January - Chance of UPGRADE??

DF and I have never been to WDW and will be there for our honeymoon 1/6-1/13. I was wondering if anyone knew if there is EVER a chance of an upgrade?? As in, we are at a moderate right now (POR) and would LOVE to be at a Deluxe but can't quite swing it..... Is there ANY chance of an upgrade (for a small cost or... FREE... )?? Has anyone ever had anything like this happen to them??

Even though it's January, the first two weeks at WDW next year will be extremely busy. The week you'll be there is the week leading up to Marathon weekend, so the Disney resorts will be pretty much filled up. You can still dream of a free upgrade of course; just don't hold your breath. That being said, POR is an absolutely gorgeous resort, and I think you'll like it just fine.

It is very very rare for Disney to upgrade from a mod to a deluxe. It would almost be a miracle. I am sure it has happened, but it is rare.

It is possible to get room upgrades at certain resorts, upgrades usually happen from one view to another, such as from a std. to a water view.

The only possible upgrades for POR that I am aware of would be either from a std view room to a king bed or water view room.

Anyway, good luck, you never know.

We almost always go in Jan. or FEb. and have never gotten any kind of an upgrade.

it's pretty common to get "complimentary" upgrades from say a garden view to a water view.

but getting "comped" from a moderate to a deluxe....just does not happen. There would have to a fire or something at your resort.

Ahhh well. I had to try!! I know we'll be THRILLED at POR - especially with it being our honeymoon AND first time to WDW PERIOD. Just dreaming providing we love (pretty sure that'll happen) Disney, I'm sure we'll be planning MANY visits, so maybe our day at a Deluxe will happen.

Wishful thinking is the way to go!!

Keep an eye on this link. Its the Codes and Rates board. As January nears (and possibly already), Disney releases discount codes. Sometimes the discount is enough for you to afford a deluxe resort at moderate prices.
