I'm about a week late with this but THANK YOU for all of your congratulations (on my disney engagement!!).

I've been sick (with a sinus infection) for a while so I hope to post some of the pics of the Lodge that I took on my trip this evening...

in the mean by...here's a link to my trip report :)

TRIP REPORT

The Disney Vacation Club (DVC) announced on October 11, 2006, that the Animal Kingdom Lodge would be the home of the next DVC resort at Walt Disney World. Rumors have been circulating for some time that the Contemporary was next resort to add DVC accommodations, but in recent weeks the focus had shifted to Animal Kingdom Lodge. The first phase will be the opening of 134 remodeled existing rooms at the resort in late 2007. The next phase will be the opening of a new building containing 324 villas. A new table service restaurant is also planned at the Lodge.

I added one final note to my trip report. It is coming as a nice surprise to me from
Disney world. :goodvibes

Hi Briar Rose, princess:
Your pictures are great. I never realized how beautiful the AK lodge really is. The pool looks really nice.

Congrats on your engagement! :cool1: :cool1:

Beautiful photos!

pigletforver is at AKL right now, she mentioned to me that Don in concierge told her the concierge rooms would move to the 4th floor once DVC took over the 6th & part of the 5th and there would be some new lounge set up for them on 4. The 6th floor lounge would be a DVC lounge :(

This makes me sad, part of the attraction of staying concierge is the atmosphere of that beautiful lounge over the lobby. I suppose they could make a new lounge savanna view, that would be nice. But still :(

Getting ready to leave. In just 3 short hours I will be at the house of the Mouse.... :cool1: Can't wait to see the look on my family's face when we pull up to AKL. since they don't know that we are staying there. See ya all next week. Everyone have a great and safe weekend.

Hi Piglet'sPal, thats a fun surprise you have in store for them. Where do they *think* they are staying?

POR. and I've almost slipped a couple of times when they've asked where we are staying.......... :rotfl:

LOL... my DD doesn't know she is going to WDW in December, sometimes I slip up, but she has not caught on.

Have a great trip, what a super surprise!

OK, coming to the experts on this one:

We're talking about AKV over in the DVC area and the question was posed if all the rooms being "taken over" by DVC are deluxe rooms.

My response was that I thought ALL the rooms on 5 and 6 were deluxe or larger, so they must be.

Someone has now reported they they stayed in a room (5115 on Ostrich Trail overlooking the parking lot) on 5 that was NOT deluxe.

Anyone able to shed more light on this? I wouldn't be surprised, at all, if I was mistaken....and figure you guys are the best source of info on the matter. If it IS a mix of standard and deluxe...anyone know what the break down of rooms is (deluxe vs standard) and where the different types are?

Heh heh. I had to go to Disney for a conference back in January. My wife and I didn't tell our kids til we got them up the morning of the trip to go to the airport. Man, was keeping that secret tough! But the surprise went over like gangbusters with our 3 year old. She (now 4) still talks about it, and the trip. Even my now 2 year old son sees the Disney vacation commercials and starts going nuts.

:)

Don from AKL CL said in an e-mail yesterday that AKL CL would still be there but the rooms would be smaller. So, maybe DVC is taking over all the deluxe rooms.

I couldn't figure out what he meant by that statement but now it makes some sense.

I'm not an expert but studied up on AKL concierge before we booked it. From what I understand (but I could be wrong!), the Ostrich and Giraffe Trails on the 5th floor do not have deluxe rooms. The Kudu and Zebra Trails have the deluxe rooms. I'm not sure about the rooms around the lobby. Anyone else know?

I did go and try to verify my answer. The buildings on the Kudu and Zebra trails jut out on the fifth floor just a couple feet. In fact you can see it on Briar Rose's first picture.

I found a picture of the pool view rooms on the Giraffe trail and the building did not jut.
