I am planning a week long Mom and Son Getaway for Jan 22-28. I understand there is a cruise leaving on 23-30, because of this do you think it will still be normal Januray crowds during that time? I have never done this long of trip, so I am hoping to make the most of it.

I was hoping that because I was there when they were gone I would miss some crowds (even though crowds are normally light).

Thoughts?

Not less crowded, but I imagine there will be an increase before and after the cruise of people doing like a land and sea?

I am hoping there will be no effect and crowds will be normal....

I think it will be pretty minimal. Keep in mind that the ship holds about %5 of the total visitors to DLR on slow days. What I have read on the cruise boards only a handful of the cruisers are looking to add a park visit. Most are concerned about satying near the port and how to get to LAX.

The Cruise Terminal is quite a ways from Disneyland - 30-40 minutes, I think? - so it's not like they can easily pop over to DL from there. As skiingfast pointed out, even if EVERYONE on the cruise decided to go, the number of passengers on the ship as opposed to the normal attendance at DL is a pretty small percentage. I wouldn't worry about it.

I think you'll find that mid-week in January at DL will be very quiet, with minimal lines for the attractions. But you should also be prepared for a number of attractions will be down, because the off-season is typically when they try to schedule maintenance. Haunted Mansion MIGHT be back up after the holiday overlay removal by then, but small world will almost certainly be down. We won't know what else is on the rehab schedule until they post it to the calendar, which should be in December.
