We are arriving on Thursday the 10th, so our ADR 180 day window opens a week from Saturday! Can't wait to book some delicious meals, especially at Le Cellier.

I was just looking at the same thing today. Not sure what my one big restaurant meal will be, but I know it will be Saturday and outside a park.

I wish Yachtsman were open during the marathon. There should be samples.

I recommend Boma. It has been my celebratory meal for all three of my January races. You feel much less guilty going back up to the buffet a couple of times for all the African goodness. Make sure to get the presspot if you are a coffee drinker. I think it is the best coffee on property including the Kona at the Poly.

The only ADR I plan on booking is Chef Mickey's for breakfast on the 14th. :) The rest is going to be CS, and maybe the Fantasmic DP but I need to figure out what night we're going to be at HS first. I have no idea what park we're doing on ANY day yet. :scratchin

Going to need to consult with traveling peeps and figure out what we want for Sunday celebration dinner!

For those of you who have done the marathon before - did you feel like eating a big celebratory dinner that night after running? I am figuring I'm either going to be starving and ready to inhale anything and everything, or that my stomach will be off after all of that exertion and not feel up to a big meal.

My appetite was fine (I had lunch and a beer as soon as I got back to my room)....my legs on the other hand! I really didn't want to go wandering around all that much.

:thumbsup2 Thanks Maura! Geez, I think if I drank a beer after the marathon I would pass out!
I am thinking about doing something special, like California Grill, to really celebrate.

Unfortunately, Cali Grill is supposed to close for renovation on January 6.

I think we (my DD, sister and I) are going to do Jiko.

Not me. I am rarely ravenous after a race. I spend the afternoon at Raglan Road drinking Guinness and enjoying the weather, and then head up the hill for tequila and tapas. With Drink Around the World on Monday, we save our big dinner for Tuesday.

We've done Artist Point at Wilderness Lodge the last two marathon weekends. We think the food is as good as Cali Grill, but it's not as crowded and just feels a little more special. I've been hungry, but there was a couple at the table next to us where the husband had run the marathon, and he left a very pricey steak basically untouched because he had no appetite. I think everyone reacts differently!

And we did schedule an EARLY dinner...

The evening of the marathon I was starving and would eat just about anything. After walking around and cooling down for about 90 minutes after finishing we went back to the room to shower and sleep. When we woke up all 3 of us were starving and ended up going to AKL about an hour early hoping we could get in to eat.

I saved the celebratory beer for Monday.

We generally head for Japan as a post race celebration. The climb up is kind of tough, but the climb down can be a treat. It was only after my 5th or so event at Disney that I found the elevator. Still take the stairs.

Going down the stairs after the marathon is worse for me than up. On Marathon Monday last year we did Germany for lunch and they sat us down by the stage. I never think anything of stairs so didn't think to ask to sit on the top row. Man, every trip back down those stairs was a marathon in itself.

The worst though had to be exiting the American Adventure and that ramp. I stopped at the top and waited for everyone else to go because I knew once I started down I was at the mercy of inertia and if someone was in the way we were going to both get hurt.

I'd like to go to either Kona or Japan, the reason being that those were the places where I remember seeing the shiny medals everyone was wearing and saying "ooh, I want one!!"

Is there any type of food that is best to eat after a marathon? Higher carb? Higher protein? Or just whatever the heck you want? :cool1:

Immediately afterwards, you should have some carbs and some protein and some fluids, which you can get from the post-race food area. For a celebration dinner, though, just go wild and eat whatever you want. You'll have earned it. ;)

I'm doing Jiko post marathon :).

I agree with Frank, down hurts way worse than up. I did Keys to the Kingdom after the marathon 2 years ago. That was rough.

I usually head to Animal Kingdom after the race so I can cheer on some folks there and hit a few rides. Then that afternoon its usually onto the usual haunts in Epcot (La Cava, Rose & Crown, etc)
