Hi all, happy spring!

We were just thinking today about going to Disney in January, but a friend said that tthey usually have some big band or cheerleading competitions that draw LOADs of people. Any truths about this, or dates when things are happening / to avoid?

Thanks in advance!

I was there MLK weekend and there was a cheerleading competition going on, plus I think some sort of elementary school age soccer tourney. We went over to DHS twice and other than seeing the cheerleaders, there weren't that many people. Indiana Jones was closed because that's where they have the cheerleaders competeing.

A lot of Brazilian tour groups and the Lotusphere confererence over at Swan/Dolphin.

I rode Soarin twice in a 2hr period with FP and that was before lunch. So I would consider that a non-busy time.

AK was packed on that Sunday, but I put that to the late EMH at MK that night.

The cheerleaders really are only a problem if you are staying at a value resort since that is where most of them stay. The parks are really uncrowded during this time. I doubt you will notice the cheerleaders at all. We have gone during this time and had a great time with low crowds.

The other weekend that might be busy is the marathon weekend that is Jan 10th/11th in 2009. The parks aren't packed like at major holidays and summer, but the more popular rides can have longer lines. We last went for the marathon in 2007 and that was the busiest we had ever seen it (compared to past marathon weekends).
