We will be down at the Fort the last weekend of January, first week of February and would like to know if the bugs are bad? Will we need a screen room?

I don't think that you ever need a screen room at the Fort, any time of year.

The insect activity is definitely at a minimum in January and February.

Was just there this last January 2009 and had no problems with bugs. We brought bug spray just in case, but never needed it. Happy camping.

Thank you!

Does anyone know about the weather? Looks like 50 to 70s

weather.com does a good job of showing average monthly temperatures. It was right on for most of our trip except when a cold-front came in the last couple days of our trip and the weather got a little colder than normal.

Enjoy!

Thank you!

There is a lot of variation in the weather in Jan. and Feb.

It can sometimes get cold. Real cold. Like freezing.

It can sometimes be in the 80's.

And that fluctuation could happen all in the same week.

But, that being said, we almost always camp on MLK and President's Day weekends, and the weather is almost always perfect camping weather. This past President's Day weekend (2009), we barely needed jackets. In 2007, (if I recall correctly), we had a freeze warning.

Only problem I have ever seen with bugs was Mem Day weekend. Last year there were alot of fruit flies. If you don't know what these are they bite.

The fort is the only cg in florida that doesn't have bugs in the summer time. If you go to most state or county parks in the summer, the mosquitos and no see'um will eat you up. Us floridians hardly even go out in the yard at night as mosquitos will carry you away.

So the fort is the only gc i go to in the summer months. Hardly ever see a mosquito there anytime of year. Jan and Feb you won't see any bugs at the fort. disney doesn't allow them.

Now with all the cut backs they may cut back on insect control also.

We go every year during the latter end of January or first week of Feb. Over the years, we've seen everything from t-shirts and shorts to freezing weather. This past year in Jan, we hit some really (really) cold weather and we had to bundle up. :scared1: Be prepared for everything but most often expect mostly mild weather. :woohoo:

One word of advice, just in case, make sure your propane tank is full when you enter FW if you have a motorhome with an installed tank, you can't get propane refills for it. You'd have to leave the park to get a refill.

If you have a trailer with removable tanks, you're okay.

I almost ran out of propane one year during a real cold spell.

All in all, this time frame is our favorite time to go. :thumbsup2

Best Regards!

Our furnace has been busted for two years. A couple nights each year of our Christmas/New Years trips we used a couple small electric heaters and did fine. Also used the A/C more.:happytv:

Our furnace got a workout the last few days of our late January 2009 trip. Never needed an AC {don't have one :sad1: } but since we were coming from the grips of a very cold Ohio winter, just about any weather above 40 degrees was shorts and t-shirt weather for us.

retired and happy, I'm very jealous of your travelled state map in your signature. I hope to be that well travelled with our pop-up some day.
