My 2 seem to ONLY want this bag for back to school. I know it is a while yet, but I try to get the major purchases out of the way, like bags. The rest is small pittance to me.

I have not done much research yet. I just got an idea of the cost on ebay and such before I head to my mall to check it out there.

I do believe they are Guaranteed? This would be wonderful. I just wondered what you all have thought of them, have they been sturdy? Withstood a few knocks, or just your average bag?

TIA

I used the same Jansport backpack all the way through high school and college. In fact in my day, Jansport was THE cool backpack to carry. Mine was definitely worn out by the time I graduated, but I was so sick of it by then I was ready to chuck the thing anyway. ;)

Jansport has been around forever and they do offer a lifetime warranty; although it's just for defects in parts or workmanship, it doesn't cover accidents or wear and tear (which is what did my backpack in).

The tough part when it comes to shopping, especially online, is that they offer a lot of different lines and price points, and I've found that some of their backpacks seem to be much sturdier than others.

Good Luck with the search. :thumbsup2

My Jansport has lasted through 4 years of college (think outdoors in EVERY type of weather imaginable), a year and a half of grad school, and 5 Disney trips. It's still going strong. It doesn't look as good as it did when I bought it, but it's still in pretty good shape. I think I got it at JC Penny's for about $20 on sale in '05.

I had a red Jansport all through high school, college and beyond. My oldest just graduated from high school, still has the Jansport he got at the beginning of his freshman year and will use it into college. It is still in great shape. It is worth every penny.

My kids used the Jansport backpacks for school and have also used them on vacation. They were definitely worth it. You can get them on sale at JCPennys or Modells.

I still have my Jansport from my senior year of high school('97) It also lasted through college(big heavy books) and I use it to this day for outings. It is in excellent condition and after 13 years of use, it has paid for itself many times over. I wouldn't recommend any other brand!

I got my ds a Jansport a couple years ago and the strap ripped. I have no idea if they are guaranteed, I didn't try to replace it because I didn't like the model we got (it did not have a padded back). I went with one from LLBean, great quality and guaranteed.

Find the type of Jansport that they like and then check out ebags.com -- we've had great luck finding their backpacks on sale.

I've also been very pleased with my Jansports. I have had 2 or 3 over the last 15 years or so. My first one needed the zipper replaced after awhile; I was able to mail it to them and they replaced the zippers for free (I only paid the cost of shipping, which for an empty backpack is not much).

I got a trans Jansport backpack last year for school from Target. It was pretty cheap (somewhere around $15, if not less) and it's still in good condition. I'm just not going to use it next year because it got a little faded color-wise.

I got my kids at Target last year and they were very reasonable and have held up great!

Hey, welcome back. I've been watching for you on the other board.

There is an actual "factory" store near my house. The pickin's are pretty slim, but my dd can always manage to find a new back pack there. Throughout my kids lives, we always got them a Jansport back pack, because they are made in Wisconsin and we could always pick them up fairly cheap.

I don't think I have ever thrown any away. If I do, it is because I can't stand looking at it anymore. Plus you can throw them in the wash machine and line dry them.

You can get a great deal on them from Kohl's. Wait till a weekend if you want to get one online, use a online code for 30% off, plus they mark them down and you can get a sweet backpack.

I don't suppose they have a model that comes with an automatic "snack remains ejector"? That seems to be the downfall of my DD's backpacks every year!

She's been mentioning the Jansport, hoping to have one to start High School with... I told her only if I can find one on a good sale. :thumbsup2

I remember as a kid I had a jansport backpack. The zipper broke so my mom sent it to be fixed (free) at the end of the school year. I was in 3rd grade or so? I got a postcard from my backpack that he was having a lot of fun at Summer Camp and came in 1st place in the Zipper Races. I got a kick out of it.

I have had the same Jansport for 20 years. I bought it for snow skiing so it's been through a lot of snow and rain, used it as a purse for many years and now use it while on vacation. It still looks new.

Love Jansport, worth every penny. We bought one for DD in 7th grade, I think we paid about $30 at Target. It's a larger canvas one which came in helpful once she got into high school. She didn't use her loccer so every book went into it.

She used (and abused) it through her Senior year. It has a small hole in the bottom now from being thrown on the ground so often, but still looks new.

I just threw away my Jansport, that I got when I started college in fall 1991 . :thumbsup2 Only reason I threw it away is my 21 year old must have put food in it or his socks lol and it SMELLED awful. I didn't even try to clean it.

My DS7 has one he has been using for almost 4 years. Still looks great.

I've had at least 5 Jansports... because we always got a new backpack every year in Jr high/HS. I did use the one from my Sr year all through college (well along with some "purse bags" that were in vogue while in college).

They pretty much all look brand new, maybe a little bit dirty, but they are sturdy as all get out.
