I forgot to mention that this is also a surprise Christmas present for my kids as well. I know someone else was doing this too, so how are you planning on letting them know? I thought you could order a phone call from Mickey during the holidays so if it's available I would love to do that. Otherwise, the last gift of Christmas morning will be a box with t-shirts, pins, and info about BBB for girls and light saber building for the boys. I was also going to make one of those paper chains numbered with the daily countdown until we leave for the trip.

I am thinking about wrapping a box for Christmas morning and putting all the Disney shirts and gifts in it and also having some sort of countdown poster inside saying something like - We're Going To Disney In 26 DAYS!!!!

Or you could send them on a scavenger hunt with clues that ultimately leads to the sign...or the big box, etc. Kids love scavenger hunts. It worked like a charm last year for our 3 kids and their Gamecube. Santa wrote little notes with rhymes and clues on each card that finally let them to a wrapped box on our veranda. The kids LOVED it!

Hi Everyone....

Woke up excited this morning. Was able to get a package with deluxe dining and 7 day passes (no extras) with a room at the Contemporary PARK VIEW with a AAA discount!!! I had a Bay Room booked with the same package. There were no AAA discounts for it. Finally touched base with AAA and finally found a great agent and she told me no there are no bay rooms that offer a AAA rate BUT the Park View does....and after she priced it.....it's almost $600 less!!!!!! I'm so excited.

Anyhows....here is our gang DH 41, me (newly 40 lol), DS 14, DD 11, DS 2.


Here are our plans (well mine lol):

Arriving in Disney Jan 26th at night (my son has his exams that day)

Jan 27th (MK - Breakfast at CRT (already booked), Dinner Crystal Palace)
Jan 28th (AK - Breakfast/Tusker, Dinner ???)
Jan 29th (MGM - Breakfast/Hollywood & Vine , Dinner/Mama Melrose)
Jan 30th (Epcot - Breakfast/Norway, Dinner Cellier or Tokyo)
Jan 31st (MK - Breakfast/Crystal Palace, Dinner/CRT already booked)
Feb 1st (leaving Breakfast Chef Mikey or O'hana)


Obviously I haven't been able to book any ADRs other than CRT, but I don't think I'll have a problem with the others.


Ok enough about me....going off to look at airfare.....

The nightly activities at the pool are one of the things that I'm looking forward to. I'm thinking that would be a perfect place to meet, then the kids can socialize or not -whatever they feel comfortable with.

For us "adults", I'm guessing the pool bar is open during that time .

I actually grew up in Allendale, but of course like Grand Haven much better! Felt like GVSU was my home away from home, HS track practices and meets, music lessons, and I worked summers there, too!

We had thought about Michigan's Adventure, too, but we're running out of summer! My DD8 thinks she's going on all the "big" rides at WDW, but has never been on anything bigger than carnival rides! We really have no excuse, as MA is only about 30 minutes away...

Michigander...I feel like a goose! Someone really needs to find a better name for us!

Shelly, I got my Welcome Packet today [and here I had been so jealous that you had gotten one!]. The letter greeted me with the sentence - 'we want you to have the most magical vacation ever -- after all, this is your first trip to the most magical place on earth.' I know they send that to a couple of zillion people every week but I still bought it, hook, line and sinker.

YAY for the welcome packet!!

Yes, Disney really has a way of making you feel special!! Mine says something like- We're really glad you have chosen to return to CBR! We haven't been to CBR since 2005. They are really on top of things!!

According to VZ Navigator it is about 15 1/2 hours from Pittsburgh to Lake Buena Vista, FL. But we are thinking of detouring a bit to Myrtle Beach and see some good friends for a bit.

15 1/2 HOURS!! That's a little bit too much together time for me!! I'll gladly pay the $750 for airfare! (now just praying for no delays! )

We've not had a significant snow in the last couple of years. (Now that I've said that, we're sure to get a couple of feet the day before we are to leave for Disney.

You're right, the last few winters haven't been too bad. And it seems that we get the bulk of the snow in March anymore. Sure hope it stays that way!!

Just got back from swimming lessons and the bank and the grocery store. Now I need to fix lunch and mow the lawn. But I'd rather stay here and talk about Disney all day!

One more day of swimming lessons! I can't believe the kids go back to school in 4 weeks. I am not looking forward to DS6 going to all day school. He had 1/2 day kindergarten last year and I loved him coming home at 11:00am! I am going to be so sad!

The only thing that had me even considering driving from New England (about 22 hours ) was the possibility of planes grounded for snow! But then I got a decent airfare, and sanity returned. I guess we just pray that it's an easy New Years weather-wise!

I confess, Sharadoc, I'm not even sure who all is going with me at this time. The folks, except for me, on my signature are still tentative. I'm giving them til October before I start tightening the screws on them irate:

And, I don't know what pace we'll be going to tour the parks, since most of us have never gone and we'll have a baby with us [maybe?]. As excited as I am right now, I plan to get to the parks before they open, stay til Mickey kicks me out. My pals with the baby will probably take things a little more slowly and the other adults? Who knows! That's why we are taking our cell phones!

However, I know that part of the vacation will be all the cool stuff going on at the resort and I definitely want to take advantage of this. Movies by the pool -- how neat! Is there a way to get a January schedule of this? If so, we can plan to meet at the movies! That's a great idea....

Thanks for the info! My main concern was the 'standing' not really the walking. DS12 can get really bored just standing around waiting for something wonderful to happen....me too I suppose We all are interested in going underground and seeing all the different things. Thanks for the tips DisneyJoo2008!

I'm glad to help and sorry if I have put you off by telling you about the standing - I suppose its best to be prepared! But yes, unfortunately, there was quite a bit of standing whilst the guide told us stuff. The underground tunnels were really cool; they have this "pin replenishment" area where the CMs go to get replacement pins if they trade them! It looked so cool and there were tonnes of pins! There was also a pin 'wall of fame' with loads of different special edition pins etc. from the years gone by (Sorry I am prob. supposed to keep this secret!!!)

Hello Snowbirds!

My TA from AAA just called w/ our package info

We had paid the deposit on the 'room only' until the 2009 prices came out, well.....the TA said that b/c of disney's new computer system, they no longer take the deposit amount you've paid and apply it to your package?? Disney is going to credit our cc the deposit amount we paid and now we have to pay the normal $200 deposit on the package! Does that make any sense at all? I even have a new ressie # too. So now it looks as if we haven't paid anything to disney b/c they are crediting us back. While I was on the phone our TA was talking to Disney, I could hear her! She was saying, "but disney has always applied the room deposit when a guest changes it to a package". The TA was asking all the questions I would have been asking. Has anyone else heard of this happening?

We've just been believing that we'd already paid $600 towards our trip and now disney tells us that we've basically paid nothing and owe them $200 in two weeks. Seems like an awful lot of excess work for disney, OR it seems like our TA was talking to a CM that didn't know how to change the room only to a pkg. Thanks for letting me vent

Splash, I have recently heard this too. The CM I talked to on the phone when I booked my room ressie told me that my deposit would be transferred to the package when I call back to change it to a package. But then I read on the DIS boards (from a CM) that room ressies and package ressies are booked through 2 separate companies. And that my room deposit will be refunded and I will then be charged the $200 deposit for the package when I call to change. And given a new ressie number.

Yes, sounds like a lot of extra work on their part. . .

That makes me feel better. I just don't recall having to do this in the past, and we've had to do the room only for 3 yrs now and then change it to a pkg, but all the $$$ we had paid was applied. On the bright side, and there has to be a bright side this is disney we're talkin

We've offically booked:
7 days/ 6 nights
Wilderness Lodge ~ club level
1 day base tickets
and for the first time ever....the basic dining plan!

BTW, in 2007 we got the AAA discount AND we also got the free upgraded hopper tickets, we didn't have to choose between the two, and the TA just told me that if disney offers that again, she'll book it that way.
