Hi! I'm hoping you experienced pros can help me out a smidge.
I am eagerly awaiting the release of 2017 dates this summer and plan to go end of January into February. I hope to take advantage of the PS&D discount that Disney has offered for the past couple of years and releases near October.
In order to do this, if I have my agent book our room as soon as they come out, do I book the whole package and just not pay it in its entirety or do I just book the room and add the package once the PS&D discount is released?
I just want to make sure I do this right so I can take advantage of the discount if it becomes available. Thank you!!

If you know you want a package, I'd book that from the beginning. If you book RO and change to a package later, the RO will have to be cancelled/refunded and a package booked, requiring a new deposit of $200. Since RO and packages are different reservation systems, money paid toward one cannot be applied to the other. Also, keep in mind that if a discount comes out, what you have booked must be available under that discount in order to have it applied to your existing reservation. With that said, if you will go regardless of whether or not a discount comes out, I'd book as soon as the 2017 rates are released so you get exactly what you want. However, if your trip is dependent on a discount, I'd wait to see what (if any) discounts come out for your dates as having a reservation already in place does not guarantee a discount can be applied. HTH :).

Thank you Mickeynut1, that was tremendously helpful. I just dot pay off the balance entirely, so that way I can make changes, right? That's how I understand it.
Thank you again!

You're welcome! You can pay just a portion and leave a balance or you can pay it in full, either way works. You can still have a discount applied if your reservation is paid in full as a credit in the amount of the discount would be applied to the cc (or whatever payment) you used :goodvibes.

I did that this year. I actually booked a package in May before the prices came out, got the prices in June, got the discount in October, got to travel the end of January!!
