January 15, 2011 - Magic

I'm late in finding this message board so I'll have to miss out on the FE - what above the scavenger hunt, anything going on with that? We may or may not get to the terminal with time to spare - we're driving down from Connecticut and exact plans will depend on the weather forecast. Would my 7yo son be able to participate in the scavenger hunt to pass the time while we wait to board?

We are still waiting for our documents....we are checking our mail daily.

Any word on the plans for the scavenger hunt???

Who's excited....we are finally at the 30 day countdown mark???

No problem - did you get the Private Message I sent via disboards? Look in the upper right where it says welcome, carr4 (to the right of the twitter / facebook logos) - it should say if there is an unread private message or not.

Yes I did thank-you. I will forward all the info as soon as I get it.

popcorn::popcorn::So anyone know what movies, etc. will be playing on our week? Hopefully Tron or Tangled will still be playing!
Less than a month to go!!!

Yeah didn't think of it. We are probably seeing Tron tomorrow but would love to see it in 3-d but won't pay the extra costs. It would be great if it is still playing at the 3-d theater on the Magic. I don't think there are any other major releases planned by Disney between now and then so hopefully it still will be.

So, what were the best things you did - on and off the boat? With less than a month to go, we're planning our excursions and such. While laying on those wonderful wooden deck chairs on Deck 4 is definetely on MY list, what is everyone looking forward to? Best excursion we've had would be the beach at St. John's, especially seeing a double rainbow on the way there. Anyone have out of the way excursions, trips, special stops they're looking for to now that it's almost here?

I really enjoy doing the wine and beer tastings on the boat. Of course, enjoying sitting by the pool, as well, is a favorite past time of mine.

Off the boat, we took an excursion to the aquarium on St Thomas and went to a private beach with some snorkeling after a catamaran ride. I enjoyed the catamaran but the wife was a little scared, especially on the way back when we were going real fast. She was scared for our then 7 year olds but I didnt think it was that bad. The aquarium was ok and we also took a sub ride around the waters of St Thomas at the aquarium. It was ok but probably wouldn't do it again.

We enjoy not having to really do anything - being on the boat has been fairly relaxing for Mom/Dad. Dad isn't too good at sitting still, but somehow even he slows down a bit.

We enjoy the warmth (from WI), kids love to swim and play on the beach. We love snorkeling so we'll do some more of that - have snorkeled at least one of the port days the past two times and haven't ever had a bad experience. We enjoy the shows onboard, will watch a movie or two (didn't see a couple on purpose because we could watch them on the cruise), one of these times we're going to find the buffet on Pirate Night :confused3!, booked Palo Brunch, going to have some Paninis / fruit from Goofy's, maybe a couple tropical drinks :rolleyes1, read a little, deliver FE gifts, maybe ride bikes on Castaway Cay, do a tasting or two? ....who knows what else we'll find - part of the fun is doing whatever we want. :)

I just checked on our flights and it said 24 days... we're going down a couple days early....also just orderd some magnetic paper - something else to work on after Christmas.

Hi Jen and All ~

I'm putting the Scavenger Hunt together so that all ages can participate. Little ones will need adults helping them and the adults will need the kids. :)

I'll put together a list soon of the names I've collected of guests who are interested in participating. Details will follow...

We don't have many shore excursions planned yet. Last time we were in St. Maarten, we took a taxi to the French side to Le Galion Beach which is lovely and not packed. The water is very shallow and protected so it's great for little kids particularly. Not far from the protected area, you can rent all sorts of watercraft and sailing equipment and play around in the rougher, non-reef area. We saw horses over there as well. We rented chairs and umbrella near a nice, clean restaurant. It was great.

I'm just looking forward to getting on the ship - that's always my favorite destination. Hope your planning is going well.

Enjoy the holidays!

Sharon

Thanks Sharon, Galion Beach sounds like it might be worth checking out! That's not a nude beach, is it? some discussions I'm just not ready to have with the kids yet!

Hi Jen ~

No, Le Galion isn't a nude beach...at least we didn't see any one running around naked. :) It's a very family-oriented place, at least it seemed that way when we visited.

I did get sunburned there - on one foot and part of my leg that were out of the shade for a short while and I had slathered on sunscreen so make sure you have LOTS of protection while you're there. My one red foot/leg made for hysterical pictures at the post office on Castaway Cay with Donald Duck.

We've been kicking around these two beaches as options for our day in St Maarten. For those repeat Eastern Carribean cruisers amongst us, any preference of one over the other? Based on my search of the main DCL forum, they both seem to be family-friendly beaches. We did Orient Beach last year and the surf was a bit rougher than we might prefer.

Three weeks and counting...getting very excited right about now.

Happy holidays everyone!

Just letting those participating in the Fish Extender group know that I sent out an e-mail with information / deck plans earlier today. If you are participating and didn't get the e-mail let me know.

Need to get ready for :santa:, then we'll need to start getting ready for the trip (in 21 days at this time, we should have landed in Orlando, picked up the rental car and be close to checking into our pre-cruise hotel :woohoo:)!

Well, I haven't seen anything about Friars Beach- but both Le Galion and Pinel Island look good for us (with little kids). Any input? ANybody know if you can rent jet skis at either one, the guys want to do that too?

I'm not able to post links yet, but there's a good website that describes all of the major beaches on St. Maarten:

sint-maarten dot net

That being said, this site does not make any mention of jet skis at either Pinel or Le Galion. I don't know if that means there isn't any or they just didn't mention it. Pinel does sound like fun though.

Merry Christmas to everyone....21 days to go...3 weeks...yes...we are getting real close

Merry Christmas to all. Has anyone come across recent Personal Avigators, fitness and/ or spa listings?
