I am so bummed! We are finally going to try Universal and I have air booked for MLK weekend 2009. I have been calling weekly since March to reserve the HRH. Rates were finally out on Friday and the HRH is sold out for that weekend! The reservation lady said they probably have a convention booked. I booked the RPH, but am not very happy about it. Please sell me on the RPH! I have stayed at the Polynesian at WDW and was looking for a different atmosphere that my 13 year old DD would like.

Thanks!

Their online reservation system is showing rooms available for arrival on all days of January, but when you try to book it it is all showing unavailable. Maybe they are not out for booking yet. I would call back and get another rep. and see what they say.

I would bet that things are not available for booking yet, but the rep you had just misunderstood the message she was getting.

But then again, if the other hotel is open for booking you could be out of luck. Sorry, but maybe keep trying, there are always cancellations.

In 2006 & 2007 they did not open the system for booking reservations for the following year until July or August. Give it a few months and they will open up.

I think the person you talked to didn't know what was up. I'm pretty sure they're not up yet either.

I was unsure of her information, too, but have since called back two more times and have been given the same information. They said they sell their room nights in blocks. I could get three or six nights over MLK weekend, but the four and five night blocks were soldout. I even pursued it to book six and then call back and cancel two of them, but they said the system would not allow that.

They are definitely up for selling January 2009, I have a reservation at the RPH that was confirmed and emailed to me and can acccess it on the website and I was also offered PBH.

On the happy side, I have since researched the RPH and it looks great! DD was just set on the HRH. Hoepfully, this far out something should open up.

We stayed at the HRH this time last year after previously having stayed at the Portofino when it opened & which we loved!
Thought we'd try the HR as our daughters were 15 & 12 and we fancied a change of scene.
Although it was good there were some down sides eg. almost impoosible to get a lounger poolside as people just seem to stay there all day, we had to take a smoking room as no non smoking rooms available when we checked in & a really long wait otherwise...the room was so smelly and stayed that way for several days. We were also quite disappointed at the quality of furnishings in the room too as quite tatty plus we often returned to find that housekeeping hadn't been in either. We dis mention all the above in feedback when we left & received a very nice apology from the HR manager offering us discounts on another stay but as we live in the UK we couldn't take this up.
RP looks great so I think you'll enjoy it.
Hope this helps Trudi :thumbsup2

i ran into this on the 1st weekend of Dec. last year too, only 2 night stays were being accepted @ HRH, Portofino & RPR would accept a Saturday only

After reading this thread I called and booked a suite at HRH for January 2009.
