January 2022 Car Rental Thread

Booked a standard SUV, p/u from Budget on West Landstreet Road on Jan. 21, d/o at MCO on Feb. 3 through Costco for $763.84. It's a start, at least. Better than all the prices in the $900s that I was finding.

Currently have a mid size booked for 1/1 through 1/8 for $657.22 through Budget via
Priceline. 😟 Hoping for better.

ETA: just checked again and got a larger (Standard) car for $594 same week. Also through Budget.
I just checked again and Dollar had a deal that saved me $30 dollars. Down to $562 with a full size car. At least we can get a couple extra Mickey bars, lol.

Our Alamo rate for January just went down $16 - every little bit helps. Be sure to try changing pick up and drop off times by 30 minutes on each end as rates do vary.

We always buy our park tickets from UCT and have also used them in the past for good car rental rates. I was super excited last week to get a 7 day minivan rental for $390 from Avis through UCT 1/12-1/19/22. Crossing my fingers that there are little to no issues when it is time to pick up the rental. I've never rented through Avis, so any advice is appreciated! :)

Pre-pandemic I used Enterprise for work and preferred using them at MCO as well. Still keeping an eye on rates...

Hopping on board to watch rental prices with you all. We just booked for January 8th to 15th. Currently at $586 for a midsized pick up with a free extra driver, Alamo through Costco.

Our September rental started at $600+ and ended up going down to $250 by the time we traveled. Fingers crossed for the same end result this time.
It has been quite some time since I've actively been on Disboards. I always enjoyed reading Gina-Gina-Bo-Bina's trip reports. It felt like "home" when I saw your post on this thread! Good to see you here!! :)

Awww, thanks! That made my day!

While my current reservations are still lower, I’m at least seeing rates headed down again. We also have a trip to Seattle coming up in early November and recently, the rate dropped by over $150 since I first booked. It pays to check several times during the day as the rate changed twice.

Hopping in....Our dates are 1/7-12. Best so far is Alamo through Costco at $495. I did get a rate of $252 with Budget through UCT. Anyone ever rent through them? Is there a way to skip the counter if using UCT??

I just booked a midsize Budget, through Autoslash using AARP for $469 for five days, 1/26-30. I'll see where it goes in the next couple months. I'm only about 40% that this trip is happening. I can't afford to spend $500 for a rental car to make $550 for the weekend.

We’re about 2 weeks out from our Seattle trip and we now have a standard car rental for $302 during our 5 day trip. While it’s only down $14 from my last reservation, it’s down $175 from my first reservation. I’m hoping this trend continues for our January trip and we see drops mid-November and December in Orlando. Rates in the low $400’s would make me happy and rates in the $300’s would make me happier.

Having such a hard time finding a decent SUV rental price! Going from Disney to Miami for 4 days in January. Unfortunately one way prices are even worse. UGH

I was able to drop my compact SUV price to $575 through Alamo via Costco. Still too high. You can get a rental through anot her website, where I was able to book a Budget standard car for $282, including tax and fees. You do have to buy a ticket to get the rate. I put in an AMC drink ticket for $5.86, which qualified for the reduced rate. My only hesitation is you have to pay now to get the rate, even though you can cancel.

On second thought, that rate was just too good to pass up. I booked it, so my total rental cost is $288. Thanks froggie.

Edit to add: I was given a Budget Confirmation # for my reservation, so I’ll be able to check in online and skip the counter hopefully.

The Alamo compact SUV rate has now dropped to $558 through Costco. That’s a $1 cheaper than a midsize car. While I already have a reservation locked in, I still like to know where pricing is headed.

Nineteen-day rental starting January 5th just dropped $75 for a full size car from Alamo/Costco. Still high at nearly $1200, but down more than $240 since my initial booking. This is the third booking for this trip. Still more than two months to go, so I’m hoping for a sub-$1K rate by the time of this long trip/rental.

My rental for January 8th to 15th has dropped to $556. Started at just under $600, and has slowly inched down a few times now. Alamo through Costco.

The Undercover Tourist deal is pretty amazing! Booked Jan. 21-Feb. 3 in an intermediate SUV (Mazda CX-5) through Budget for $625 all-in. This finally beats my Costco SUV+airport pickup reservation ($764).

ETA: Oops, didn't know the site couldn't be named.

Looks like rates have dropped some. I can now get an intermediate car through Costco for $505 from budget for 8 days. My lowest rate before was $525 for an electric car, while most others were in the $600’s. My rate from another site where you have to buy a ticket to get it, is still cheaper at $282, $288 if you include the ticket I bought.

I was able to rebook our minivan for January 5-12. It was over $700 before and now dropped to $521 through Costco

Rates are still heading in the right direction. An intermediate car through Costco is now $492 for my 8 day trip, the first time I’ve seen a sub $500 price there.

I just locked in a mid size SUV through Avis for 1/22 - 1/29 for $524 including the taxes and fees and extras. This is at the Port Canaveral location. This is my plan B as we are booked for a 7 night cruise on the Fantasy but in case we are denied boarding due to a positive Covid test, I want a backup plan in place so we aren't stuck at the port. I will just have to remember to cancel it once we are on the ship.

I will be stalking this thread and keeping an eye on the prices
