Early Jan is value season, it may be doable but dining isn't free, so you'd have to weigh that. We never do dining, our girls are concidered adults at Disney and we don't spend $150 a day on food. We have a TS daily at around $80 or so, and CS for lunch at <$40, so the DDP isn't worth it to us.

ITA! And with the changes coming to DDP in 2008, it will be of less value to even more of us who may have benefited from it in the past. :guilty:

That explains it, you're going for 3 nights and our reservations are for 7 nights. Just thought I might be missing something! Thanks!

Yep, we are doing 3 nights on site and then 3 nights off as my husband has a conference at the Omni the 21-24th.

Just updated our trip for early Jan. at All Star Sports. Comes out to be $55 a night. Yes, even with FL Ressie room only discounts the weekends are a little higher, but can't beat the average of $55 a night. Traded down from POR to value (X 2 rooms) because we now have six in our party. To bad the family suites were not available.

Good luck to all in your hunt.

3 adults, 2 children that need tickets, 2 that don't- 1 family suite- MYW hoppers- no dining -with code - Jan 3-10. Total cost-2251.91

Wow, these January AP rates are kind of crummy compared to last year. Last year, we booked two standard view rooms at the WL for a week, leaving on January 6th, with an AP rate at $135 before tax. Looks like our annual trip to Disney, which we have taken since 1990 wont be happening this January!

just talked to Disney and if I upgrade to AKL from POR it will be $400 more for the 10 days. I don;t think that is too bad for a deluxe stay. Not sure what to do.
I think I paid $3575 for POR with ddp and 8 hopper and standard room at AKL is $4030
with same options.

That's really weird because I got the upgrade from AKL to POR for nothing... I actually saved $60 -- You might want to call again - Just in case - Maybe another CM will give you different figures.

I personally love AKL, so I would go for it. But I think it really depends on how you think you will spend time on your vacation. Since you are staying for 10 nights, I think you will most likely be more relaxed about how much time you spend in the parks. AKL has lots of activities going on which are free (african music for kids, a culinary tour for the whole family and an arts tour for the grown-ups are just a few examples) and a wonderful pool. It would be a shame to stay there and not take in at least some of the atmosphere of the hotel (besides watching animals from the various lookouts). If you think that you are likely to do that, I would suggest to upgrade. But if you mainly want a nice place to sleep at night, it would not be worth the additional money.

We've been booked at POR for 8 months and just got upgraded to AKL a few days ago. Not the other way around. From a moderate to a deluxe and still saved a few bucks.

well then maybe I will call back and see what she says. I put an email in to my ta at AAA to see what she can do but she is not there till tomrrow.
I wish the internet would let u put in codes.
she said she used code zwy, I believe it is the ddp code with park hopper and waterpark upgrade.

actually, you can check on the internet. Try this: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/special/promo/genericPromoLandingNav?id=Q22007ValuePromoPage

You can reach it from the first page of the official page, on the top there is this advertisement (at the moment three are running) and one is about free upgrades. There is a link which takes you to the page I posted above and oyu can check prizes and availability for the discount code.

you mentioned an AAA travel agent, did you book the POR room with the AAA discount? This might be the reason why AKL is not cheaper than POR for you, it would only be cheaper than POR rack rate, I guess. I did the maths on my AKL reservation and figured out that it is about a 15% discount on the room, so this is more or less the same as AAA as I understand it, so it depends on how much money you save by getting the free pass upgrades! :goodvibes

And if you want something to read about AKL, I can offer my review from last February: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1484743 :goodvibes

yes I booked it through AAA. I will not again. much easier to do it yourself.
I emailed her and will see what happens. POR is nice, deluxe would be nice to try. I will look at your tr and see what u said about AKL.
thanks.

Question?....

I know I am a cheapskate (maybe this should go to the budget board;) ) but we have 2 nights booked (Jan 26 and 26) at Pop. Currently, the ressie is paid in full but it was rack rate. ($189 total for both nights) I have been waiting for a room-only code to come out (I am not an AP holder or AAA member....not worth it for 2 nights:laughing: ) If/when one does come out, what is my best plan of attack? I assume I should try and book a "new" reservation and then once it has been secured, go back and cancel my original. If the $59/night rates come out, it will save me almost $50. It's not a lot, but every little bit helps! I used my Disney Visa Rewards to pay for the room so I will need to add enough to the card to book the new reservation prior to getting the first reservation cancelled.

I have an AP and I found that weekend nights were not discounted, only Sun-Thursday. Weekends were still rack rate for AP's. I would guess a General code would be even worse, not better. I have one night at POP (1/18/08 Friday night) and I am paying rack rate even though I have an AP and AAA.

If you do get lucky and the price drops I believe all you do is call and they will credit your CC back the difference in price when they modify the reservation with the discount. No need to make a new reservation.
