Jamie Lynn Spears - 16 and Pregnant

What about girls even younger, say 9 & 10 yr olds who who are fans, how do you explain to them that "Zoey" is pregnant!?
Actually, I think this is pretty simple. Tell them that she had unprotected sex and that sex leads to pregnancy. If they don't know this already, they SHOULD.* This is a great teachable moment to start letting them acquire the knowledge that unprotected sex leads to pregnancy. I would also tell them that her tv show is cancelled and that she has a hard road ahead of her. I would use this as an opportunity to tell my children that being pregnant at 16 is a very bad life choice.

*When dd was 11 I was at her middle school and overhead a conversation between two 11 year olds in which one was saying that her boyfriend (also 11) was pressuring her to have sex and she didn't want to -- one reason being that she didn't want to get pregnant and she would since neither of them have enough money to buy condoms. Her 'friend' told her not to worry about it bec if she got pregnant her mom would just take care of it for her. They were 11.

Im sure what she has "saved up" will last her awhile.. If she doesn't turn into a lush like her sister and turns things around she will be back to work.. maybe not for nickelodeon but no reason why she wont get other jobs.

I am sure what she has saved up will last her too, but for how long? She is not nearly as successful and pulling the paycheck that her big sis did, so hopefully her sis might chip in. As for getting another job, I agree with you that she will probably get another job someday, I should have typed that, I just mean that she probably won't be able to work while she is pregnant.

By the way, can someone please tell me what her tv show was about? Did she sing, or just act? I have never seen it so I have no idea. I am just thinking, that I am sure Brittney pulled some strings to get her in with the network, (as most famous family members do for their siblings) now that this happens, I don't think they would want her associated with them for the sake of their target audience. So what do you think will happen to her now? Will there really be a high demand for her considering all the other young actors out there, now that she has marred her reputation? Honestly, I think with Brittney's actions, and now this, the Spears name is just going down the tubes in Hollywood. You have to remember, Hollywood is all about typecasting it's actors, and a lot of times, it is hard for actors to battle back from mistakes they made in the past. Some things in the public's eye soil's a persons reputation forever. Not saying this is right, it is just something that does happen.

Hmmm unless she turns into a glorious actress I doubt she will get more work. She is another child actor who made bad choices and will end up on a TV special 10 years from now asking where she is. She won't be marketable to tweens now as she sets a poor example and she isn't old enough to take on adult roles. Really, she is most likely screwed...in more than one way now.

I'm sorry, but there is NO excuse for a young teenager to have a child, it's called birth control.

Teen pregnancy doesn't have to happen, it 100% preventable.

I agree 100% but there is such a thing called ACCIDENTS! If she was on birth control it is not 100% effective. And so that could have been the case.

I can not believe that people bring forth judgement that she wanted a baby.. Accidents will and can happen. It is no one's fault just an accident on judgment. I do not think that she wanted to have a baby at 16 and follow in her sister's footsteps.

Wait -- her mom says she never missed curfew...yet she was living with her boyfriend? At 16? They must think their girls are so grown-up.

I certainly wasn't having sex at 16. She shouldn't be allowed on any children's networks. What a loser.

Oh, I get it -- she was just a passive victim of circumstances beyond her control? So, I see it now -- She stepped off the curb into a crosswalk when the light said to walk and the pregnancy bus ran a light and hit her?

No. She chose to have sex. Sex leads to pregnancy, if it is unprotected. She chose to engage in risky behaviors and now she has the consequences of it.

Ummm...Even protected sex can lead to pregnancy.
Condoms can get holes or breaks in them. Any other form of birth control is not 100% fool proof. The only 100% fool proof method is abstinance. But, condoms and other bc can significantly reduce the chance of pregnancy.

On a side note: my niece got pregnant when she was 15. Had that child at 16. Then got pregnant again at 19, had those twins at 20. She now has none of them living with her.

Who knows, Nickeloden may keep her because her ratings will now sky rocket with everyone wanting to see what she's all about.

Look at Vanessa Hudgens, Disney kept her after the nude pictures surfaced and I just saw her on TV recently singing at the White House. Go figure! Some kids may think, "Wow, If I take nude pictures of myself, maybe I'll get to meet the president. Cool!"

I just don't understand why a 16 year old would want to have a baby in the first place? Why would you want all that responsibility at 16? I am just suprised that she would throw her career with Nickelodean away for something that she has all the time in the world for later on.

So what are you saying...she should have just quietly gone away and had an abortion to save her career?

As for not having a job or not being able to work...the girl has been working since she was about 9 or 10. She has probably earned more money already than I will in my entire life. I would imagine that large percentage of that income has been invested in a trust fund until she becomes an adult. I think there are laws about that for child actors, actually.

A lot of people raise children with much fewer resources than Ms. Spears undoubtedly has at her disposal. Being "financially responsible" is probably the last thing she needs to worry about right now.

For everyone talking about Lynn Spears, I have a couple of comments:

ASAIK, Britney did not seem to have any problems when she lived with her parents. Her road down to the train wreck her life has become began as an adult, AFTER she moved out on her own. All I knew about Britney Spears as a teenager was that she was a beautiful, talented young woman who dated Justin Timberlake. There was never any bad press until she was 18 or 19 (adult) and out drinking and smoking in clubs. The first bad press I remember was reading about her drunken exploits in Berlin. I believe she and Justin Timberlake had already bought a home and were living together by that time. You cannot blame Lynn Spears for the bad decisions her adult daughter makes, particularily when that adult is a married woman, and a mother.

Jamie Lynn also seems to have a pretty good head on her shoulders, despite the current unfortunate circumstances she finds herself in. I think that her taking the time to make the decision that was right for her before telling anyone about her pregnancy shows incredible strength and maturity. It would have been far more easy to run to Momma so she could make a decision for her. She undoubtedly knew how this would effect her career and she also knew that this would influence the advice others might give her. She may lose her status as a "Tween Idol", but if she keeps her wits about her and deals with this positively, she may very well become an excellent roll model for other young teens who may have chosen to keep their babies.

I also have to ask why so many blame Lynn Spears, but not one person has mentioned Britney's and Jamie Lynn's dad? If we are blaming the parents, why is it all on Lynn???

sorry, but pregnancy is 100% effective, it's called abstinance OR, it's called being on the pill AND using a condom. Not for nothing, but in this day and age, I don't care if you do have a long term boyfriend, read the statistics on AIDS, children under the age of 18 are some of the fastest growing HIV infections. In this day and age, there is no reason for this to happen, I don't even know why any kid would risk it. I guess that is more my point with kids getting pregnant young, not using birth control is dumb, and if you aren't using, then you must want to get pregnant. Just an fyi, people say condoms break, yeah, I am sure that happens, but I am 30 years old, and I have never been on the pill, I only used condoms, not only have I never had an unplanned pregnancy, and I can get pregnant very easy, but I have never had a condom break either. sorry, you still haven't sold me on the accident thing.

Hey, you missed my point, don't bite my head off. I never said she should go have an abortion! All I said is that that is the way these companies think. How is it going to look for a 16 year old pregnant girl to be on a kids aimed network where she is a role model??? I never said that I made that judgement or even think it's right, I realize that people mess up and make mistakes, no one but Jesus is perfect, maybe I came off sounding harsh, maybe it's just because I have personally seen too many young mothers running the welfare system, pawning their kids off to parents and family members. I never said she would be like that. My whole point was this is how Hollywood is, and Nickelodean might fear for the integrity of their network, I never said I thought she shouldn't be able to work again.

It depends on which state you reside. Could be anywhere between (I think) 13 and 18. It has been a while since I looked up that info.

Well if her bf violated the law then he should be arrested and convicted and declared a sexual predator, just like authrorities do with other bf/gf relationships.

(now it is my personal opinion that in circumstances like this this shouldnt be the case but hey since the authorities are always quick to do this type of think then they should in this case as well IF it has been deemed illegal)

didn't she just turn 16

I still have a problem with a 16 year old staying at a 19 year olds house.

Maybe it's a southern thing but I just can't come to grips with that. I know kids have sex ( I surly did before that age)and things happen around that age and when 25 & 28 it won't seem so big of a deal but man thats just creepy

From what I've been reading on all the entertainment sites, Jamie Lynn had been dating the guy since she was 13 and he was 16. That was a bad decision on Lynne Spears' part to allow that relationship to even start at that age. I've sai it before - when we treat kids like they are adults they think they can act like adults.

I'm sure the Zoey 101 money is tied up in trust until she is 18 - and OK magazine has reportedly offered $1million for pictures of the baby when it is born. But the senior Spears don't work at all as far as I can see - their daughters have been their meal tickets. I don't know if Jamie Lynn's money can support her, her boyfriend, her child and her parents forever. And Jamie Lynn wasn't all that impressive as an actress. I'm not sure what her other prospects are, in terms of work.

I had several friends in school that used condoms that broke. A couple of them was lucky and didn't end up pregnant. A couple others did.
Another friend of mine about 3 years ago got pregnant after a condom broke.
My own mother got pregnant with me while on the pill.
My cousin, just a couple years ago got pregnant while on the pill. Another friend of mine also got pregnant on the pill.

It happens.

Is it really true she was living with her 19yo bf??? If so that is just so wrong. :sad2:

If Brit didn't have problems until she moved out, you would think the Spears parents wouldn't then allow their 16 year old youngest daughter to move in and live with her 19 year old BF, but they did. They pimped out their kids for profit and didn't give them the education and parenting they needed to deal with life and the stresses of their careers. Maybe they aren't to blame for all their children's bad decisions, but they are the reason their children aren't capable of making better decisions.

pathetic :sad2:

I knew this kid was doomed the first time I saw her on the Amanda Bynes show 4 or 5 years ago. She had "whirlwind" "star struck" "poor judegement" written all over her.
