love" setting. Very pretty! Altogether it was about $208.

It only took about 3 minutes to drill and set it, and then I had to leave it alone for 24 hours for the glue to set (they tape it up with scotch tape!). Oh, and they do a lifetime guarantee on the pearl and setting, which is nice. :)

I think if I do it again, though, I'd like to try it in Japan.

We were just there last month and one of the first things my daughter and I do is go to the Japan Pavillion and pick pearls! my first one was 8 mm and cream colored, then I got 7mm twins! I also got a 9 mm pink! I had the twins set into a pair of earings and I had the pink one set into a necklace with my daughter's birth stone in it too. It can be quite pricey doing that depending on wheather you have them set in Silver or Gold but if you go with that in mind you will be fine and have lots of fun! Helen

THis is a picture of the pearl that my DD picked. They said it was a rare color of some sirt. We had it made into a ring that she designed back home at a local jewlery store . She loves the ring and is always soooo proud of telling everyone how they banged on the "GOng" in Japan when they saw her pearl that she picked :)

My three daughters just did this last Thursday evening. Boo Hoo from me, too - here I am, home again when this time last week we were walking around Downtown Disney after watching the girls get made over at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique!

Anyways, my oldest picked a 6.5 mm pearl, one of the twins a pink 6.75 mm, and the other twin, an absolutely perfect 7.5 mm in white. DH and I think we may get the pearls set for the twins' First Holy Communion in April.

Loved this experience and the girls were thrilled, especially Chloe, who got the gong and a round of applause!
