January 2013 Discounts

day 38 of discount watch... while food rations are ample and the water supply is stable, moral is reaching a low. hope seems to be waning among the troops. hours of combing the web for news has lead to a severe drop in coffee supplies and overstock of dirty laundry. i've made note to restock the coffee supply early. my refresh button finger is weary and i long for the sweet relief of a heavy room discount or better yet, free dining. only the disney bean counters will know when this will end.:sail:

Ha! Love it :rotfl2:

Well, I have to make a decision! We leave tomorrow for 8 days and I have to decide to either get annual passes for me and kids or a 8 day pass. We are going again in Jan/Feb and it would save me about $ 400 to get annual passes (and guarentee us a trip before the end of the passes) BUT if they offer FD we need to have a at least 2 day of tickets each making us LOOSE $ 500. So it's either get tickets or get the passes!!! I was waiting to hear about FD but now the time is here. What do you all think?

We are in a similar boat. We went ahead and got passes. If FD comes out, we can book the package with the two day tickets. When we get there, we have them take the "tickets" off our KTTW cards. We put the tickets away safely- do not use them. They can be used anytime, on a future trip. THen we use AP's for this trip.

I suggest you get AP's. FD may never come out for your dates. If it does, then as long as you pull the "tickets" off the package and don't use the extra tickets, you can always keep them for another trip. Once you use the tickets, the second day must be used within 2 weeks, so make sure they are stored safely. REmove them from KTTW card before you go into a park so you don't accidently put them through the machine.

I say get the passes, if free dining comes out you can save the 2 day passes for another trip or yo ucan opt out of free dining in favor of a room only discount which usually comes out sometime after free dining is released.

Here's a question for January referring the ideas you all gave me. If I get the 2 day tickets and then keep them to use my annual pass, can someone else in my party get the 2 day ticket and then use MY two day to have four days out of it? Are tickets good for whenever?

Yup, you could use them that way. (at least I have)

Thanks! It IS a pickle. I can't decide. With my luck they will annouce FD on saturday (my first day at the park this trip) after I buy the APs! It's a crapsoot either way it seems. Of course, if we get APs we will go again next fall but they usually offer FD THEN too! I guess I could hold the 2 days from each trip for the kids and at some point they would have 2 2 day passes and my husband could upgrade to a 6 day and use my 2 day. I'm confusing myself. :hyper:

My boyfriend and I are taking our first trip to Disney together (he went once when he was younger and I've been a couple times but never on a trip I planned myself.) Our trip is January 7-14th, and we are going to celebrate my 26th birthday. We are staying in at the Port Orleans French Quarter in a King room I believe it's called? We have a 6 day park hopper pass and we have the dining plan that allows us one sit down meal, one quick meal, and one snack daily.

So I, like everyone else here, am waiting for Discounts to be released. Unfortunately, I don't know how to subscribe to this thread so I can continue following up with all you lovely folks  I mean, I know I can just sort through the boards and find this thread, but is there an easier way?

Also, my boyfriend booked the reservations so he gets all the emails and I'm sure he isn't looking at them carefully- could I be missing important info this way? Should I have him forward me all Disney emails or is it not necessary?

Thanks in advance for your help and I wish you all crazy large discounts! princess:

By posting on this thread you are subscribing to it. I am such a control freak that I'd want all the Disney emails forwarded to me!!! But of course since I have to be in charge I would have booked it myself!!! :rotfl2:

When I do that it says that I'm not subscribed to anything. Maybe it hasn't registered yet because I just started posting here? But I've posted other places and they weren't there either :confused3

I'm actually a huge control freak too lol This was supposed to be a surprise trip but I convinced him to tell me by telling him that I'm a picky butthead and if I wasn't given the appropriate amount of time to pack/prepare for where he was taking me that I would have an anxiety attack :rotfl:

It all worked out though because I've been getting our ADRs, hunting for discounts, and trolling these boards like a crazy person to make our trip as smooth as possible, which are things that neither of us even knew we had to do until I got involved and started poking around on the internet.

And just FYI, I am totally open to any tips that you lovely veterans have for newbies- not just about discounts, but about any old thing you think I should know! ::yes::

Under User CP, go to Edit Options.
THen go to Messaging and Notification.
THen go to Default THread subscription mode.

THere is a white box there that will let you choose how often to be notified that a thread you subbed to is posted on. Make sure that the right option is chosen. "Do not subscribe" is a choice- make sure that is not your setting. Choose instant notification by email.

REmember to "save changes" all the way at the bottom of page.

I think that's right.... but I defer to the experts.....
:thumbsup2

I did what you said, so let's see what happens now...

For those who like to lurk in the shadows, you can click on "Thread Tools" on top of list of posts on each page and click subscribe too. Since I am one the lurkers, might as well tell you heading to Disney Jan 6-10th to stay at AoA, LM section. Also eagerly awaiting discounts but scurred that LM standard rooms won't have any.

I think so too. I just got a mailing advertising their end-of-2012 deals, I can't imagine getting another one with new offers for a few weeks at least.

I've got a pile of 2012 discount emails and postcards from Disney it seems.

Been crossing my fingers for a room-only discount for January value season dates. Should I just book a room somewhere now and hope to dump it/adjust it if discounts come out? We have a very limited window in which we can travel so I'm afraid we won't get a resort we want - am I just being hyper here?

This is what I did. DH had his heart set on the Poly for our anniversary trip, and we also have no flexibility on dates, so I booked it in the hopes that some sort of discount will come out. It's a tough choice, but if you are going to go either way and want to make sure you stay in a particular resort, I'd book it.
