January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part V

Hey Snowbirds!

How is everyone doing? It likes we are going to have to postpone our January trip to Disney next year. I was shocked and excited to find out that I'm expecting yesterday. It was definitely unplanned and unexpected.

I feel badly because my son was talking last night about going back to Disney and how excited he is. We won't be telling him about this baby for some time . . . as long as I can hide it. I don't have a great track record when it comes to sustaining viable pregnancies. I'm optimistic about this one, though.

Just wanted to share. . . . no 1/2 marathon for me next year. All of that hard work so far, down the drain! LOL

Ccongrats Mindy!! Wishing you all the best!
I too had my share of fertility issues - it seems so many people do. But I was lucky and had two wonderful pregnancies and babies.
I feel bad for those who have to hear rude comments about only children. As much as I love having a sibling and am glad my girls do, I totally understand that sometimes it is by choice and sometimes not. There are definitely pros and cons. My friend had her children 10 years apart, not completely by choice, and had to endure so much "commentary" it was ridiculous.
DD8 has a best friend who is an only child and she is the absolutely most delightful child I have ever encountered (including my own LOL!). I just adore her. You never know.
Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well.
I have generally recovered from the big slumber party. It was a blast. The girls had a lot of fun getting their hair and nails done by teenagers! I'll try to post a few pictures.
I still am having trouble with my ears - feels like there is cotton in both of them. Stuffy nose, cough, the works. I hope this spring-like weather will make me feel better! It's over 60 here today!! Yippee!

Hello Snowbirds!

Raining Umbrella- not finding the Singin In the Rain Umbrella- 1.5 days at DHS and never found it, never found it on our 2007 trip either.

I stumbled across it by accident only because I was trying to avoid getting caught up in a crowd from a show. I don't think I could tell you how to find it - it's somewhwere in the streets of America section. Ironically, it started raining shortly after I stood under it for a picture!

Congratulations, Mindy! Wishing you the very best!

My d is an only child, now in college. She was an only by choice, both time-wise and economically. We wouldn't have been able to do the things we did or give her the things we could if we had had more than one. And neither I nor my husband have close relationships with our siblings. And now, with the economy the way it is, I'm glad I only have to fret over one college tuition to pay!

Regrets over our last trip:
1) Not getting to Country Bear Jamboree, an attraction I loved since I first went to Disney when I was younger than my d is now.
2) Not doing character meet & greets - I have no character pictures on my photopass! :sad1:

But those aren't too many regrets, I guess.

Your "no more ticker" in your signature is sad!!!

I agree completely!
Next Disney trip will be to Disneyland Paris, but it's not on the calendar yet. The downside of moving to Europe will be that our next WDW trip won't be before 2012 at the very earliest.

Don't get me started about people who ask about other people's number (to include zero) or spacing of children. That's a major pet peeve of mine. :sad2:

Well I FINALLY got around to getting our Photopass pictures off the CDs. We have some cute ones and it was really fun to relive some memories. It was a little strange looking at lots of other people's pictures (I was in a photopass share)...but a lot of the other families got some great photos! Shelly, there were a bunch of good ones of your family! :thumbsup2

First of all, congratulations Mindy! I haven't been on here in a few weeks, and this was great news to read.

Snykymom: Ditto. Our only D is in her 2nd year of college and we have never for once regretted our decision to have just one child. I was an "older" first-time mom at almost 35 and at 46, went through a bout with ovarian cancer that was thankfully, found very early. DD had just started middle school, and at least she was at an age where she was so helpful to me - can't imagine if I had younger ones what I would have done.

So, we are looking forward to finishing paying for college in two years and then hopefully, I can retire from my teaching job two years after that. No regrets - our D has turned into a wonderful young woman who we are very proud of every day.

That is so sweet.... :lovestruc

I see you stayed at POR in January.... anything special I should know before we stay there in May??????

So glad that you are healthy now.

Too many coincidences here, though - I was also almost 35 when I had my d. She's also in her second year of college. I too had a cancer scare (it wasn't) when I was in my 40's. And my d has also turned into a wonderful young woman and we're very proud too!

Of course, one major difference - I can't even think about retiring! :rotfl:

Wow! Thanks so much for the well wishes Snowbirds. I'm still sort of in shock about the whole thing, to be honest. I have my first appointment with my new doctor at 8 am tomorrow. I get start straight off with with the maternal fetal medicine people, a.k.a. high risk. I'm happy about that, though. At least I know they will be watching over me closely. They're even going to do an ultrasound, which is funny considering I'm only barely 4 weeks.

As far as only children go, we had kind of accepted that DS would be an only child after multiple failed pregnancies and some dabbling in adoption. I know that God has a reason for presenting this pregnancy to us now . . . I'm so very thankful.

Awwww Mindy BIG CONGRATS to you!!!!!!!!!! I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers over the next 9 months!
We have 2 healthy children and I think that's it for us. We'll see- I go back and forth lots lately.
I'm so glad lots of you have things you missed. I think that's why I want to go back so badly there was so much we got to do BUT there were still som any things we missed out on- teacups, Fantasmic- it was pouring down rain, meeting Tink and the other fairies, using my snack credits at Goofy's Candy Co and Main Street Bakery, ...I could go on but it just makes me miss it more. At least I got my Dole Whip! I have the cutest pic of my dd enjoying her first Dole Whip with me. I'll have to dig it up and share.

Thank you Shelly!!
I was just perusing the TRs and knew there were some Snowbird ones I was missing!!

Wow, our first snowbird baby! Congratulations, Mindy!!!

Any regrets about our trip?

We arrived on an EPCOT evening EMH Friday [whoa, say THAT 3 times fast!] and it was SO crowded!!! I was overwhelmed by the crowds and our plans bit the dust pretty quickly. I'm not sure, though, that we could have gone to any other park because they closed so early.

The same is true for MK the next day - those weekend crowds were something else! We did ride quite a bit, saw both Illuminations, Spectro and Wishes. We loved our meals.

Looking back we rushed around A LOT - trying to get as much done in 3 days with 6 people [4 of them being newbies] does that to you. Again, I'm not sure we could have done things differently but I did feel as if I was a contestant on the Amazing Race most of the time - fun but frenzied.

Like someone else said, I definitely regret not learning more about my camera beforehand. I'm taking a little photography class now so feel much more prepared for my solo trip in April. Maybe I'll be able to replace those bad pictures from January with some good ones.

Glad our thread is still going strong -- :grouphug:

wow what a change from the old days! If I had skipped a few days of DISing way back when I would have 50 pages to catch up on! :lmao: Not as chatty now that the excitement of trip planning is over I guess. :sad2:

Thanks for posting the TR links...someday I'll catch up. I've been bust getting ready for my kids birthday party tomorrow- Mickey & Minne Mouse themed of course::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo I made the cutest character nuggets and Tshirts for them from the Creative DISign forum, Mickey Mouse chocolate lollipops and I made sugar cookies with my Mouse Ear cookie cutter I got while we were there. I think my new nickname should be Betty Crocker or Suzy Homemaker lately! I'll have to post some pics when it's over.

Hello all,

Well we went to Disney on ice on Wednesday Jan 18th - we saw the show 100 Years of Magic! I am so glad this was the ice show we chose. Currently in our area there are 2 shows for the limited time and I knew the budget for us was to only see one. They both are playing at the same time :confused3 whihc is a bummer. The other show is Worlds of Fantasy!

Anyhow this show had the best of the best.. they flew all those guys up from orlando to put on this show! How amazing ;)Hope Mickey didn't mind the cold!

These shows are simply amazing and I wish WDW would have them in the parks! I think every character imaginable was in this show! This show was truly Disney magic, even included the voice of Walt!

If this show is coming to a town near you I recommend to grab tickets, they were worth it. We had the "cheap seats" we even got $5.00 off a ticket because it was an opening night special. I thought out seats were incredible- 13 rows up from the ice.

This was a surprise for dd- she did not know until we got in the car to go, we went for a family dinner and then off to the show. She kept asking to go to World of Fantasy to see tink and friends. I was worried she'd be upset mom pickd the wrong one. She was not, she loved the surpirse, she said it was the best ever! She cried at the finale she was so touched by the music and the mouse! I had to fight back tears, normally I am the cryer at the end of the shows!

Soleil - I thought of you and the excitement for your little one! I think her face will be priceless when she sees Go Go! If this is the show you are seeing I hope you love the It's a Small World Tribute- I can't beleive the detail they brought from Orlando! It was so magical! Enjoy every second... I say this because I got so caught up in my camera (which wasn't working) - Arrive early to test the lighting and get all set up ;)

Hi snowbird friends!! Hope all of you are well. I've been trying to keep up with everyone's TRs. Such fun reading. I really should go ahead and write one. It will be like reliving the trip!

I'm feeling a bit nostalgic tonight. Tomorrow DD5 will become DD6! Hard to believe - she's my baby!!! It's funny, she's such a little sassy thing. I got her a Tinkerbell shirt that says "Sassy but sweet!" It is so perfect for her! She is a snuggler, lovey-dovey, but yet she's so feisty! NO ONE gets to push her around! We celebrated with my parents and brother tonight since the girls have gymnastics tomorrow. The birthday girl got to pick where to go out to eat - Perkins!! OY! Then we came home to presents and cake. She's also going to have a party with some friends, but we haven't planned that yet. She gets to bring treats to school tomorrow. Sugar high!
Well, enough of that!
We're getting ready to plan our next trip to WDW. It looks like it will be 11/29 - 12/3 at WDW (not sure which resort yet) and then the 3 day cruise on 12/3- 12/6 (our special $99 bounceback!). It's so nice to know I get to go back soon and see everything all decorated for Christmas. We hope to go to MVMCP too!

I'll have to head over there and check it out...although it's probably 20 pages back by now. ;)Your TR moves much faster than the Snowbirds and these days I'm at more of a Snowbird thread pace! I promise one of these days I'll catch up with everyone's TR's.:rolleyes1

Congrats on planning your next trip...so jealous!

So glad you had fun at Disney on Ice- gotta get your fix any way you can! :goodvibes

Hi everyone! Wow, we really are a lot less chatty lately. I'm really going through withdrawal right now. Updating my TR has been kinda sad. We really had a great time, but sometimes it's hard going back and looking through the pictures. I miss the weather!!! It is starting to warm up around here. This week is supposed to be in the 50's. Break out the flip flops! Well, I just wanted to pop in and say hello. I have to clean the house today. My entire dance team is coming over on Sunday for a girls night. I have major cleaning to do and then I'll just have to do touch up on Sunday. I miss everyone!

We did it!! (Note my new tickers! - but sometimes both don't show up). We booked our 3 day cruise for 12/3/09 on our bounceback offer. They said we could book it now and apply the bounceback later. The deposit basically pays for the whole thing then! I'm so psyched!
Now we have to decide where we're going to stay at WDW from 11/29 - 12/3.

Thank you for the b-day wishes for Paige. She's pretty darn excited today!! Grinning since she got up!
