Thanks for the link Dan. I submitted my comment. Why do networks feel so desperate? It seems that they think entertainment HAS to be SEXed up to get the ratings. Were they thinking they could compete with those pay per view ladies in underwear football team (whatever it is called... ) by having 40- year- old Janet peek-a-boob???

No, actually it wouldn't be a big deal, IF it weren't a show that children are watching, IF there had been some kind of an advisory put out, IF my son hadn't been sitting there watching a singer he likes rip the top off of a girl, IF she had ripped it off herself so it wouldn't have looked like a sexual assault in progress. IF you are a parent, it should bother you. IF not, I can see why you wouldn't understand.

It's not the nudity that's disturbing so much as the shock and violence aspects of the stunt that are objectionable. Perhaps on MTV this would not be surprising, but on a major network during a "wholesome" sporting event during primetime it is out of line.

According to Drudge the CBS brass okayed it earlier in the week. They knew about it and knew the extent of the "uncoverage" and gave their okay. I find it interesting now that there is so much outrage that they are saying that they knew nothing about it.
I will be interested to see how many of my Jr high boys saw it because I know they will comment on it tomorrow at school. I'm sure people will say that stuff like that happens all the time on MTV but this was network television during what is left of "family" hour.

Hey, I'm all for Janet's breasts, but I wasn't prepared to share the moment with my 2 sons (9 and 12). They don't miss a beat and when Justin ripped her shirt off, they both immediately looked at me to see my reaction. I just shook my head. My 9 year old finally said, "That was stupid.". I told him he was right.

What's next? Stripping at the Olympic opening ceremonies?

Fortunately for me, I missed it, as I wasn't impressed with the opening of Janet Jackson's act, so I walked away. DH never said a word, and I didn't find out about it until I saw it on here. If I had children watching I would have been extremely upset. This world is just getting worse and worse as far as self respect and morals go. What's next???

I thought it was stupid and inappropriate for the superbowl half-time show...but I guess Janet Jackson needs something to get her on the cover of magazines and back into the media spotlight....

I miss the days when singers were celebrated for their vocal abilities and not just provocative stage performance...and I am only 37...

We were also at a suerbowl party, and could NOT believe what we all saw. I was thinking just before the breast was exposed that the routine between Justin and Janet was pretty SEXual. I was pretty disgusted by they way they were dancing, but when the breast was exposed....come on!!! I happened to be sitting next to an 8 y.o. boy who did not know what to say. Everyone at the party just sat there looking at the TV without saying a thing. None of us were sure what we had seen. Thanks to the DIS, it was what we all had thought! Oh boy, I am glad my kids are too young to understand what was going on! Way to go CBS, AOL and MTV!!!

I don't think she can be right since we have differing opinions...and neither one of us has any right to say we are truly correct now do we?

I do have a young boy and another ont he way and maybe it's because I'm 25... but I saw nothing wrong with what happened. they are preformers preforming... I never once sat there and said to myself wow that looked like the begininning of the rape process...and since I havve been date raped myself I think I can say that with a clear concious.

Get over it, it's not that big of a deal. It was nice and entertaining, and if that's the worst thing your kids ever see then you have disserviced your kids b/c when they get out in the real world they'll be offended by many things everyday.

There are much more important things to worry about, like why the Pats won

I was at party with a bunch of other college age students (19-28) and all of us were shocked. Half of us were drunk and the other half on the way there and still everyone thought that it was way too much for a halftime show that over a billion people are watching. Kinda sad what it's come too.

Yeah, in the scheme of things, it isn't a huge deal.

But, for me, the problem is that every time they go a bit over the line, it just becomes ok (even profitable) to go even further over the line the next time...that's great for adult entertainment. But, the Superbowl is marketed as family entertainment. How about the next Superbowl...how will they top this? ...and you can't tell me the entertainers won't try......

All I can say is...if there is going to be nudity...there should be a parental advisory.

Fortunately my 2 DSs (ages 15 and 12) had just left the family room and did not see that. They are SO not interested in Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson anyway; DSs actually have good taste in music

While I find it unacceptable, offensive, and view it as abuse against women in general, it does not surprise me. This world has been going downhill fast, especially in the last 10 years, and it's going to get worse before it gets better.

I fail to see how the world is getting worse faster? Crime is down, literacy is up, people are living longer, there are fewer abortions, more people than ever attend college, there is a new generation of patriotic Americans, civil rights have improved, the list goes on. Things are definetly getting better.

Only in this country is the bare breast a problem. Women get all kinds of flack for breast feeding in public, gentlemen's clubs (where the bare breast shouldn't be an issue) in some areas aren't allowed to show the entire breast, a boob pops out (with the most offensive area covered) during a performance and everyone gets all riled up. Experience another culture in other countries and you will see bare chested women on the backs of newspapers and in advertisements(not porn). Children are only going to think it's a big deal if Mom and Dad make it a big deal. Then they are going to be more interested in it than if it wasn't made into a big deal.

Personally I didn't think it was that big of a deal. I have seen worse on CSI and JAG that DH watches all the time.

I also think that all the complaints or applause is just what EVERYONE wanted...its all about publicity and its all about just how much this can be talked about. The only way to have made a difference would have been to just ignore it.
No comments would have meant no money, no shock value, nothing. They have gotten just exactly what they wanted. It was the same with Brittney and Madonna. Justin's song says "And I'll have your clothes off by the end of this song." Thats what it was about, not rape or abuse.

I say if kids were watching its a good opportunity to tell them why it was in bad taste....which by the way I do think it was in bad taste I just have seen worse on public TV. Even though it was in bad taste I still love Justin though.
