January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part I !!!

I have a transportation question. I haven't been to WDW in many, many years. I remember having to take either a ferry or monorail to get to MK.

I'm staying at POP and will be using the buses to get around. So my question, do the buses drop you off and then you take the ferry or monorail? Or is that bypassed and you go straight to the gate area?

Thanks!

All resort buses go straight to the MK main entrance and bypass the monorail.
If you were to drive yourself you would park at the Ticket and Transportation Center and have to take the monorail or the ferry.

Hey Shelly! :) I have a bit of an update on my ADR's for you! Just so you know, I really appreciate that you do this for all of us! You must be a SUPERMOM! ( I'll just bet you have a secret cape stashed away somewhere don't you?) :rotfl2:

Anyway, here are the updates!

January 26 - 630pm - Nine Dragons @ Epcot (for Chinese New Year)
January 27 - 605pm 1900 Park Fare

Thanks again Shelly! :goodvibes

Good night to all snow birds!

Exactly - it's amazing how much info is available on the DIS. I have come across many folks on these boards who don't know that there is actual information on the website, not just discussion boards.

For those who may not know, look at the bottom half/tan band across the top of the message boards page. It lists DIS Home, Theme Parks, Resorts, etc. etc. Click on one of those topics and it takes you to a WORLD of info. (pun intended) :rotfl:

I know I can share with all of you, my "family". Sometimes I get annoyed at some of the posts on these boards, because it's obvious that people don't do any research, either on the web or books, and just jump in here and ask questions. Sometimes they could even get their answer if they scroll through a couple pages of the message boards. I want to say - READ FIRST!!!!!

Another peeve - people who don't preview their posts and see all the mis-spellings in their posts, especially the titles. I want to proofread their posts for them, or grade them like a teacher ;) It's especially annoying because there is an editing function, so folks could fix them later.

No offense, I just get impatient because most of the time I'm sneaking a read at work. Ah well, everyone is special in their own way :) I must be a Grumpy today.
Hiya Grumpy - Bashful here...

I'm such a newbie on this board that I don't know enough to get vexed at anything [give me a little time though!]. I lurked for WEEKS before I drummed up enough courage to post something. And to start a thread - whoa - still can't see myself doing that....anyway I do see your point, though. I've seen some threads and wondered - wasn't that already asked somewhere?!?!?!?

All that to say, I do love our little thread -- all this great information and support. I'm afraid that I'll forget all the little tips/recommendations I've learned by the time I get to WDW. [With my planning spreadsheet, I do have a list of tips in a word doc that I keep up with - hopefully I'll remember that I did that!]

I have done the Fairy Godmailer! Well, I should say that I have received from a Fairy Godmailer! I never got in on one of those Fairy Godmailer threads because I never wanted to give out my children's names and our address to a stranger. But when we went in May 2007 I was in a May planning thread (we still chat today!), just like this one. We chatted and all got to know each other quite well. Then several of us went again in May 2008. Well one of the girls had to go in April 2008, so she offered to be my Fairy Godmailer! I felt comfortable doing this since we had chatted for over a year and I saw pictures or her and her family and some of the other people from the thread had actually met her in WDW. So she sent each of the kids a post card from their favorite character! They were thrilled. And yes, DS9 checked the post-mark to be sure I hadn't sent it from home! :rotfl:

So maybe you could get someone on this thread who is going a few weeks before you to do it! :goodvibes
Shelly, don't tell us that you have other friends on the board? Other friends who aren't snowbirds? Say it isn't so???

[sniff]

Hi, Snowbirds!:yay: It's 8:30am and I'm waiting to start my Arabic lessons! :rolleyes1

I gotta get back on TourGuideMike's today. We've got violin practice and a playdate scheduled for my oldest daughter, which will involve a trip to Pizza Hut, but I might have time to tool around some Disney sites later this evening. I'm needed a Disney boost. Feeling overwhelmed about our big move back to the US, all that needs to be done here...finding a house for 7 months over there...UGH. I just need Disney to take me away!:rotfl:

And the scrapbooking bug has bit me hard again, after several weeks of nothing, I've been creating pages like crazy! I can't wait to have Disney pictures to scrap!!!

Have a great day!

:cheer2: Shelly, Shelly, she's the best !! :cheer2:

NDG - are they doing something special for Chinese New Year in the restaurant? My little Mulan fan would probably love that - I hadn't thought of going there for dinner on that day. I do plan to be at Epcot, thinking that there will probably be a traditional dragon parade and firecrackers. Dinner could be really cool.

Aw, you guys are embarrassing me!! Just kidding, I really do appreciate the love!! :grouphug:

I am really trying to keep up with the lists the best I can. I know I promised a lists of "matches" but I just don't think I can keep up with another list with getting new people nearly everyday. So if someone else wants to tackle a list of matches, feel free! :goodvibes If not, I think everyone can figure out their matches from the lists and then go from there.

Hello Grumpy! Thanks for making me insecure! I was already paranoid enough about my punctual errors.
(Hopefully I spelled that correctly!) <------- That's probably not a proper sentence, either. :scared1:

Trixie- Is it you that loves Michael Phelps?

Here's a hilarious quote from OneTreeHillAddict's Trip Report:

"The Photopass guy asked me if I had seen Michael Phelps with a lot of excitement. I was like, "come again"!? I thought he was referring to a character. Then he spoke up and said it louder. I was like, "Sorry, I don't know who that is". The guy looked at me like I was crazy! After he explained who it was was I remembered hearing about the guy on the news but at the time my mind was a blank. So that day Disney had a "celebrity" in the mix."

Thought you might like that!

Yes, indeedy, it is me who loves him.

Who is this OneTreeHill and how do they not know Michael Phelps??? :lmao: There are people in this world that don't know his every move (good and bad)? Strange. He did ride Soarin' while he was there, Lady Lallie talked to a CM who's roommate met him while he was getting on the ride. He also got to go up into the castle, did the Epcot Segway tour, and the Richard Petty Driving Experience. If anyone wants photos, feel free to let me know! :rotfl2:

Thanks for thinking of me, Bella!

I used to feel that way about the boys in the band Hanson. My sisters and I could tell you where they were at any given moment.

morning snowbirds!!

We had an awesome night last night. The kids & I played our Magic Kingdom board game after homework was done. The little guy was really getting into it. He would point to the rides & tell me about them or ask questions if we hadn't ridden them last year. So we ended up talking about the parks & rides all night. HMM mom might have to step in on the planning for them. Morgan wants to go to MK the first day & Corwin wants to do AK. I think the brainwashing is really taking hold.:rolleyes1

Can I classify as a snowbird if I'm traveling from the panhandle of Florida to Orlando in January??? LOL

And another scrapbooker YAY!! I love to scrapbook and suffice to say my Disney ones are always the first ones done LOL! I'm actually going to have to buy a new book for this next trip! I finally finished our Alaska album (lived there 3 years...that explains the move to Florida) and am working on our Florida album (only 3 years behind LOL) Sorry I'm rambling now LOL! I'll stop!!
