January 2014 discount watch!!

Personally I think Jan and Feb are the best months to go to WDW. The weather is nice, but not too hot, and the crowds aren't that bad. Once DD starts school we may not be able to go then, but for the next few years I am hoping for a yearly Jan or Feb trip.

Dh, ds8 and I will be going January 23 - 29 :)
This will be our second January trip- January 2013 trip we had perfect weather and the crowds were definitely manageable! We are hoping for the same in 2014.

Almost same dates as us :). 23-30 here

If you're looking for room rates for January, you can find some of them by putting in travel dates that start in December and pricing out a trip. Click on "check for availability" and then click "view nightly rate." You can't see the seasonal pricing yet but you can see the night by night, and it should give an idea of what the seasons will be. I think...

So, for example, I put in a trip from Dec 31 - Jan 30 (crazy) and it showed me every single night's rate for All Star Sports. Unfortunately I couldn't get even a few nights to show at Pop or AoA but you may have different luck.

Hope this helps!

Awesome..It just worked for almost all my days.

I went back to look at my notes, and this is what I THINK the seasons are for January. Anyone know if these can change or if they're pretty much set?

Value Season
Jan 2
Jan 5-8
Jan 12-16
Jan 20-23
Jan 26-30

Marathon Jan 9-11

Weekend (Value?)
Jan 3-4
Jan 17-19
Jan 24-25

New Year Day Jan 1 (duh)

This was taken from dates on the All Star Sports calendar.

We go just about every January. First there is the Marathon..so no free dining usually.

Then comes Martin Luther King Weekend (MLK day-Jan 20th 2014)so they know its going to be busy..there for no free dining.

Looking at the January 2014 Calendar.. if going by what has historically been offered around the time that we go..Free dining... if available would start again on Saturday the 25th.

It usually starts the weekend after my birthday..which is Jan 19th.

There was no free dining this past January.
We are hoping it will come back for Jan '14

Not true, we had free dining (via a pin) this past January and were there MLK weekend and that week. We are returning that week again hopefully in 2014. Waiting on pricing.

We are looking at the first week in February (2-11).

Is there a way to find out if there are any events around that time? We should be able to book soon, right? But if a special comes out then (free dining??) can we somehow take advantage of that?

Yes, if you book now and a deal comes out later all you have to do is call and Disney will either 1) reduce your balance, if you have not paid in full or 2) refund you the difference if you have paid in full already. As long as you meet the restrictions of the discount. For instance if free dining requires 3 day tickets then you would need to meet those requirements. As well as being in a resort that it is offered, for example LM rooms at AoA have been excluded recently. Just for an example.

As for booking soon, you could call today and book a room only reservation. You would simply pay 1 nights cost and call and switch to a package when they come out. Since 2014 package prices aren't out you can't book those just yet. Rumor has it they are coming very soon.

We went during that week in February in 2013 and they didn't offer free dining to the GP. (I'm sorry people who get pin codes, but that really doesn't count.)

Anyway, they did offer a discount in early October for select dates in Jan and Feb. It was either a room only discount or the stay, play and dine plan, which was essentially paying children's prices for the dining plan and tickets.

There hasn't been any free dining for the general public anytime in 2013 except for the current Sept discounts.

- Sorry - people who get a pin code - you don't count! We don't want to know if you got a pin code - because most of us don't get one, and we are all jealous. ;)

We are going January 2 - January 6th. I am DYING to book this trip! We are taking our daughter and it will be her first time and she is SOOOOOO excited, and so am I. Honestly, I don't know who is more excited. I have only been once, on my honeymoon 13 years ago. I wish those package rates would come out already! I have been checking the website pretty much daily for the past two weeks.

General public offers we are speaking about not "pins"..

Well when you say because it is MLK weekend there is no free dining it makes it sound like there is no possibility at all. Just giving someone a little hope and saying it isn't impossible to maybe get something. I am sorry I didn't know the rules.

Pins are far and few between. I have been going to Disney yearly for YEARS, staying onsite and we've never once received a pin.

For the general public no free dining usually.
For the lucky pin holders  it may indeed be available.

my daughter used my email address....she has paid for nada.....and SHE gets the pin at my email address....arrrghh. I have never gotten one for me.

I have gotten them in the past when we're not going lol! This year, couldn't get one to save my life Since we are going. It's kind of like the lottery I think, and I'm unlucky.

What exactly is the secret to getting one of these coveted pin codes, anyway?

I mean, there has to be some algorithm that Disney uses, to determine who gets them and who doesn't.

There are people who have gotten them literally EVERY year, for YEARS. And then other people, who have NEVER gotten them.

I have registered emails and addresses for myself, my wife, my mom, my sister, my brother, with Disney. None of them have gotten a Pin.

But, we have all gone under GP offers the last couple years, hell we even bought APs this trip. So.... I am guessing we aren't hitting the algorithm calculations properly.
