Im just curious does anyone think the crowds are going to be up this January because of the promotions? We usually go in January becuase it has low crowds but I am starting to get a little worried.:sad2:

There are so many theories on this. A lot of people think it will be crowded because of the deals and at the end of the month because of the Super Bowl being in Tampa and because of MLK holiday that weekend could be crowded. Others say that because of the economy, even the deal won't be bringing in crowds. I'm hoping for that! :) I'm sure it will depend on the specific time you go. Typically January is pretty light, so that helps us! I would guess that the promotion will draw people in for the typical school vacation times, like in February and March - spring breaks etc. Let's hope that's the case! :)
One other thing - if anyone is trying to get ADRs now for January and is able to get their choices easily, that might be an indicator that it's not going to be too busy!
Maybe someone who uses TourGuide Mike might have some updated info?

I will continue to hope that we will still have a nice uncrowded trip like years past. Here is pixie dust for all of us pixiedust:

qotd: I am going to my in-laws tomorrow for thanksgiving. we are doing both set of grandparents. My family was never big into thanksgiving so I don't know how I am goin to do it!

I have to ask about your two tickers. What is your pirate adventure? Cruise?

Our pirate adventure is that we booked a pirate themed room at the CBR and my son (who is obsessed with pirates) will be old enough to do the pirate adventure cruise at the Grand Floridian. I do sometimes think it would be great to go on a cruise but I get motion sickness on a boat and I would hate to spend that kind of money and be sick the whole time...but my pirate loving son would defineatly enjoy it.

I see in your ticker that you are going on a cruise, is this your 1st?

It is our first Disney cruise. Last year we went on a 7 day Carnival cruise with a big family reunion group. Way fun! My DH then HAD to try Disney! We're so excited it's getting closer. We only booked it in May, so at least we haven't been waiting too long! We're hoping to do the bounceback offer they have now where we can go on a 3 day in Fall 2009 for only $99 per person! Yay, more Disney!!
Oh, and I should mention, I was the only one who felt motion sickness the first two days (they were really rough) but Dramamine took care of it!

When I saw the bounceback offer for the cruise line I really considered booking a cruise...it seems like an awesome deal...is dramamine an over the counter medication. It is very strange because as a child I loved boats and was always on one because we live on a lake but after I had my son things just havent been the same....even some theme park ride make me sick now! I have had people tell me that because the boat is so big you really dont even feel it moving and that I probably wouldnt get sick, I guess the only way to find out is to actually go on one.

QOTD: Where are we going? To family about 4 hours away. What are we bringing? Pumpkin pie & sweet potato pie. I make my pumpkin pie using a real pumpkin, not canned. The flavor is so much more intense! Love it!

Hope all have a wonderful turkey day tomorrow. Wishing safe travels to all!

We are going to my DH's aunt's house, about 6 hours (or so) away. We are going to try and make cranberry sauce tonight and we're bringing donuts. These are some pretty awesome donuts and we need to tell everyone about them! ;)

Friday, we're then going to my BIL's neck of the woods, to meet/hang out with/spend time with the newest addition to the family!

Saturday, home again!

Good afternoon Snowbirds! :goodvibes

I hope everybody is getting all that they need done for Thanksgiving!

We are going to my Dad and Step-Mom's tomorrow. They do Thanksgiving and we do Christmas at our house. I am taking potatoes, rolls, and desserts tomorrow. We don't have to be there until 5:00, so we will probably put up the Christmas tree earlier in the day!

Yup, Dramamine is over the counter. There are also these behind the ear patches called scopolamine or something like that. That is prescription. I've been thinking about taking dramamine for some of the rides at WDW too!

Howdy Howdy my Snowbird friends!

I just wanted to wish you all a fabulous THANKSGIVING DAY tomorrow! I wish you all the best day ever! Enjoy your time with your friends and family and all your wonderful food! popcorn::

I also wanted to tell you all that I put up a "mini-update" on my PTR! If any of you are interested, go have a look! I need some feedback!

Happy Turkey Day my friends! :happytv:

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this board but we're going to the World in January. Just wondering if any of you saw the new changes to the park schedules in January. I'm not happy with these changes. Some of them affect park hours by 3 hours!!! Does anyone know why they are changing the hours?

Hi there! WELCOME to the Snowbirds! :goodvibes

I have only noticed 1 hour changes during the time I will be there. I'm guessing it is just a cost cutting measure during the slower months. . .

I love to cross-stitch, too! Just finished two birth records for my aunt, who recently became a grandmother times 2. Maybe I'll join you over on 123stitch.com after Thanksgiving!

come on over , the more the merrier. I am sunni over there. Just jump in and introduce yourself.

I hope all Snowbirds have a wonderful Thanksgiving and save lots of room for dessert. :goodvibes

41 Days Till Disney

Happy almost Turkey Day everyone! I just finished cleaning up after a playdate. It's amazing what a big mess a few kids can make- glad I don't do it too often! It was a thankful playdate so everyone brought food donations and we'll take them to the local food bank.

QOTD: We're going to my Mother in laws for dinner and my sister's for dessert. Everyone lives nearby within a 45 minute drive so it's not too bad. Still haven't decided what I'm bringing yet so I guess I better get thinking on that one huh!

Crowds in Jan- I think it may be a little higher than usual but I still don't think it will compare to peak season crowds. I know it's a good deal- especially for those of us who were already planning to go. We had some other family members that wanted to go but it still wasn't a good enough deal for them to swing it.

Weather in Jan- I looked up the link and it says an average 72F which is jeans and tshirts for me. I think I'll pack some shorts just in case.:confused3
Can I vent for a minute?....thanks!

So my mother is the youngest of 5. Her 3 brothers all live within 20 minutes of us and her sister lives in Kentucky. Her 95 yr old mother lives with us (now let me just say that I know I am very lucky to say that my grandmother is 95 yrs. old and is still in decent health and is pretty mobile and is still together in her head - although we are starting to see a decrease in that lately. Really I do know that I am lucky to spend my days with her.). So with Thanksgiving coming up we figured someone would want Grandma with them...right. Ok well no, no one has called or invited her anywhere, well that's ok, we are doing a meal here, so no biggie right.

However this is just the tip of the ice berg of no one doing anything with Grandma. When we go to Disney, Grandma will be spending some time in Kentucky with my aunt. So my mom and I figured they would want grandma for Christmas down there....oh no, my aunt will be driving up here New Years Day and then she and her husband will be spending a few days in Southern WI where my cousin's wife is living (don't get me started on that subject....:sad2: ). So since we leave on the 7, we figure we won't really have much time to get ready for our trip. Ok well, who cares, we just want to get the h*ll out of here.

So now my grandma is starting to say things about "being shipped around like an unwanted package" all the time. When she sees a Wal-mart bag or something she makes comments about wanting to go places, well yes we get that, however I'm not about to take a 95 yr old to the mall on a Saturday anymore.

I have on uncle in particular that I just feel the need to punch whenever I am in his presence. His wife is a not nice word. She calls my aunt and says that "we don't let anyone take Grandma for the day." Well their definition of the day is to pick g-ma up at 2pm for dinner and return her by 6...yeah that's ALL DAY!

I've considered sending a letter to my uncles (because actually talking to them would get me no where because one of them just hangs up on you when he doesn't like what you are saying). My mother wants me to just drop it. However, and I hate saying this, but my mother is a pushover. She never says no, but just keeps taking more on. She feels guilty about doing anything without Grandma because she doesn't get out much anymore.

We are all at our wits end with this, but no one is doing anything to help. A part of me really wants to say something to everyone, just so I can defend my mother, but I also don't want to hurt her even more because her siblings would turn everything against us and make it all our fault. Today my mom started to talk about looking for plane tickets to come back home earlier than the rest of us, so that she doesn't have to "bother" any one else's lifestyles.

There is so much more that goes on with this and it just frustrates me. Everyone in our house is constantly crabby with each other because things just keep piling up and we really don't see an end in sight :sad2: :(

Thanks for letting me vent. It's been a long time dealing with this, but like I said previously, I do feel very lucky to have this time with my g-ma and hear all the stories she has to tell  .

Ok, off to make tacos now. Have a good night.
Sending you hugs! We went through something similar a few years ago when my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer. My parents took him in and cared for him until he passed- which was months of agony for our family. My sister and I helped quite a bit by going to stay with him during the day while my parents worked. My dad's sister didn't help out and it caused a good bit of contention. She was first however to take what she wanted when it came time to clean out his house though.:sad2:
Snowbirds.... for those interested in taking a look at a very detailed packing list... go to www.themouseforless.com then go to downloads (on the left side) and then towards the bottom of the list is the packing list..... has just about everything you could imagine!!!!
Thanks- I'll have to check and make sure I didn't miss anything on my packing list!
Woohoo!

Here's my last update of my current WIP: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sarbah77/2997645892/

I've actually done a LOT more, but i'll probably take it off the q-snap tonight. Then I'll take a picture and put it away for the weekend. It's not exactly a traveling project!!
Beautiful! My mom crosstitches- She's a Stoney Creek fan! She did the 100th DMC Anniversary picture of the angel which used all of the floss colors. It took her 4 YEARS to complete it!

Sarah, that is gorgeous!!! I have never attempted one of those, I just sit an stare LOL

Did you get the PM I sent you yesterday?

Here is a picture of a couple of my recent finishes...

Wow, what crafty Snowbirds! Y'all are very talented! I enjoy cross stitching as well, but haven't done it in a loooong time. I started a Christmas stocking :santa: for DH many years ago and it's still not done...and since then I have had 3 kids who I also need to do stockings for... :rolleyes1

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen the Snowbirds this quiet in the middle of a weekday. Where is everybody? :bored:

It has been very quiet in here the past few days. . . Maybe the thread is going to slow down a bit with the holidays. . . :confused3
