Resort Thread Jambo! Disney's ANIMAL KINGDOM LODGE

Thank you, this is very helpful. We will not have a car this trip.
FYI if you want to visit Jambo House during your stay (to eat, shop or use the pool there), there’s a walking path from the Zazu elevator end of Kidani over to Jambo; the walk is about 10 minutes. If you don’t want to walk (in August it’s likely to be too hot), there’s a free shuttle that runs continuously between the front entrances of Kidani and Jambo, or you can catch a bus. The park buses go from Kidani to Jambo, and the DS buses go from Jambo to Kidani - the exception is near park opening time, when Kidani and Jambo don’t share buses.

More information about locations, the bus stop is on the Timon and Zazu elevator side and the pool is on the Rafiki/Pumbaa side. BTW you can use both the Kidani and Jambo pools.

And, all along both hallways are multiple large windows for watching the animals.

What’s Changing at Animal Kingdom Lodge?

Hello everyone! It has been quite a while since I have been on the DIS Boards. I do have a question. I have had MANY vacations to WDW, but I have never even seen AKL at all. I have a Dec. 1st reservation for Kadani Village. I am 72 years old, and will be totally solo, as most of my vacations have been. I am concerned about the long walk to my room. I will have a DVC studio room. Should I request a room closer to the lobby? I am aware that requests are not guaranteed. Also, .... I like the typical American breakfast of eggs, toast, sausage, juice, and tea. Is there a good breakfast place for me that is close to Kadani Village? Thanks SO Much!
After your stay, please come back and post as to how you liked it, and especially how you liked Sanaa for breakfast (if you went there). I love staying there, but then I could spend so much of my vacation at Animal Kingdom also. It's not for everyone!

Working on a full picture of a Studio, but someone staying there said there is NO 5th sleeper in the studio.

I am back from Animal Kingdom Lodge - Kidani Village. Both of the lobbies were totally beautiful. All the cast members were very helpful and supportive. My room was not refurbished yet, but still great. I must say ... that small, casual restaurant downstairs called Sanaa was wonderful. I didn't want the buffet at Jambo House because I would eat FAR too much. Sanaa was perfect for me. My requests of near the lobby, and higher floor were both granted. My room did not have a view of the animals, which was OK. It was easy enough to leave my room and then just go to the large window in the hallway, or the lookout places on the lobby floor. FINALLY, tea bags were supplied in the room, along with the coffee. Although there were some kids yelling down the hallway, it really didn't bother me much. It is terribly important to me to bring my own DVD's and DVD player. It helps me sleep - especially with a solo vacation. There are no longer DVD players in the room. I am glad that I brought my own. The cast members on the night shift went all out trying to find me a DVD player. They did find one, but they also showed me how I could get my own DVD player running correctly. I had it hooked up correctly, but I had to choose the "input" on the TV. Once that issue was resolved, I had my player hooked up for the whole vacation! I had a lot of time to spare between official check-out, and the time that Mears Connect would pick me up, so I used a lot of that time to watch the animals. It was a very relaxing thing to do before all the rush-rush of the airport. I would be glad to answer any questions if you have any.

Refurbished Deluxe Studios at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge – Kidani Village

From the moment you step inside, you’ll notice the updated vinyl flooring that replaces the older carpet, offering a clean, modern feel while remaining in harmony with Kidani’s earthy aesthetic. The hallway has fresh paint and new carpeting, while some original architectural details and door elements remain untouched but refreshed in tone.

Gorgeous Bathroom Redesign

Let’s start with the bathroom, which has been fully overhauled. Unlike the more limited updates seen at other resorts like the Grand Californian, Kidani’s bathrooms are completely modernized:

  • New vanity and countertops with rich wood detailing
  • Vibrant orange-and-earth toned tile in the shower area, featuring both rain and handheld showerheads
  • Glass shower doors replacing curtains
  • Built-in shampoo, conditioner, and body wash dispensers
  • Updated lighting and artwork

The design strikes a great balance between rustic and refined, with darker wood framing around the mirror and pops of color that reflect the African-inspired theming.

Updated Kitchenette Area

While we said goodbye to the zebra print tile, we welcomed a new colorful backsplash that brings a cheerful brightness to the space. You’ll still find a mini fridge, microwave, toaster, and now a Keurig Mini, which is a nice upgrade for morning coffee lovers. Cabinet hardware and paint have also been refreshed.

New Murphy Bed and Sofa Setup

One of the most noticeable changes is the pull-down Murphy bed, replacing the traditional sleeper sofa. The vibrant red couch offers comfortable daytime seating, and when pulled down, reveals a cozy bed featuring soft linens and an adorable piece of artwork of Simba and Nala resting under a starlit savanna sky. The handles on the Murphy bed integrate seamlessly with the resort’s architectural design.

Other enhancements in this space include:

  • Colorful throw pillows and accent rug
  • Refreshed lighting and wall art
  • A stunning sunset savanna mural on the front of the Murphy bed

Bedroom and Tech Upgrades

The main bed remains the same platform style as before, but now features a new tapestry behind the headboard with updated patterns that mirror the resort’s visual storytelling. Charging has been improved throughout the room, with both USB and USB-C ports added.

You’ll also notice:

  • An upgraded smart TV for streaming
  • Retained yet refreshed dresser and armoire, consistent with Kidani’s rustic wood style

Refreshed Seating Area and Decor Touches

The two chairs and table appear to have been reupholstered, keeping the carved wood structure but offering brighter fabric. Above the table hangs a new mirror with colorful stained-glass accents and a subtle nod to The Lion King with Simba and Pumbaa featured in the top panel.

The balcony remains the same, offering serene views of the resort’s grounds or savanna, depending on your room category.

Thanks, as always, mrsap! The mirror is my favorite addition. I hope that is in the other units as well!

I'm very happy to see Disney trending back towards a table and chairs in the studios. IMO, one of the worst decisions was removing them. We mostly stay in 1 bedrooms, and only usually do 2-3 nights in a studio during a trip, but I did not like the setup in our BW studio a few years ago.

This is gorgeous. Totally on point. Seems DVC is listening to us members. Other refurbs have been criticized as being bland. I was nervous about this one. They kept the original soul of the place. I sure hope they treat Jambo the same way. They are also revisiting the Grand Californian with a second pass! Sorely needed since they really cheaped out on the initial refurb.

Don’t see that beautiful stained glass-looking mirror in any of these pictures, like in the studio. However, I am so glad that they kept the feel of Kidani in many ways. I have to admit, the new lamp with the animals is beautiful, but I will miss the dino (or whatever it was) egg one. My grandkids are going to love sleeping in the main room and they may have to take turns on the below TV pull-out!
