Hey Sharadoc, we have Wigilia with Oplatki too! Have you ever tried making pierogies? Here is a strange question...how do you pronounce Wigilia? I always remember my mom saying something like vee-LEE-ah, but my aunt says vig-EEL-yah. But then again, my aunt (mom's brother's wife) is of Irish descent so how would she know? Both my mom and my Babci are dead so I can't ask them...which prompts me to make an unsolicited suggestion (sorry!) to those who haven't yet learned how to make their traditional dishes, DO IT! You never know when you will become the one responsible for carrying on the family traditions.

My grandmother was Babci to my kids generation, and she lived into her 80's. She was the fantastic cook, and I've tried to recreate a lot of her holiday dishes. I used to shop for her and watch her cook, knowing that she wouldn't write anything down for me. When we cleaned out her house, I took her baking dishes, some pots and pans, and even some of her spices from her cabinet. When I cook one of her dishes, I use one of her pieces. I think she helps me cook her food from heaven Folks have asked me how I learned to make some of the dishes, and I tell them I just do it by instinct. I let her "tell" me how to cook them.

You are exactly right - you never know when it will be your turn to carry on the tradition. Don't lose those old traditions - they are what make us who we are!

Wow! Soleil you are doing an awesome job sorting all the resorts! I too love to organize things! I just can't seem to find the time right now! Life is too busy!

I have just one tiny correction for your lists...I hope it doesn't send you over the bend! We are actually staying at AsSports for just the first night the 19th. We will then be at WL from the20th through to the 28th and then at POP for our last night! (although thtere is a chance we may just stay at the WL on our last night if there is availability) Hope you don't mind fixin' that up! Thanks Soleil! I wouldn't want to not be where somebody thought I was!

Castaway Cay...I love that beach...actuall it's the only beach I have ever spent a whole day on. Which would make a DCL cruise one of my favorite vacations...but I guess that doesn't count since it's still Disney.

So my other choice is going to visit my family in Tennessee...they live in a small town not far from Nashville...it's a very relaxing vacation...very different than Disney.

You count it! I let you.

My family was from Poland and came here after the Holocaust - I'm actually a first-generation American. My father's mother & father were Babcia & Dziadzia! Babcia lived into her 80's and Dziadzia into his 90's, both having survived two World Wars as Jews in Europe and saving their children too (as did my mother's parents) - no easy feat! Babcia was a wonderful cook, and we have her Rosh Hashanah and Passover traditions and recipes. And of course we have the wonderful memories!

QOTD: I love cruises! Haven't been on a Disney one (yet). I love all the activities, and I like seeing different places without having to pack & move! We've done the eastern Caribbean, and even hit Venezuela on one of them. Two on my list still to do are Mediterranean and Alaskan. Ed McMahon, I'm still waiting for my giant check!!

What is you favorite place to vacation BESIDES WDW?

I think it depends on where I've been recently but...

I loved Seattle and the Olympic Peninsula and can't wait to go back. DH isn't in as big a hurry, though. (We went in 2006)

We went to Alaska (via cruiseship and then a self-guided tour) this past June and really absolutely loved it. In fact, we were telling DH's family about it over Thanksgiving and we started planning our next trip.

Disney. Alaska. What? Nothing like hitting opposite ends of the spectrum, huh?

(I also like Traverse City to Pentwater part of coastal Michigan, but DH also says that's because it's very New England-y. What can I say? Home!)
