This will be our first trip to WDW as a couple and we're stoked! We made reseverations about a week ago, and we'll be tenting 1/19/08-1/26/08. I've requested the 1500 loop as it seems most convenient. While we camp frequently, have never been camping in Jan in florida. I'm guessing we'll bring a space heater and with the raised air matresses we should be ok. We prefer cooler weather for camping, and besides, Florida winters are nothing like they are up here. But anyway............ Is the 1500 the better choice for a tent site (there's just 2 of us)? On our first half day there should we do Downtown Disney, the Boardwalk, or Magic Kingdom? Sorry for spelling them out, I'm sill learing the abbreviations.....any help is greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you already have a good handle on things. We stay in an RV every January at FW. It can get cold. It can also be very warm. Pack for both possibilities. Either Downtown Disney or Boardwalk would be good for a half day. Our favorite way to get to Downtown is to drive to Port Orleans, then take a fairly long, pleasant boat ride from there. Here's hoping you (and we) have great weather.

We have spent a week in January each year for the past 7 years and love it! The 1500 is great for tent campers and very convenient to the trading post. Temperatures vary a bit but expect the lows in the upper 40's to upper 50's at night. A space heater will serve you well to take the chill out. The 1500 loop is a 10-15 minute walk from Pioneer Hall too. Have Fun!

We love the 1500 loop for it's location but have stayed at the 2000 loop and like it, too.

Will you have annual passes or length of stay passes? If you have either of those, I'd go to the Magic Kingdom first, I don't think I could wait; especially if you're there for the first time together. If going to the Magic Kingdom would use one day's pass, then I'd wait and go for Downtown Disney that first afternoon.

That time of year is a really great time to be there!

Nice loop they just refurbished it not too long ago I think its right near the bridge over the water!!!!!!

Just so long as it is not a "bridge over troubled water". ;)

I love the 1500 loop and will miss it now that we are not in a tent or popup anymore. It is small and quiet. You can walk right over the bridge to the pool, no bus ride back in wet swimsuits.

We've been camping a few times at the Fort in January, and chances are you should be fine with a space heater. There is always a chance it could get really cold, but you should be alright. We're currently planning a trip in January at the Fort, it's a great time to be there if you like low crowds!

If you're only there for a half day on your first day, I would choose either the Boardwalk or Downtown Disney (unless you can get your fill of the MK during a half day). The Boardwalk won't take up as much time as Downtown Disney, you can easily spend an entire half day in Downtown Disney.

And if you're planning on taking the boats to cross the lake at Downtown Disney, make sure you bring a jacket. It's not nearly as bad as trying to cross Bay Lake (the lake near the Fort/Contemporary/Magic Kingdom), but it can still get quite chilly ;)

Does anyone know of any discount codes for January 2008?

Hi BarleyJack,,,
I will be at the "Fort" arriving January23,2008 and departing Febuary1,2008...Maybe we can meet at "Trails End" Resterant/Bar some night and have a drink. Its located right next door to the Hoop-De-Do dinner show at the Fort...

Mike T.

I will be in the 100 to 500 loops depending on what Disney assigns to me....P/S for whats its worth,I can always be found by looking for the 3'tall very pink-120volt rope lighted Flamingo with a 50th golden anniversary Mickey Mouse Hat on its head...

We're also going to FW for the first time in January--- Jan 1 - Jan 6. We're staying in loop 200. Can't wait!

January is our favorite month at the Fort; we stay from the second until YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW (unless you're retired.) A space heater should be plenty.

Always, always do the MK first; I think it's the LAW!

We will be at the fort from Jan. 11th - 24th, tent camping and we requested the 1500 loop! We are so excited (2 adults and 3 children)! We will be the family that is swimming despite the cold weather!!

We'll be at the Fort January 26 - February 6. We went in 2006 on January 21 and by the time we got to Jacksonville, my truck thermometer said the outside air was 82 degrees! It was raining and cold back in Raleigh.:rotfl2:

We had to run the AC in the travel trailer the first 3 days and then it cooled just enough we really didn't run anything. Maybe a sweatshirt in the morning but every day that week, it was shorts and t-shirts.:thumbsup2

By the way, we have annual passes starting for this trip and plan to go again in Jan. 2009 before they run out. It's a great time to go but don't tell anybody. The crowds are very light.:cool1:

We'll be there January 6-13. I requested a pet loop. This will be Jack the Shih Tzu's first trip to Ft. Wilderness. Can't wait!

Jennifer
