We are going to DL for the first time for my BD in January 2009. I've purchased 3 day parkhopper tickets but we arrive about 2pm on Wednesday.
Does the day start when you first use it no matter how much time you actually have in the park that day? If so and we wait to go until the next day, what kind of entertainment can we expect the first afternoon we are there outside of DL? (we are staying at the DLH).

Is DTD a great place to just wander and waste an afternoon?

Thanks! :)

WOOF!

Well, if you're going to be there on your actual birthday, then that day will be free for you, if that makes any difference to you.
But to answer your question, no matter what time it is, once you go into the park, you have used one of your days on your PH. Now assuming the park is open until 8 pm on that day, you'd still have 6 hours to enjoy yourselves and get a lot done.
I personally would not want to spend a whole day in DTD, but if you like to shop, I sure you might be able to fill your day. There is also a movie theater in DTD, and restaurants. The DLH pool is also pretty cool, if you feel like taking a dip.

There are things to see outside of the parks to occupy your hours, but probably not for that long. If you are just wanting to relax and stroll DTD is great. They usually have musicians playing music there, but I'm not sure if they will be performing on Wednesday.

Also, if you are bringing kids there are shops that will be fun to check out. The DLH also have a great koi pond that you should see. I personally didn't get to check it out, but I hear it is beautiful.

I personally would just go to the park once you are there. With checking in and everything, you probably won't get into the park until 2:45, but you will have PLENTY of time. The wait times are relatively low (we walked on to almost all of the rides) and can just stay until the park closes!

Unfortunately it wont be ON my bday :( I guess we'll just rest up and relax before we hit the big time the next day. We splurged on Conceriege so we'll hang out in the lounge or watch movies in the room.

Thanks for your help. I'm a WDW veteran but a DL virgin :D

i went to DL for the first time last year, having never been to either resort.

It was the funnest week of my life. I still dream about it, and thankfully I am returning in January....Sooooo excited!

You'll love it!

January rocks for DL!! It was pouring rain both times we went but man, it was so fun! LOL

I would probably just wait and do DTD and stay in your rooms the first day. You'll appreciate the rest. :)

What dates will you be there?

We're going to be there at the end of January. We arrive on a wednesday. We're getting three-day hoppers (originally we were only going to do two days but now you can get the three-day at the kids price so it's almost the same price as the two-day...woohoo!) We're hoping to get to the parks on Wednesday by 2 or 3pm.

Ooh good point. If the OP is going after January 6 they can partake in that deal too, and perhaps that would be incentive to just add a day to their tickets so they can go in on arrival day!

I'll check into it. DH isnt sure he wants to that day. :(

Sooo....another question:

Suggestions for eating. Best places for good, not uppity, food? :)

thanks! :)

We're arriving on the 21st and flying out on the 25th :) I'm going to see if I can convince him to go the first day as well! We already have the 3day tickets....would we be able to add 1 more day at the kids price?

The Disneyland website lists the 4,5, and 6 day hoppers at the kids prices for the first part of 2009.

What airport are you flying into?

We're flying into Orange County. Getting in at 136pm from PDX :)

I'm going to see if he's willing to let me start the fun early! :cool1:

We're also flying in there. We'll arrive close to 11am I think. We're going to get our rental car, have lunch, go to target (for bottled water and snacks,) check into the hotel and hopefully make it to the parks for a few hours.

Us too, we are flying from PDX going 1/24-1/31!!!

Where are all you January folks staying?

We'll be at the Anaheim Plaza.

We have BWPPI booked and DLH. If DLH comes out with the great AP rates we will most likely stay there. We have stayed there the last two years and really have loved it....so we will see!

You all (who are inclined to "convince" a spouse to add a day)..... crack me up. :)

It's just a few dollars more. If arriving in the afternoon you will REALLY WANT to go into the parks that first day. Besides....what's he going to do the first day.....shop??

Don't "convince" him/her.....just add the extra day. He/she will thank you when you're there.:thumbsup2
