January -WDW - best time to buy flight?

Planning to go to Florida 2nd week in January 2012, leaving from Toronto. When do the airlines hsows their discounts on flights for January?

For last Jan 2011 I got my tickets May 2010, I fly out of Seattle, and Continental had a seat sale for $324 RT.
So start watching.

Make a habit of checking each day. We find that if you're flying Air Canada, you'll see cheaper prices about 6 months out, then they'll go up, then drop again when it gets closer to the travel date. Also, start following them on Twitter @ACwebsaver as they'll occasionally tweet out discount codes.

Subscribe to aircanada and westjet e-mail notifications and watch the prices via matrix.itasoftware.com (search engine for airfares). Subscribe also to airfarewatchdog.com

Set what price you are willing to pay .... (So, in your mind figure out if Toronto to Orland and back is worth say $400 per person with everything in)

Then hunt and hunt and hunt .... but when you see the fare that meets your dates and price, don't wait .... get it right away!

What I do ...
(1) figure out what days I need to fly ... I prefer a range of days, so I can have flexibility to get the "deal" flight
(2) I set my price in my mind
(3) Everyday I search for my deal (only takes 5 minutes ... once at am, once at lunch, once at end of the work day, and sometimes in the evening)
(4) Wait ....
(5) Wait ....
(6) When I see it ... I buy it. As fast a dog eats a dropped child's treat ...

Really, it's sad that it's come to this! (But I'm glad I'm not the only one who has a daily routine of stalking airfare! I'm lucky if I can check once a day though, twice is pushing it. )

Pretty much the way I do it, too. There never seems to be a "best" time but the last few times it's been quite early. We bought our flights for January on May 1. That fare has done nothing but go up since! Like $1000 more for four people at one point.

I'm having a stoke right now. Delta has really low fares from Seattle at the moment, we're talking $290 RT, but it also means 2 nights hotel too- still way che4aper then AC or WJ out of YVR. But......sometimes Continental has seat sales from YVR. What to do......... argh
I also have more points on Continental. sigh
