DAY 1 - Getting to the airport
We spent the days before we left for Florida mostly going up and down motor-ways, my mum lives about an hour and a half from us now and she was storing all of the wedding stuff so we had to go there to pick things up that she didn't have room for in her cases. My bother also lives an hour from us in the other direction from my mum and we had to pick up my niece and have her with us she was on my mums booking, so we needed her there to check in.
Because of the distances from the airport we decided to stay at the Hilton hotel the night before this meant we could check into the flight the night before and check in all the cases. I was worried about this as my dress had to be put in the hold but I'm pleased to say it got there safely and in one piece.
PROBLEM 1 - How many bags, you won't get into my cab!!
We had booked a cab weeks in advance to take us to the airport. To save money they advised us to book a big people carrier, I told them how many cases we had and they told us it would be fine and agreed a price. I was expecting a van type vehicle to pick us us but they sent a normal size people carrier for five people and eight cases. When the driver turned up and saw this
he said there was no way he could take us. I kindly told him it was our wedding trip and he needed to sort this problem out and that we wasn't prepared to pay extra as they had told us they could get us to the airport with no problems. He quickly got on the phone we had to do a bit of a deal in the end but they sent us another car for an extra £20 which I was happy with because it should have been an extra £60. And they also agreed to keep that deal for the return trip.
We finally got to the airport and checked in and I prayed that my wedding dress would get there safely and not go on the missing list. Before we had left for the airport I had discovered that Virgin had reassigned our seats on the plane and we would all be sitting apart. I really wanted us sitting together that day as it was my step-dads birthday so I must admit I played the wedding card again and the lady was really nice and was able to put us all together.
We then booked into the Hilton and got talking to the man behind the desk for a while my niece mentioned that my name would be different in a few days and he asked why and she told them we was getting married. As a present they sent some Champagne to our room. Through choice I don't drink but everyone else enjoyed it.
We then went off to find some dinner it was at this point we discovered the following problem
PROBLEM 2 - My mum forgot to pack my vail!
We were talking about how I wanted my hair and I asked my mum where did she pack it and she then remembered that she had left it at home. Now let me just let you all know I am a born worrier and I worry and stress about everything but I was very calm about this problem. I think the fact that my mum was nearly in tears helped me keep calm, I told her not to worry and we rang Carolyn Allen's from the airport and booked an appointment for Saturday morning. I didn't tell my mum but they told me they only had a few ivory ones in the shop this fact alone made me have a sleepless night!
DAY 2 - Florida here we come!
After my very sleepless night we all got up and got ready to make our way to the departure gate but we had one thing we needed to do first. I had a spare padlock for the cases and my brother wanted it but he wasn't getting to the airport until the morning so we said we would meet them at the Virgin desks. Well the airport was a nightmare it was the first day of the summer holidays and the place was rammed. This started me stressing! I love my brother to pieces but as a family that aren't very organized and I hold told them quite a few times they needed to give themselves at least three hours to get through the the airport checks etc, it was 8.30 am and they still wasn't there and the queue for the Virgin flights was miles long! My mum started to stress at me as she didn't want there to be any tension at the start of the holiday so she went off to try and find them. They found them in the end and we gave them the padlock, we went through security to have breakfast whilst they waited in the very long queue. All I can say is Virgin twilight check in is a blessing as they were in the queue for ages and it only took us ten minutes to check in the night before.
Finally they got through to the departure lounges
After the long fight we finally got to Orlando in one piece but we did nearly all kill each other in the airport as it all got a bit confusing with our cases and where they were sent. The thing that helped calm the situation was the fact that I had hired us some limos to pick us up as part of my dads birthday treats and that made everyone happy as it was a surprise for everyone.
We had a lovely air conditioned ride to the Port Orleans French Quarter and checked in really quickly. I asked if we could all be in the same building and they were able to put all our rooms together. Not quite what you want on your honeymoon but it was really helpful during the holiday.
We had a quick look around the hotel and then made our way to downtown disney for some dinner and some shopping as I wanted to get a few wedding thank you gifts.
COMING UP - How long did it take us to walk down Main Street and my dad's birthday meal
