Hi!

I'm so excited! In a couple of months I will get to make our first call to MS for our SSR January 2005 visit!

Just a couple of questions, I hope you don't mind :)

How is the weather in January? We have visited in October and it was a little crowded and a little warm still for us. We have visited in February and there were no crowds and good weather. I've read that February is cold, so did we just have good luck? Anyways, we'd like to try in Janury to make our points go farther.

Second, we would like to stay 4 nights at SSR and 4 nights at OKW, since they are so close to each other. Will they move our luggage for us? How much is the hassel with your existing food and clothing?

Last question (promise :p ) When I make our reservations in February, do I book all 8 nights and then at the 7 month window do I cancell the 4 nights and book the new 4 nights at OKW?

Thanks! It's all because of your great advice that I even get to be so excited. If it were'nt for you my husband would have nevered agreed to be DVC owners :wave2:

Weather can be warm or cold during the day in January, but it WILL be cold at night. You'll need to bring everything from coat, hat and gloves to swimsuits. For a stay of 8 nights, you'll probably have 4-5 days where it gets into the 70s, and 4-5 days where it doesn't.

The resorts will move your luggage and food from one resort to another. If room availability is important, I'd stay at SSR the first part of your stay and OKW the second part. OKW will still be much larger than SSR in Jan '05, meaning you've got a better chance of getting a room immediately upon checkin.

If you want to be safe, you could always book the entire stay at SSR and then change at 7 months. But I doubt it will be necessary. OKW should not be booked solid at 7 months for a January stay (after the 3rd, that is). I would especially be careful if you will have to borrow any points to make the SSR ressies. OKW point values are lower, so you'll be using less points by splitting your stay between OKW and SSR than if you were to stay the entire time at SSR. If you have to borrow points to make the SSR ressies at 11 months, the points will stay in that Use Year even after you change your reservation. And, I believe borrowed points cannot be banked.

Good luck.

January is a great time of year to go. My wife and I will be going in January 2005 for the entire month. We have been there in January before and as far as crowds, there are none. You can pretty much walk right on most attractions. The weather is not made for swimming. A couple of years ago they had some real nice weather in January but for the most part all you can hope for is the temp to rise above 70. The nights are cold and you see a big drop in temps over night as a general rule. As far as your reservation situation I would suggest you stay put at SSR for the whole trip or if you wish stay at OKW for the whole trip making a reservation 7 months out for January would not be a problem. I just don't like the idea of switching places half way. You would not be able to cancel you half stay outright but you would be able to switch from one place to another. Cancelling requires some rules that I am not that familar with because I never did it.

If your heart is set on moving after 4 days to OKW, I would suggest you to make 2 different reservations at your 11 months window at SSR and link them together, so when the 7 months window comes to book OKW you can just drop the second reservation if OKW is available.

We usually travel in January, and love that time of year. The warmest temps we have had were in the high 90's and lowest was freezing. Most of the time it is upper 60's to mid 70's, and that is about perfect for those of us from the frozen north! We usually wear our leather WDW jackets on the plane so we have them for a really cool night of illuminations or Fantasmic. We usually take a variety of clothes so we are both warm and cool. Layering works great for mornings and evenings so you can peal them off during the day. The lack of crowds is SO great!
