January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part I !!!

Not open for further replies.
I have a food question! We are going to do Akershus this year--should we do lunch or dinner? We have ressies for Cindy's at lunch one day toward the beginning of the trip. I wanted to cancel and do Akershus and dh said 'Can't we do both?' I just didn't want to princess him and the boys to death!!! So, I am needing to get these ADRs lined out. What's your opinion?

SO, it is just 6am in Washington State. The sun is beginning to come up. About 1.5 hours ago, I heard noises in the bathroom, which is NEVER good. My 12 yo is sick. THEN I hear the dreaded words NO mother wants to hear... "Mom, I missed..." GROSS!!! SO, 45 minutes later, I have cleaned everything up, sent him back to bed, scrubbed the skin off my hands, and I sit down to DIS. Because I can. My DH conviently waits until the coast is clear, uses the bathroom & goes back to bed. Not a word to me. Hmmm... How is it that he did not hear ANY of that and then wakes up just as all the work is over? This is obviously not Disney World. There is NO magic here today! :wizard:

ETA: I know this is a yucky post, I just needed to share the gross-ness of what I had to endure this morning already. And I know that you all understand... Thanks!

Hope your DS is feeling better soon and that the rest of you stay healthy! :wizard: :flower3:

QOTD
What shoes are your favorite for Disney?

Well, at the age of 28, I was diagnosed with arthritis in my right knee (bad enough that the surgeon was discussing how I'd need an osteotomy and a knee replacement sooner than later). At age 30, when I went to Disney, my left knee started aching... I have runner's knee in my left knee from favoring my arthritic knee (I need an emoticon of the smiley slapping his forehead).

To make a long story short (too late!): it's supportive running sneakers for me, all the way baybeeee. Though I do have Mary Jane crocs that I have little problem with so I might bring those along for a break.

I'd rather get a Disney Pin code!! :rotfl:

Oh! Oh! I got one today! I got one today!! But my DH says "we're already going in January, I'm not going this fall." And one of my best friend says "I'm not paying $185/night for a moderate!" Sad. Sad sad sad.

This will be our first visit in Jan. and I'm already losing sleep at night over what to pack. If it's warm enough for shorts should I buy them now for my kids b/c what fit them this summer may not fit in Jan.

Last time (2005), we ended up packing last minute and STILL my husband screwed up. We were expecting it to be jeans/t-shirt weather and instead it was SHORTS weather. Well, we live in Michigan so we can handle colder but it was in the 80s almost the WHOLE week. But we didn't realize it until the night we were packing... and DH only packed jeans. We spent an afternoon trying to find him shorts in Orlando in January. So, it really can depend!

Hi! Just found this thread. My name is Deb, and I live in Alaska...in a town called Wasilla...ever heard of it??? :rotfl:

I was there in June! We stopped by your Fred Meyer on our way to Denali National Park. It's kind of amusing to think that little town...!!

My current countdown is 2 weeks until I go to Atlanta for a short trip!! I can't wait!! :)

If I have already paid my trip in full, will I still be eligible for the codes?

Let me add another thing I am thinking! I have never done CRT for lunch. I was looking at the menu & the kids (under 9) are getting a choice of hamburger, chicken nuggets(or strips I don't remember which) and it's the same basically as a counter service meal. So....should I just skip it this time, we've done this several times for dinner and I think it's going to be a waste! Besides the fact that it's 2 TS credits!! I think maybe I'll just cancel and do only the Akershus. We all are leaning toward wanting more TS than CS this time, but even with the DDP, if we pay for 1 extra meal OOP, it's going to be cheaper than the DxDp for our family. So, I don't want to use up 2 for CRT, if Akershus is a better experience and the food selection is better. Anybody else had this quandry?:confused3

Last year, on October 31st to be exact, I got a Pin code that was good for January, February, and some of March I think. It was a discount on your room, plus free upgraded tickets. This offer came out to all Disney Visa cardholders I believe. We were already booked for May. I thought about switching, but DH didn't want to go in January, plus it was our 10th anniversary in May. So after it was 95 degrees all week down there in May, DH says - hey, maybe we should go in January! :rolleyes1 Hmm. . . why didn't I think of that??? :lmao: :rotfl:

Then this summer I got a Pin (I think it was for Disney Visa cardholders too) good for this fall, I forget the exact dates, something like Oct & Nov maybe. It was a room discount for CBR!!! I was so bummed because that's our favorite resort.

So I have my fingers crossed for something for January! :wizard:

If you have already done CRT several times, I would probably skip it. I have a hard time believing that any meal is worth 2TS credits. We never do any 2TS meals. If we had girls I'm sure we would do CRT once, but probably only once!

Good luck, I'm sure you'll figure out what's best for your family! :goodvibes

Hi! Just found this thread. My name is Deb, and I live in Alaska...in a town called Wasilla...ever heard of it??? :rotfl:

I'm taking 3 of my 5 kids by myself to Disney in January...January 26-February 10. Usually I take all 5, but oldest just started college, and second oldest has sports, so it's just me and younger ones.

We'll be staying onsite at POP. I'm so excited!!!

Nice to "meet" you!

My Father-in-law was stationed in Alaska when he was in the military; He said they camped near Wasilla a few times. He said that one night the bugs were so bad that they (the soldiers) were in Mummy sleeping bags with towels over their faces to keep the bugs off. He swears the bugs were the size of small airplanes!;) All kidding aside, he said it was a very nice town, similar in size and makeup to where our family is from in New York. Welcome!

You will definitely see more Princesses at Akershus. We have seen Arial, Jasmine, Snow White, Mulan, Aurora, and Belle, even dare I say Cinderella(!) at dinner last year. We have done CRT once (at least we can say we did it:) ) and probably won't do it again.

I was in the same quandry and for us it made more sense to bump up to DxDP.
If it were me, I would skip CRT this trip. I think the "price" of the 2TS would be more about the character interaction than the food. If you are desperatley wanting to eat in the Castle and see Cindy, then I would use my credits somewhere else. Hope this helps! :goodvibes

Zowie -- every time Shelly updates us, she adds a whole page to the thread! This is a big group!

I have a question of the day --

what do y'all take into the parks? Every time I travel somewhere, I always seem to lug a really heavy bag around with me. When I went to San Diego last spring, I did a lot of walking, which was a lot of fun except my bag got heavier and heavier as the day wore on. I want to avoid that at Disney and just take the basics. Basics being my camera with a few things stuck inside my camera bag such as my cell phone, credit card, ID, cash, chapstick, maps, extra batteries [I have a good-sized camera bag]. I've got a lanyard for my KTTW and fastpasses. What do y'all do?

And, spokanemom, you're a great mom. I am the branch manager of a public library and was informed yesterday that someone got sick in the bathroom. In trying to start cleaning it up, I still came way too close to getting sick myself! [had to leave the rest to our cleaning crew] I am such a wimp about that sort of thing and was thinking just how wise God was in not giving me children - they'd be in a heap of trouble if they got sick!

Rock on, Moms!

Answer to the QOTD: (I love these, keeps me busy in my office;) )

My Husband and I only bring in a single backpack. It's an Ogio Metroid and it carries our cameras, ponchos, snacks for the kids, a few pieces of extra clothes for them, light coats for us, and a few miscellaneous things. It has a ton of pockets and a neat built in file folder on the large outside pocket to keep maps, plans, paperwork etc. It's big enough to hold everything comfortably but small enough to bring on all the rides (if we need to). The bag is surprisingly light, secure and the best part, water resistant. On our first trip we had two backpacks, a small cooler, and a diaper bag!:rotfl: Oh how times have changed.

QOTD:
KTTW, tickets (if separate), driver's license for identification, mirror, comb, sunglasses (case with regular glasses if I'm not wearing my contacts), cell phone, a few bucks cash.

That's it. D has the smaller camera so she carries that.

I don't know if any of you remember, but my baby sister was supposed to move down to New Orleans the week Gustav hit. I was hoping she wouldn't go, because she's the baby and we are super-protective of her. (Even though is she 24 years old and probably tougher than me & middle sis put together.:lmao: ) Anyhow, she is still moving and just emailed me a picture of her new house. I just wanted to share.... it's a precious house!:cutie:

QOTD:
On our Honeymoon DH carried a "man purse" with water, tickets, ID's, lip gloss (for me) and a camera. This time I will be carrying the "purse" and it will contain the same items.

I'm new too... but welcome! ;)

That is really too cute!

I can't answer the QOTD as I haven't actually BEEN to the parks yet! I never took anything with me to Disneyland (except what would fit in my pockets). I am desperately searching for the perfect park bag now though. I hear a lot of good things about Bagalini (sp?), and they do have the cutest animal prints...

Bella~
Sorry she decided to move to NO!!! But I do like her place!! I love those little gingerbread looking cottage houses!! Are you still planning on bringing the VB Hipster to the parks? I am debating between that and the small backpack. I do have 3 kids!!!! But, even the backpack won't carry our jackets if we have to lug them during the day. I really like the hipster, but.....gotta keep thinking on that one!!!
