January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part V

No, I think I have more to watch for now, actually.

Soleil is right, it is VERY juicy. :stir:

Hmm. . . Should I read it??? :yay:

I decided this very morning that I'm having a HUGE garage sale in the spring and all of that money will be put on our Disney Fund! My goal is that the profits will cover our airfare. :cheer2:

Wow you must have a lot of stuff to sell!! :rotfl:

I'm glad I read it. I was worried it would spoil it for me, and in a way it did (he tells you the outcome). But there's just a lot TO the outcome. That's the best way I can describe it, I guess. I don't know what to tell you! I don't want you to be mad at me if you regret reading it! :rotfl2:

Yep, I have a ton of stuff to sell, and the only way I'll get excited about a garage sale is to have the money go to Disney. :thumbsup2 Garage sales around here tend to do well, especially the earlier you have them in the year.

Oh I just don't know what to do!!! :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

I WANT TO KNOW!!! But I don't want to ruin it. I better just wait. . .

Where are you going?

You Bachelor fanatics crack me up! :rotfl: I don't watch the show but now I'm curious about what I'm missing! I'm following Top Chef right now...not as dramatic and it makes me hungry all the time. Perhaps I should switch to the Bachelor. popcorn::

Wendy where ya headed?:confused3 You're not leaving us are you!!!!!!:scared1:

Yeah! What she said!!

We have no trips planned, at the moment. Hoping to go back with my friend this fall, but we'll see. She's making a real effort to pay off her debt and I am NOT going to push her into a trip/more debt, you know?

It looks like we'll be doing a 2+ week trip to Europe next year, so that'll be the bulk of our vacation and money. Luckily my TA for Disney is going to be my TA for that - huzzah!

I'm with Soliel on the detoxing thing - can't go for awhile, don't want to obsess over it too much.

Next time DH and I do go, however, we are ABSOLUTELY staying at an Epcot resort. I really like the Contemporary but there were so many perks to the Epcot ones that, well, we agreed that was a better fit.

Mostly I think we were sick of buses by the end of our trip :lmao:

Yeah, where are you going???

I was so busy yesterday I was just saying bye for the day.... crazy ladies... I was trying to update my PTR... get some work done... and keep the driveway clear... we are getting pelted with snow... thanks for your concern though... you are all so sweet....

I love having yard sales... we normally make $300-$400 ..... it is amazing what some people will buy... plus I make sure I mark everything CHEAP... I don't want it coming back in the house!!!

Okay so I just got off the phone with SW. They will not refund my $360 credit of course. He says that once they expire in August I can call customer relations (and he gave me a different # :confused3 ) and they will extend the credit for another year. . . Not sure if that is right or not. Guess I will have to call "customer relations".

He also said that they are transferable and I can book travel for anyone else with those credits.

Wow, I'd sure look into that! How awesome would it be if you could keep those credits for another year? That would almost mostly cover your next trip!

That will be great if that is true!! $360 towards the next trip would be awesome!! :cool1: I'm just not sure that is true. I've never heard that before. :confused3 I will have to call.

 Now you all have me curious about the Bachelor - and I don't even watch it!

I have to have a garage sale in the spring too. I have had one or shared in one with neighbors the past couple years and made some money. Now I have a reason - more WDW!!

We've been considering a split stay (as of last night) and also renting DVC points. Has anyone done one of these options?
I think I understand it that if you are on DVC, you do not get a package, which means no dining plan, is that correct? I can live without DDP, but then I also buy my tickets separately too right? I have to get over to the DVC board and check it out.
If you do a split stay, would Disney transfer your luggage (say if I have no vehicle)?
TIA.

Meghan - I'm going to check out your TR! Yay!

Well I got my rejection letter from SW yesterday in the mail! No refund!! :sad2:

Guess I'll have to try to sell them. . . . . Anyone flying by August??? :rotfl:

Sorry you didn't get your refund  When I called they said they could extend it for a year and I think the fee for that was $50 or something, which for my parents is silly because their credit is only $98 to begin with AND they don't plan on flying next year either.
Just wanted to let all my Snowbird buddies know that I FINALLY started my TR!!!!!

PHEW!!!! You had us worried! :woohoo:

After hearing all your secret fund stories I think I'll start one of my own! A little skimming off the top and before I know I'll have enough for airfare or a deposit! :rolleyes1 dh will never know! :stir:

We rented points for our trip.

You're correct, you don't get a package, but you CAN get the dining plan. The person you rent from makes all the ressies, so you'd need to tell them that you want the dining plan. You can also use Magical Express...same thing, the owner has to make your ressie. You just have to buy your tickets seperately (I got mine from UnderCover Tourist, but you can get them anywhere.)

I was very happy with my renting points experience for the most part. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. :goodvibes

Thanks Trixie! I'm sure I will come up with more questions in the future! I'm going to do more research!

I was wondering about all of this as well! I'd love to buy into the DVC someday (we did just buy our 1st house this past June) but I was looking at the resale site this morning. I'm really not interested in having my home property at AKV or BLT. Like I've said before, I like the Epcot resorts (even though I've never stayed at one), so I'd love to buy at Boardwalk or BC/YC. I know someone who is a DVC member, so maybe we could rent from them sometime. I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Well, it's been a weird day here! My oldest son feels bad-- I think it's just sinus stuff, so he didn't do any school. He says he would rather do his math (he has a test) tomorrow. It's supposed to rain all day, so that's fine with me!

My middle one did some school, but not a ton.DD didn't do any. Reason: I just had one of those days! I am not sick--- I just felt like hangin out in sleep clothes all day and letting them lay around as well! We read, watched some tv and now the boys are both taking a nap. 9yo has baseball at 4:30, so I am gonna have to get it in gear pretty quick!
I was looking at the villa Meghan was in on her trip report. Has anyone ever stayed in the villas at the BC? I am curious. The space looks awesome! We really tried to see how much time we actually spent in the room----except for the end of the trip when it rained and the day Mike was sick, we weren't there much at all. Some days we came back to rest before dinner and get a light jacket- but we didn't have to do the 2:00 nap thing! Just curious!

Shawna.... hope your son feels better soon....

another busy day in paradise... what... no paradise here... just SNOW.. and lots of it....

thanks for stopping by the PTR Meghan!!!!

If you don't mind answering, about how much does it cost for a week? Where did you stay and what kind of room? Sorry for all the questions!!

I'm really wishing we would've taken the time to talk to DVC this last trip. I guess I don't really understand how people pick their home resort, if you can stay at any of them. Wouldn't you just pick a cheaper on as far as the dues go? And I've heard others say they wouldn't want AKV...What are the negatives?

We were thinking of talking to a DVC rep while we were there, but we just didn't have time. I'm constantly getting things from them in the mail and emails.
