January 8, 2006- 4 night Wonder- Anybody else coming with?

Thank you, Cruisin. To be honest, I didn't even realize that it was an upgrade because when I pulled up DCL, it still shows cat. 7, Navigator's Verandah as the type of room, but the room number is listed as 5142. I'm excited. We actually had the solid wall verandah on our last cruise, except we had a cat. 5 on deck 7. Thanks again, and I truly hope that everyone else gets good news!
Cruisin, I want to say that I had read somewhere that the sideways rooms were nice because of the way they are laid out. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you in hopes that you will like it!!

For some reason I was thinking that you got upgraded from a 12 to a 6 but I guess it is an upgrade just not as big of one as I thought.

I'm not quite so jealous anymore ;) :rotfl2:

I found a thread with pictures of the sideways rooms and they actually look very nice. I think that I might just enjoy that room. Time will tell. As long as I'm on the ship, I don't really caer so much. :smooth:

branv ~~ I hope they post your cabin number soon too. :goodvibes They are just prolonging your excitement for you :earboy2:

Hi Cruisin!

I had the same confusion when I saw my room number next to the same "GTY" status as I've had all along! I had a Cat 12 GTY, and my room # is 2544... when I looked it up it is a Cat 9 w/ an Oceanview! What a really nice surprise!!!!! I did book almost a year in advance, so maybe that helped.

In any case, upgrade or no, I am so excited to be going on my 1st Disney Cruise (1st ever cruise, too)!!! I can't wait!! I have the over-the-door hanger like people suggested, and I am slowly packing things into it... like a power strip for extra outlets, alarm clock, sunblock... maybe I'll find some door decoration?

Congratulations on your upgrade lacourre. I am sure that you will enjoy your room with a view ::yes::

Another Cat 12, upgraded. I hope the rest of you are just as lucky. :smooth:

Woo-hoo! Upgraded to Cat 9 as well! This is the room with the 2 small windows, but I couldn't be happier with the location! We are on Deck 1 right smack in the middle and close to the elevators. I really wanted to stay low to prevent sea sickness, so this is awesome!!!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

(course I'm still going to ask how much it will cost to upgrade to a balcony when we get to the port. Ok, so any new people who want to book, go away and leave them for us!! :rotfl: )

Cruisin', I also read that the sideways rooms are awesome.

Wooooh hooo ....I'm doing the free upgrade dance right now!!!!!!! :cool1:

We have been upgraded to a Cat 9, Deluxe Oceanview Room, Deck 2, towards the rear (aft?). Yeahhhhhhhhh !!!!!! I was also confused when I saw the room number and the gty cat 12. :earseek: But then I looked the room up and even called DCL to confirm. Life is good !!!!!!!

How come everyone else got upgraded to Cat 9's and I only got to Cat 11.

:sad1:

I'm the one who had all the emotional pain and suffering of being waitlisted by mistake

I'm feeling very sad right now.

Actually not really. I'd have loved to had a Cat 9, at least for my parents since it is their 50th anniversary cruise. But heck, what can ya do?

I guess a little something is better than nothing, but you'd think that they could've done a bit more?! Anyway, how much time do you really spend in the room? This is my 1st cruise so I don't know. I hope the location is good... ya know, not in a noisy section or towards the middle in case anyone is prone to seasickness.

Has anyone gotten seasick on these cruises?? Should I bring Dramamine?

(BTW, I just noticed that you have almost 10,000 posts!!!! WOW!! You should get a prize or something for that!!!)

My only guess is that if your ressies are linked they thought you'd put more importance on your rooms being close together, and they had nothing close together in a higher cat?

See Cruisin', that's what you get being nice by bringing along your parents. Jeez, what where you thinking ;) Seriously though, I'm sorry it wasn't what you were hoping for. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Don't forget - we've all read about people who've gotten further upgrades even closer to cruise day, some don't find out they've been upgraded again until they check in at the port, so there's still a chance!

I would say from what I've read is that plenty have, and plenty haven't :) Apparently the first night can be rough for some people b/c of the rockiness of crossing the Gulf Stream. I know that I'm not overly motion sick, and usually I'm okay on smaller boats, but I was a little nauseous once on a boat in the Gulf when it was rough, so I'm not taking my chances ;)

I read that you can get motion sick pills at the Medical center on the ship for free at times if you need it, but I'd rather prevent getting sick then feel sick and have to wait for it to kick in. So my philosophy is better safe then sorry. I plan on taking Bonine from my first day in the parks until the Sunday after our cruise is over (to mitigate the sea legs effect). I'm also going to take some Ginger Pills. I tried Bonine at home and it doesn't make me sleepy or anything (I can tell you that Allergy pills knock me on my a**, so no Dramamine for me ;) )

Just my half a cent opinion.

All that means is that I don't have a life :rotfl2:

branv......... I wasn't really hoping for any upgrade, so I'm not disappointed.

This is our 7th Disney Cruise though, you'd think they would reward loyalty better than that

Between all of my own Disney Cruises and all of the other people (can easily think of at least 7 other families that have cruised Disney directly because of my influence), I figure they should owe me a free cruise by now :teeth:

Sure people get seasick all of the time. We have not really experienced any major problems (as of yet). My husband is real prone to motion sickness, won't/can't do motion rides at Disney. He has not really had any problem on the cruise ships.

Yes, the first night, usually right about dinner time, it starts to get a bit rocky. Once you get over that gulf stream, it seems to settle down. I have pictures of the sea where it is just so smooth.

Has anyone tried those wrist bands for motion sickness? We bought them after our last cruise so we never really had the chance to try them. Guess I'll pack them just in case. We have friends that swear by them. Just wondering if anyone else has any comments about them?

I'm skeptical b/c most of the studies I've read (yes, I'm a researching nerd, I can't help it) have pointed out that statistically they don't appear to make much of a dent. However, that doesn't mean they don't provide a Placebo effect for some people...and of course, there are more things under heaven and earth, yadda yadda, so there's no saying that it doesn't honestly make a medical difference for some people that we just don't understand.

However, with the info I have on the things, I think it would skepticate (I know it's not a real word, ok? :teeth: ) myself right out of any efficacy. Definitely no Placebo effect for me.

The miiiind is a pooowerful thing. ;)

I myself worry that I'll hypocond-uh-riate (there I go again) myself right into thinking I'm motion sick :rotfl:

Yes, we have those too.

We have taken them on every cruise that we have gone on.

We have never used them yet, so I can't tell you if they work well or not ;)

They don't take up much space to pack and I always figure that I might as well bring them along.

No you won't because you will be having too much fun to even think about the ship moving :teeth:

We plan on taking some Bonine or Dramamine. We took some the last cruise too, because the DH was a little nervous about getting sick, not to mention it was our first cruise, so we really didn't know what to expect. He did take one right after we boarded just to be safe. He ended up being fine though and didn't have to take any for the rest of the trip. Funny thing is, when we cruised, the last night when we were going back into Port was the roughest for us, but we still did fine, but I know there were lots of others who were sick.

I am bringing dramimine for the kids, since I don't know how they will take the motion. My DH is very sensitive to the rocking motion and can turn green just looking at a ship. But his cure is alcohol and plenty of it. That way he can also blame his stumbling on the rough seas. Though I think after running a total of 39.3 miles between Sat. and Sun. he will be stumbling no matter what he does :rotfl2: He has the seabands, but never tried them.
