Jan 05 AP rates worse than last year

Wow, we used to get 40% off of rack rates with an AP during value season, this year its more like 20-25% for late Jan. 05, what happened? Hard to believe its due to increased attendance because there is availability for AP rates at all resorts I checked for me and one other couple that is going. What the heck gives?

Rates I was quoted below for late Jan (not blackout or holiday times):
GF Garden view - $288 per night
GF Lagoon - $356
Poly Garden - $238
Poly Lagoon - $345 ($107 more per night just for lagoon????, whats up with this?)
AKL Savannah - $278

Anyone else do better?

Your rates are much different than the ones on mousesavers.com - Did you mention one of the discount codes? Here is an excerpt from their site:

Annual Passholder January-February 2005 Room-Only Discount Code

WDW Annual Passholders can ask for Code EWV and get special discounted rates at select Walt Disney World resorts for check-ins 1/2/05-2/16/05. Discounts will be extremely limited or nonexistent for check-ins 1/14/05-1/16/05, 2/3/05-2/5/05 and 2/10/05-2/12/05. Some sample rates:

Jerbroni, the rates sound the same (not incl AKL) with the difference being that mousesavers prob isnt including 13% tax .. ouch. I specified both the postcard rate and AP rate, whichever is cheaper

I would love to hear if anyone got better rates and how?

That is the rate I got! GF Garden View for Jan. - $259 per night (not including tax.) I suppose with tax it is $288.

Yikes!! Thankfully, we are only going for the weekend!

I am going the last week of January.
I was quoted the rates stated above (Moderates -$79.00, WL-$109.00 CR $153.00 & Poly- $210.00) with AP PLan.

I think the higher prices did not take AP rate into account.

Ah, yes. I was only looking at the AKL Savannah rate as a comparison, which is over $100/night cheaper when using the room only AP code.

We were quoted the $151 rate for AKL Savannah view for mid-January, but decided to use DVC points at VWL instead.

One reason Disney is discounting less is that the US travel industry as a whole has really picked up. With Dubya and his economic geniuses running things, the very weak US Dollar has led to a big surge in tourism from abroad, as well as us domestic folks getting priced out of overseas destinations and heading to WDW instead.
Higher demand leads to higher prices, and fewer discounts. So while I'm pleased to see less discounting as a Disney stockholder, I am less pleased to see it as an AP holder.

I'm not seeing any less of a discount than last year with the mods and values. I just made an ap ressie for January yesterday (and had my choice of rooms..and I'm coming during MLK weekend..that surprised me) and it's the same as last years. I think things are still not so good for Disney. I have the stock, but I'd still rather see filled rooms, and if they have to discount them to get them..they have my permission

POP rate of $49 was the same we got last year in January. This year we are staying Savannah View for the $151 before tax. Our Poly rate is about the same as you were quoted (can't remember exactly)

What Disney is doing now with ALL discounts, not just AP rates, is discounting a straight $$$ off each resort category and then the % off goes down depending on what resort and category you book. They did used to do a straight 40% off, but they have stopped doing this. Usually the cheapest room in each resort category and discounting that about 40% off. That $$$ off is then given to all resorts/views in that category, so the $$$ off might be 40% off WL standard view, but is usually around 25% off any GF rooms.

We got AKL for part of our stay for $151 a night. We are staying at the Dolphin for the other part of the trip. I do know that availability for our time frame was scarce this year. I called the first morning AP rates were out and could find nothing but CBR for all of our nights except suites at YC, AKL & WL which were way out of our price range. I called every week to see if anything has become available for all of our nights but have found nothing. So I guess we will be spliting our stay even though it is not something I really want to do. But, hey I am at Disney and I am never unhappy at the House of Mouse!

That $267 per night I stated in the original post was for AKL DELUXE savannah, hence I believe the price difference. Clearly AP discounts are much less than last year for deluxe resorts. oh well

Bookings and attendance are up at WDW and the discounts are lack of, will reflect that.

Values, moderates, WL, AKL and Contemporary seem to be the same rates as Jan '04. But, the more expensive Deluxes are higher in Jan '05.

I got $210 + tax for 1/29-2/5 for the Poly GV. Then I added one night and the daily price was $12 higher.

We'll be at WDW Jan 9th-Jan 15th and got courtyard view at WL for $149.00/night and AKL Savanna view for $151.00/night using the AP code EWV.

just for reference i have a CR tower room booked for 1/22 and it is $284 inc. tax with the AP rate.

Our AKL Concierge rate is, I think, $435 and that is with the discount. The AP was $10 less than the discount code. I was really thinking it would drop to around $250......I'm disappointed. This is for mid January.
