January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part IV !!!

We leave in 10 days and I haven't started packing at all! We recently moved into our new home, so most of our clothes are still in boxes. That certainly makes packing for a trip even more stressful!

We're only going for 7 days (usually we go for 14), so I think I'm only going to bring one pair of shorts, 2 capris, 1 jeans, 2 short sleeved shirts, 3 long sleeved, 1 or 2 sweatshirts, 1 swimsuit, teevas and sneakers. The forecast isn't looking as nice as I had hoped, mostly lower 60's in the daytime and some rain. Ahh well, at least we'll be at WDW!:thumbsup2

Good Morning Snowbirds. :flower3:

I am having trouble with my computer and these boards. For some reason it keeps timing out. I think maybe it is more me than them.:goodvibes

Today is the day where I phone around for a price on new tires, oil change and brakes for our vehicle. We were hoping to put it off until after our trip but DH finally agrees with me that we require new tires. He found out with our last snow storm and DH was stuck in snow several times and took too long coming home from work. We truly don't wish to meet a nasty snow storm while driving down and have no traction. We read about an AAA service center at Disney and I will phone there and inquire about pricing about brakes. Up here we are taxed on everything and the labour seems quite high, so we were wondering how much they charged down there.

I was wondering if any Snowbirds have recently bought a Wii Fit. I am wondering if one of you southern Snowbirds (in the USA) could tell me an approximate price of one. We are interested in purchasing one but wonder if they would be cheaper to purchase one on our vacation than up here. Thank you for anyone that can help. I know you are all busy in your final moments of getting ready for your awesome Disney vacation.:woohoo:

Another question I have for those Snowbirds who leave before me is -If you see Rhino from the movie Bolt could you please post where you meet him? I think he is one of the characters I am most looking forward to meeting. Please don't flame me but I thought he was the funniest in the Bolt movie.

Does anyone remember how much the pressed penny books at WDW are? I was going to get some for the boys and didn't know if I should do ebay or wait until I get there.

I am listening to Lou's podcast and there is a whole segment about pressed pennies. He states the books are about $6.95. Here is the link to the podcast. It is about half way through. He and a guest are thoroughly discussing all about it. I find it very interesting. http://www.wdwradio.com/ The link to the podcast is along the right side where you can click on "Listen to Show".

They are around $7-8 and you can get them almost everywhere! Our DS has so much fun scouting out the pressed penny locations!

Good afternoon my feathered friends.

They moved my mom to a regular room this afternoon!:woohoo: . While I was there today the doctor came in. He said my mom has the all clear for Disney. She will just get tired more quickly. My mom says she's fine with that because she'll bring books along and just sit our hotel room and read. So in reality, it probably is better for the vacation for her to rest, because as we all know if you're at home you find other things to do than rest. We may get her a wheel chair for a few days too. So things are starting to look up around here.

So glad to here she's doing better!!!

Only today did I approach the subject of packing (mostly in terms of the Magical Express - our flight lands at midnight. Do we pick up our luggage ourselves or get it the next day?) and he rolled his eyes.

...but I can probably start collecting things. Sunscreen. Rain ponchos./QUOTE]

We started discussing just this very thing last night! I think we're going to grab our own luggage instead of using the ME tags. We get in later in the evening, and I don't want to take the chance of not getting our luggage until the next day. We're planning on using that arrival evening to unpack and just get our bearings before hitting the parks bright and early the next morning.

Just an observation...
It's funny to me how we've all switched from "are we gonna get a code" to "what am I gonna pack?" :rotfl: Although I LOVE getting on here several times a day and chatting with you all, there wasn't as much ENERGY (Please, I hope someone doesn't take this as negative because it's not), but now that our trips are getting SO close, everyone's back in the high energy OMG I HAVE SO MUCH TO DO mode!!! :yay: I love it! IT'S FUN!!! You guys are an awesome support system and I am so glad I've had you all to share this adventure with!! :grouphug: 26 DAYS UNTIL OUR ROADTRIP BEGINS!!!! aaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!!! I HAVE SO MUCH TO DO!!!!!! :scared:

I've noticed, too, that we've gotten more chatty again! :goodvibes

It's probably a little early to be worrying about the temperatures too much. Heck, last week, we watched our Christmas Eve forecast go from "no snow accumulation" to "7 inches of snow" to "2 inches of snow" - we ended up with 5 when it was done, but that was in the three days leading up to it. I probably won't REALLY worry about the weather/temperatures until about 48 hours before I leave (and even then it's kind of a crap shoot!). But, really, my DH says "the cooler the better!" for the marathon.

Yeah, I'm torn, too. The whole "midnight and waiting for my luggage" bit sounds "ugh" (especially flying out of the frozen north - who knows WHAT time we'll actually get in!!) but then the whole thought of having to catch up with it the next morning sounds like more work than necessary! We'll definitely be taking a carry on with a change of clothes anyway... but we can't carry our toiletry kits. Six of one, half dozen of another... 11 days to decide, anyway!!

Good morning all! I missed everyone yesterday. I had a horrible stomach bug. I woke up at 3am and got sick and it didn't stop until the afternoon. Then, for the remainder of the day, I had a fever and my body ached so bad. I'm feeling much better today. Just feeling rundown and tired. I must say, I feel like I have the best DH and DD in the world right now. They kept checking on me and getting me what I needed. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Now, time to go catch up on all I missed yesterday!

Morning, Snowbirds!!

Hope everyone is having a great start to their week. Heading to the doctor in a few hours and then on to work for a short bit.

One day closer to Disney!

I'm so excited for all of you that are leaving this week! Yea!:yay: I'm at 26 days and time is just flying by. I haven't taken down my Christmas decorations yet. We keep them up for New Year's since we have people over. We'll probably take them down on NY day since my DH is off from work.

I know I'm so excited for those of you leaving this week...isn't Soleil leaving this week or pretty darn close to it!!! Becca has to be getting close to be married and on her way to Disney too...you guys are going to have such a great time.

Make sure when you get back you have plenty of photos and reports to share with us!!!

I haven't really thought about packing since we are still dealing with the car issue, however I have been slowly buying things off my list so its all here at the house. Next items are Wet Ones and water bottles LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just wanted to chime in that I am so excited for all of you with trips in the nex few days. I'm making a countdown chain now! Wheeee!

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

All this packing talk is just making us more excited. We're doing pretty well. The kids are both completely packed. My Husband and I are pretty close (still need another pair of sneakers, underwear, socks etc.). Yesterday, we finished our snack package we mail down as well. Saturday, we purchased all our travel toiletries and wipes, quart bags etc. Hubby worked up a nice packing list to help out. It's sure is nice to be 95% ready with 23 days to go. No running around the day before we leave making sure we didn't forget anything.:thumbsup2 The less stress the better!:)

Good morning all!! Well, we are closing in!!! I am not packing or deciding on weather till the Wd./Thurs. before. It's too apt to change. So, I hope you all had a good weekend. Meghan, glad you are feeling better-I still have the sinus stuff, just not as bad, sore throat and a HUGE ulcer on my tongue which is really worse than the sore throat. Well, I have got to DRAG myself to the store today and get some groceries. Just thinkin' about it is making me tired and feeling more:sick: Maybe after lunch I will feel better. But then again, maybe not:confused3

Well, I am going to start secretly working on my packing list!!! I got the rest of my magical mail last week!!! So, I am glad about that. I do need to also finish making lesson plans for the next semester;I'm about 1/2 way finished with that. Well, I am off to take some Echinacea and see if I can finish off this sickness!!!! Hope you are all enjoying this week with your kids and families!!!! Those of you leaving this week, think of us and send lots of photos/crowd info!!!!

And I thought I'd have some more time to hang out here when we hit the US! Boy, was I wrong!:confused3 :lmao: We haven't stopped moving since we came 2 weeks ago. Hope you are all well! I think, now that the holidays are winding down, we'll hit a more regular schedule. Oi, I'm tired! A good tired!

And here I am, panicking because we're leaving for Disney in just a week and a half! AHHHH! I can't wait...and yet I feel woefully unprepared! I need to get reading some more and get some plans set. We're going no matter what. That's what I keep telling myself! One more day and I can start watching teh weather for our trip too.

So, just checking in! I'm still here. I try to read, but I'm way behind on all your news and goings-on. HOpe to catch up!:goodvibes

Hello Snowbirds!
I haven't posted here in a while. We finally told our kids about our trip last night (the last night of Hannukah) and it was a great success. We did a scavenger hunt with puzzle pieces which made a Guess Who's Going to Disney World? picture. We then watched the planning dvd. Now I don't have to be as secretive when I am reading the DIS! I feel like our plans for our trip are slowly falling into place. We are hosting a New Year's party so things will be pretty busy here this week. Hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning Snowbirds.. My disney spending money just got a little nicer! I worked from open until close at my drugstore. A lot of overtime in that shift. Its doubly nice because I will get that paycheck the friday before we leave! Speaking of getting ready and packing I will begin packing next sunday! All of the laundry is done, I am just waiting til after NYE cause we will have people here staying with us and whatnot! Have a great day everyone!

Good morning Snowbirds.

I see I've missed several pages while I was down & out. :sad2: I have been fighting this cold for nearly 2 weeks now and then got the stomach bug Saturday night. I was in bed all day yesterday. My whole body still aches.

I read through briefly. Hope I didn't miss anything. . .

Crzyred - great news about your mom.

Meghan - sorry you had the stomach bug too. It is terrible.

I think someone asked about pressed penny books - I believe we paid around $7.

And someone asked about photopass CM's at the character meals - while there are not photopass photographers at the character meals, there are photographers at some of them. At Chef Mickey's and Ohana's (and probably others) they take your picture when you check in. Then they try to sell it to you during the meal for something like $30. But you can go to the photo place later (can't think of the name right now) at MK (on the right when you enter MK) even if you didn't buy the pictures and tell them the date and time you were there and they can find the pics for you and put them on your photopass card.

Oooo...looks like many were hit with the stomach bug. Blech. Sorry! That's just awful. We had a mild touch of it, but nothing terrible. It did knock my Na-na out for awhile.:sad2:

Shelley...I missed the big reveal! How did it go Christmas morning when you told your kids???? Ugh...I need to find your post!
