January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part V

I thought for sure school would have been cancelled today. It's -11 with the windchill today. They've talked to some superintendents on our local news lately and they've said it has to hit -25 for them to close schools. What?! That's nuts. I drove my DD to school yesterday and today. There was NO way we were waiting at the bus stop. I was outside for less than 2 minutes to take her inside the school and my whole body was frozen!

Yeah, I was all set to drive them today and go do all my errands! Talk about throwing a wrench in my plans. I didn't have daycare scheduled for yesterday or today (I normally don't work Fridays), so I'm a day behind on work and now they get to join me on my home stuff too. The weather people say it should get above zero today, but I can't imagine it will jump 22 degrees any time soon. It's gone up to -20 so far! I'm waiting as long as I can before I layer up and go out!

I believe it's about the same here (-25 to close school), crazy isn’t it? There were parts of the area today that were -23 before the windchill. Our daughter got off to Kindergarten this morning when it was a warm and fuzzy -12. We had her bundled up so tightly she could barley move.:)

Thanks for the info. Just curious. I've been checking accuweather.com and weather.com.

It's funny how it's different from site to site. I think it's like any local weather - we would use Philadelphia as the main city, but in reality we are always 3-5 degrees colder, and have more snow, etc. If I put in Orlando, Kissimmee or Lake Buena Vista, I get at least 5 degrees difference in some days. That's big when you're talking 69 (sound chilly) vs 74 degrees (sounds nice and warm).

I've decided pants and shorts. After Jan. 25th on accuweather, it looks nice and warm!

Hey Snowbirds :wave2:

There are so many WDW vets on this thread that I thought I'd ask all of you my question before I started a new thread to find the answer. I've searched and still no luck. We will be doing HDDR for the first time next week, so I'm unsure of how it works. My question is, are there seperate tickets that I need to pick up from the concierge desk when we arrive? or does HDDR work the same way all adr's work, do we just show up 15 mins early and give them our name? I have our confirmation # and of course we paid for it when it was booked. TIA I appreciate any help :goodvibes

Hey all, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for all of the great information and help with the planning of my trip from Jan 8th-Jan 12th (with only two days in the disney parks). My girlfriend and I were able to get to all four disney parks in only two days, and we did everything on our "must do" list and more. It was by far the best trip we've ever had! So, thanks again for all of the helpful information regarding restaurant ressies, touring plans, extra magic hours, etc. It was all useful and appreciated, JON :thumbsup2

Hi everyone! I just found this board 2 days ago and I've been loving reading all about your Disney plans! So it's time for me to post, I guess. My story- I've been to WDW twice, the last time 16 years ago, so it's practically new to me. I got married in August, 2007 and we wanted to go on a honeymoon, but events intervened, both unexpected (the death of my wonderful mom-in-law) and planned (my daughter's wedding this past July). So we've been mulling over ideas for a big trip/honeymoon for months. Then right before Christmas, I told my DH about this great deal at WDW (he's never been there) and we impulsively booked a trip! I'm REALLY excited! We're staying at the AKL January 26-Feb. 2. I've been going crazy trying to do research, making ADRs, compiling lists, etc. And now it's almost time to escape this upstate NY chill for sunny Orlando! Anyway, thanks for all your ideas and enthusiasm and I'm looking forward to everyone trip reports and pics!

WELCOME to the Snowbirds! :goodvibes We're glad you joined us! Have a wonderful trip! :cool1:

Another cold day here. It is -2. I don't think we are going to make that forecasted high of +2!! :rotfl: School got cancelled. Now the kids are off for something like 12 days. Luckily both their teachers saw the cancellation coming and sent home all their make-up work yesterday. Now we have 4 days to get it done!

Welcome back Snykymom, Figmentfan, Crzyred, and Wain0017!! Glad you all had great trips! :cool1:

Glad you are having a magical time Jen! pixiedust:

Much to DS disappointment we had school again today... it was only -18 with the windchill so I guess that's not cold enough:confused3 thats okay with me though as I have been very busy with work... seems like I always get crazy busy when I try to go out of town....

Sounds like everyone has been having a wonderful time on their trips.... we are getting very excited here.... have to get thru DS birthday party this weekend first... 27 teenagers.... yes thats right 27 of them:scared1: its from 7-10 pm so they should all be gone by 11pm.... at least I hope so....

I'm just sitting down to go through some of our pictures. I still have to call work and find out what my schedule looks like for next week and see if I have to work tomorrow or not.

But mainly, I'm staying in layers and hiding from the evil outside today...

Thanks for all the welcomes! I just got off the phone with the dining people-again, I think they must know me by now, I've made so many changes!

Here's our dining schedule for now-
1/26 dinner at 50s Primetime
1/27 dinner at Marrekesh (thought DH would enjoy the belly dancer)
1/28 late (hopefully romantic) dinner at Jiko
1/29 early breakfast at Crystal Palace
1/30 Norway Princess breakfast (I know I'm old, but I'm still a sucker for stuff like that!), dinner at the Garden Grill
2/1 dinner at Teppan Edo
2/2 Boma breakfast right before we leave

We're also doing the Gospel Brunch at the House of Blues, high tea at the GF and maybe dinner at Planet Hollywood. I tried to go for a mix of fun, Disney meals and more sophisticated meals. Hopefully, it'll all be good!

I have to smile when I read everyone's reports about school closings, that's all in the past for me! The kids would be so excited when there was a snow day and crestfallen when there wasn't. My youngest is in college now, so I'm empty-nesting it.

Joy... my DH loves Marrekesh.... one of his fav places to eat in Disney.. and here I always thought it was the food....

HELP! I am furiously packing away and I suddenly realsized that I am unsure of the size of "ziplock" bags I have for the whole "3-1-1" dealy! The bags I have do not have an actual Liquid measurement on the box, they have dimensions... 10.5x11 inches! Are these the right size? Are they too big? Can somebody measure theirs and help me out? PLEASE!!!!!!
