My son just got some time off in early January and we decided to try for a quick trip.I know this is late booking, but I was so surprised that there is NO availability for Jan 5, 6 & 7. Took three days at SSR for 8, 9, 10 and did two wait lists for the two views for a 1 BD. Not optimistic. Does anyone have experience with AP discount, Disney Visa discount or DVC discounts for hotel rooms?

That is the Marthon weekend. It has been booked for a long time. The likely hood of a waitlist filling is very very small I'm sad to say. I tried to get that corresponding Friday a few years ago and no villa of any size ever opened up as I searched for a few weeks.

There are no DVC discounts on hotel rooms, just on villas. I'm not certain about AP discounts but I'd be a little surprised if they were ever offered for that weekend - it's very popular.

Marathon weekend is not discounted, generally. It has its own rate category for cash bookings.

Picked a random Mod, here's the rack for bookings:

Jan 1 (New Year's): $307
Jan 2-4 (Value): $213/233
January 5-7 (Marathon): $253

Rack looks like that everywhere, which should tell you a lot about Marathon weekend!

Thank you for the info. Very helpful. We will adjust/shorten the trip & may add a one day stay at Universal on the front end.

I have two nights at AKV studio (8 & 9) and waitlisted an additional two nights (6 & 7) that same weekend. Been on the list for quite awhile with no results so far. Marathon race weekends book quickly.

Wow, I spoke too soon about staying at Universal. Things have really changed over there since we last stayed, right after the opening of Harry Potter. Luckily, I watched the DIS Podcast on Universal hotels & really learned a lot. Now I'm not sure about Universal, especially since we have WDW APs and a daily tkt for Universal would be $155 & I learned we would only get front of line if we stay at a higher end hotel.
I'm sure you guys are correct about my chances with the waitlist, especially for three nights. Going to call Disney Visa & see about their rates for hotel rooms.

I waitlisted for 1 night at SSR 1 bedroom standard view last week and it came thru in about 5 days which I was shocked! I'm still waitlisted for January 14 at SSR 1 bedroom standard. Hoping that one comes thru, I'd hate to move for 1 night, since we leave to return home on Jan 15

Why don't you try a non onsite hotel? We are trying out Wyndham Bonnet creek over Easter break to save points. We are paying the same it would cost for maintenance fees on a Dvc studio for a 2bd at bonnet creek!!

Or how about Swan/Dolphin? Since Starwood/Westin is now under Marriott, you can get SPG points and they can become Marriott points.
