January 28, 2012-do you believe in MAGIC?

How formal and semi-formal do we have to dress? I've heard it can be anything from gowns to dresses to pantsuits to not dressing up at all and just wearing jeans. Is this true? How many people truly dress formally for formal night? I know my DH is not going to want to rent a tux (he barely wanted to rent one for our wedding) or bring his suit. Would Dockers and a dressy sweater be acceptable for both nights for him? As for me, I don't usually wear dresses, but I'm happy with black dress pants and a sparkly top. DD would wear similar. Would that be okay? I've seen some pictures of formal night and women were wearing evening gowns. While I'd love to wear one, DH would pitch a fit if I bought one for just one night. Thoughts anyone? Thanks.

I have never been on a DCL cruise before, so I could be wrong, but on other cruises that I've been on some dress pants with a nice top were ok for formal night. We are not doing formal evening gowns. I have a long summer dress with a little black jacket to cover my arms. My DD has a summer dress that I had made for her. That's what we're wearing on formal night. On semi-formal night, I think we will just wear black pants with a nice top. At the moment though, I would just go to formal night naked if we could leave right now. :scared1: :scared: Just kidding!

Well, at least you'd be wearing a birthday suit.:)

Thanks for the answer. My friend and travel agent told me not to worry about it and just go to formal night wearing whatever we'd be comfortable wearing. She's been on a lot of cruises. I trust her opinion, but I wanted a second one.

Just wanted to say hi to some of our cruisemates! This will be our first DCL cruise and I CANNOT WAIT! We will be traveling with our 3 year old son. Does anyone have any advice for the most age appropriate shore excursions in St. Maarten and St. Thomas? Also where is the link or where do I go to sign up for the FE? Thanks in advance!!!

Welcome! :) This will be our first cruise too, so I don't have any excursion advice. To sign up for the FE just send a PM to AngieEstaAqui with your email address. She will send you the link to add your name to the list.

Anyone wanting to join the FE, email me at angiebales@gmail.com, and I'll share the document with you in Googledocs. I was thinking of capping the FE group at one month out for the sake of preparation (so, say...Dec. 28). At that point, I'll send out a floor plan with all participants' rooms marked to make delivery a little easier. Right now, I think we have a manageable group size, but if it gets too big, we can talk about splitting. Anyone interested in a meetup on upon embarkation?

Also--Just wanted to let everyone know that the new costumes are in at the Bibbidibobbidiboutique and at the online store, and are currently 20% off, with free shipping! :cool1: I just got Cinderella and Belle, with tiaras and light up shoes to match for WAY less than I could get them at the Bibbidibobbidiboutique...which, by the way, I am considering for either the day before sailing or the day we get off. Anyone else considering this?

Okay, you lost me. What on earth is a Bibbidibobbidiboutique? Do you plan on dressing up, or are these costumes for your children? Don't laugh, I really am serious.

One month out is a good idea. I am making my gifts and I know if we had people join at the last minute I would not have time to make extras.

BBB is for kids. It is a "salon" at WDW that does hair and make up for little girls and they dress up like the princesses.

I have some news!!!
My DFH and I decided instead of getting married in Texas we are going to get married on cruise! We are getting married on St Thomas!
I am so excited and happy right now!

Oh, okay. Thanks. That explains that. That did make me wonder, though, have you ever seen the adults dress up in costumes (besides the CMs being paid for doing it, of course)?

At WDW adults are not allowed to dress in costume except for the halloween parties. I don't know the rules on DCL. I know you can on pirate night of course.

Two questions:

First, why aren't adults allowed to dress up? Is this because it would confuse the children as to whom the "real" characters are and who aren't, or because it would just be too creepy?

Second, how do quote multiple messages in a reply?

Thanks.

Just an idea instead of the bibbitibobbiti boutique....if you are trying to save some money and since you are buying the dresses anyhow, the harmony barber shop on mainstreet at MK will put your little girl's hair up, put colored gel in, and sprinkle pixie dust for $5. (It may have gone up to $8, I can't remember how much it was in April). We have made a habit of getting our son's haircut there every time we come (his 1st haircut was there too) and it is only $14 and then the extra for the gel. I have been to WDW 14 times and never knew about the barber shop until last year when a Disney friend told me. It makes the trip special and best of all it is CHEAP, which isn't always the case with Disney :)

Who are you guys using for your wedding? We were thinking of renewing our vowels on either St. Maarten or St. Thomas. It is just DH and our son so it won't be anything extravagant, just something small. Congrats by the way! I am sure the photos will be stunning with that backdrop!!!

Forgot to mention that the gel and pixie dust lasts two days if she decides to not have it washed out. My son kept his in for two days. It was neat though because many little boys don't have hair gel in so it made for some extra special memories with the characters. They would play with his hair and even at MK the talking trash can rolled over and started talking to my DS and DH (I talked him into getting it done too one time). :thumbsup2
