Hello all. I am new to this site and apologize if I am posting in the right area. I started running this summer and this past weekend I finished my first race, a half marathon. My wife and I took our twin girls to Disney World for the first time in September for their second birthday and had a great time. Now I am considering running the Disney Marathon in January of 2013 as my first marathon and also making it a family vacation. I have looked on the Disney website and it is too early to find out prices for hotels on site so I was wondering if anyone here would have any insight as to the cost of a week stay during the time the marathon is run. I would prefer one of the moderate resorts because although we had a great time in Disney we were not happy with the resort we stayed at. I appreciate any info those more experienced with the Disney marathon may have and again I apologize if this post is located in the wrong place.

Thanks

Just want to say welcome and great going on the half. I can't help with the resort prices because DW and I stay at FW in our motorhome for Marathon Weekend. I'm sure others will fill you in.

Welcome!

If you are just getting a rough estimate for the cost of lodging for next year, pick similar dates in 2012 and add 8%. Chances are the rates will be lower, but it will give you a ball park figure.
Or renting DVC points is also an option.

Welcome.

If you can swing it definately do it. There is no race like a disney race and with a ton of WISHer's to cheer you on as you do your first marathon what could be better.

Also a nice thing about the 2013 marathon it will be the anniversary of the Mickey (Marathon) so special bling;)

Hope you can make it.

Kim

Welcome.

2013 is totally doable... Even the 2012 Half is doable, assuming you can swing the budget. Coming in 12 will will put you in line for the 15th Anniversary Donald. But more importantly, you can really get a feel the excitement and energy associated with the weekend. There is nothing like 40000+ runners of all sizes, shapes and capabilities buzzing through the resorts. Having a Disney half under your belt will give you some visualization cues for when the long miles get long next fall. Then sticking around in the morning the following day, you can spectate and see the faces of the marathoners. You will definitely start to understand the how possible running a marathon really is.

Regardless.... As mentioned above plan on a 4-8% adder to costs for 13 from January's rack rates. Even better, make a dummy reservation with tickets and meal plan included on line. That will ball park the total non-marathon coast for your stay in 2013. you may need to pick the third weekend in January 2012 as your test weekend since marathon weekend may be sold out and the following weekend is MLK weekend.

You can expect some discounting as we roll into fall 2012 so keep watching for those to come out.

Good luck and hope to see you soon
