January 8, 2011 - 7 Night Western Caribbean Sailing

Hello, all!
Welcome to Bill(Sir William) and Wife; David(Mr Potts) and Family; Donella(DD Paints) and Family; and any other newcomers, in case I missed you.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend and trying to stay cool.

Chris and I would love to be signed up for the FE Gift Exchange. We are in 6634. We still haven't decided what we are doing in Grand Cayman or Cozumel yet. Well, I know what I would like to do, but getting Chris to decide thats another thing. I am a compulsive overplanner, and Chris is just a wait and see kind of guy:-P

Hello, all!

Sounds like us but in reverse. I'm always begin researching and planning on what to do well in advance of any trip, while DW is more into the "wait and see" mode. All she has told me is that she wants to go to the spa at some point.

I'm also looking for suggestions. I think we're going to play tourist in Key West and Cozumel, but will enjoy the beach (and get in some snorkeling) at Grand Cayman and CC.

Just wondering if anyone could give me a list of people participating in the FE with ages. I don't need exact ages just adult, teen, child (although child ages would be helpful) for those of you not wishing to say how old you are.
Please :flower3:

We brought lots of booze on our wedding cruise! One of my guests had a whole little suite case filled with 2 cases of beer! No one ever blinked an eye when they exrayed out bags. I have taken drinks on the past 3 cruises. Easy Peasy.

Mr Potts I added you to the FE list!!!!

Cool Beans! When you brought it on, what type of bag did you bring it in? Some have suggested soft coolers, others said any type of carry on bag...so I didn't know if one was better than the other!..lol..

I've seen this discusson the the General Forum, but I thought I'd ask here to be more specific to our cruise.

While I dislike have to wear a tie at work (it's required), I do like to dress up for formal occasions. I was wondering just how formal everyone is planning to be on the formal and semi-formal nights on our cruise in January.

My DW wants me to wear a tux, but I'm thinking about wearing a kilt (which I love wearing!), suitably dressed up for formal night and dressed down for the semi-formal night.

Does anyone else look forward to dressing up?

I love dressing up for special occasions as well (like you I have a dress policy at work that includes suits/ties for men, dress suits for women..so no dress suits for me on this cruise..lol..).. this is our first cruise, and our honeymoon, so we are still in that planning stage of what type and how many clothes to bring!

My fiancé doesn't even own a suit (he owns his own roofing company so suits are never required..lol..).. and we were thinking of just nice slacks, shirt and possibly a tie for him, and just a nice flowly (not ball gown style) dress for me... does this sound like it would be ok for the formal and semi-formal nights? I'd hate to buy him a suit or rent a tux just for the cruise!

We are the same way - I plan for everything..he is totally the wait and see type..so as I'm talking to him about excursions, (or even categories for rooms/room reviews!)..it went in one ear and out the other as he figures we can just decide that day!..lol.. So i'm going through it all, narrowing down to what I want to do and then going to sit him down right before the booking window opens and make him decide..lol.. :thumbsup2

The only reason I own a tux is because I have to attend some of my wife's business social functions that require a tux. I figured mine was paid for about the third time I wore it (at the price of a rental). I also have a formal kilt outfit that I wear about twice a year. I like wearing it, too, but it takes up more suitcase space, so I'm still thinking on the matter on whether to bring it or my tux on the cruise.

For other nights, I plan to wear just a nice pair of khaki pants and an Aloha (Hawaiian) shirt.

As for the dressing up for formal/semi-formal nights, I love to get dressed up.

In Port: We are just planning to play tourist in Key West and, of couse, have a delicious frozen key lime pie treat. In Grand Cayman, we have done the Stingrays which I would love to do again in a heartbeat, but Chris is leaning toward Boatswain Beach. At CC, we are planning to go to Serenity Bay and after lunch rent bikes.

I think kilts are awesome and you have my vote for wearing it!

Since we are travelling from overseas and have a 4 week trip before the cruise I am thinking about doing one of those direct to the ship rentals of a suit for my husband. Has anyone had any experience?

I only just broached the idea of dressing up with him this weekend and thought he would revolt but he was quite accepting.

Aye, one vote for the kilt! That count's as least as much as 10 for the tux! :goodvibes

A co-worker said he rented a tux (but not on DCL) and it worked out well. It was in his room when he arrived and fit well. He thought it was worth it as he did not have to (a) buy one or (b) bring it with him.

I have to update the FE list I will post it soon!

My life has been havoc of late but am catching up today.

Lots of replies! My comments (simply because I have to be involved in everything):

Re the iron -- you can use the one in the laundry but they do not allow irons in the cabins. I remember reading that somewhere on here.

Re Tracy -- don't let her fool you, she IS tiny.

Welcome to Sir William, Mr Potts and ddpaints!

Re the kilt -- yes! yes! yes!

Re alcohol -- if you're arriving in Orlando day before, I HIGHLY recommend Knightly Spirits for buying alcohol and beer....they helped us last year and were incredibly wonderful (I emailed ahead and they had a selection for us to choose from -- of course, my husband took it all, twice as much as we needed!). They have 4 locations in O-town: www.knightlyspirits.net

Re Katie -- for gifts, you might want to suggest they buy Disney gift cards (they have them at Walgreens and places like that) in various denominations -- you can use them to offset your onboard charges and not have to worry about having more stuff to pack when you come home. We always suggest that to our family who want to give us stuff for Christmas (we don't need more stuff) as we can use them on the cruise. They are fantastic!

Re 7500WonderGirl -- Blonde Giraffe for frozen key lime on a stick -- INCREDIBLE!

Here's an update of all those on here who are on the cruise (sans lurkers -- show yourselves!!!). If I'm missing info or have got anything wrong, please let me know....truly, my life has been crazy of late:

LIST IS NOW ON THE FIRST PAGE OF THIS THREAD, MESSAGE #1.

Oh and not to make anyone jealous or anything, but I have my FE gifts already to go!!! :)

I'm pretty sure we will be in on the FE.
Just got the sewing machine fixed so after I get DD's duck costume sewn for Halloween I can start on a FE and her dresses/outfits for the cruise. :goodvibes
Our room # is 2006 Doubtful this will change because we requested a next door room of MIL and that would mean 2 room upgrades because we want her near.:thumbsup2
DH is kind of shy so don't expect him to join in on much of the fun but I'm sure the kids will enjoy all the decorations. Between the door magnets and FE they will be ecstatic. :jumping3: :Pinkbounc

On a side note I love MIL and have a great relationship with her. She does almost all our vacations with us. Good for her to get out and have fun. Good for us to have eh hem mommy daddy time:rolleyes1

In all my excitement earlier, I completely forgot that the reason I came to the boards today was to let everyone who is flying Southwest know that they opened reservations through March 11 just this morning.

We're already booked to come home. Now I think I've done everything for the trip EXCEPT figure out what FEs to do.

Of course you're all set, Lisa. Groan..........LOL!

Welcome to Sir William...

Re the kilt -- yes! yes! yes!

Sir William - Bill, DW

That's TWO votes for the KILT! And none against. I see a trend here. :yay:

DW = Eileen

Cabin 7134

RE: the FE. Put us down. I'll have to figure out what type of FE to make (as I'm the most excited about the cruise). However, we were discussing possible FE gifts over the weekend.

Bill

Aye, we're all kilt mad here. What's your tartan?

Hmmm, I recall that we bought our house from a Bill who had a collection of sporrans in the attic, all nicely displayed.

Any chance it's you?!

Sir William I say if you like the kilt and are comfortable wearing it GO FOR IT:banana: So count that as Three votes :thumbsup2
I'm someone who likes to not ever be notice so I tend to dress to blend. Call me chameleon and you would have it right. :rotfl:
As far as the FE if you don't want to make one I hear they sell them on e bay under Disney door organizers.

Check this for FEs; she truly makes the best I've ever seen and I've seen a lot:

http://myworld.ebay.com/gradysmommy/

The worst was the grocery store plastic bag that someone hung on their fish thingy outside the door........I understand cheap but I also like to play along.

No, it wasn't me, but I would enjoy looking at a collection of sporrans!

I have 7 kilts in various tartans and wear them about 2-3 times a month: Elliot (2), Gunn, MacDonald, Black Watch, Leatherneck (USMC), and Rob Roy (from the movie).
