Resort Thread Jambo! Disney's ANIMAL KINGDOM LODGE

Hey all....planning on spending the first two nights of our visit in August at AKL. I was reading the first post on this thread and it mentioned that there was a Bush Camp for Kids that happens on Saturdays. Is that still going on?

Can anyone tell me if they still have the POG slushy at The Mara. It shows on the website but not on mobile order. Thanks

Does anyone happen to be there now? How big of an inconvenience is this? We are heading there in a little over a week.

It wouldn't surprise me-they admitted to me that there are often things available that aren't listed on the mobile order. For a long time the butternut squash soup wasn't on the mobile order but was always available.

Do the rooms at Jambo House have a steamer or an iron? I’m finishing up packing for a visit this week and trying to figure out if I can leave my travel steamer behind.

These are the amenities for the AKL Jambo rooms:

  • Beverage Cooler
  • Coffee and tea set up
  • Coffee maker
  • Complimentary high-speed WiFi Internet access
  • Flat panel TV
  • Hairdryer
  • In-Room Safe
  • Iron & Ironing Board
  • Patio or Balcony
  • Telephone with voicemail
So yes, an iron or steamer will be included.
Have fun.

Can anyone who is at Jambo now check if the Victoria Falls Lounge still serves the hibiscus margarita please?

Piggybacking on Victoria Falls. Can some send a pic of current food menu?

Maji Pool Bar has a Hibiscus Punch Alcoholic drink and Sana'a Lounge has a drink called the Sparkling Hibiscus (also alcoholic) but haven't seen a Hibiscus Margarita listed anywhere.

Hi all! What time is the Jambo House pool usually open until in early December?

Would booking a water view help guarantee a shorter walk to the room? Looking at TP it looks like you have to have a view of the pool so it seems that would guarantee you aren’t way out on the wings of the hotel?

No, the refurb has not started yet. The Kidani portion of the refurb is scheduled to begin sometime in October.
I'm hoping we get a refurbished 2BR Villa when we arrive in December. Ddil is fastidious about cleanliness and, because the rooms are showing wear and tear, they don't look spotless. I'm not DVC but I'm sure they know I've done the tour and communicated with them. Maybe they will want to make a good impression!

Just list "close to lobby" in requests. Assume you want a shorter walk to bus stop? You could call and ask that be noted too. When you get there, go to the desk first and ask if they managed to keep you close. If not, ask if waiting for your room longer might get you a closer room. I succeed at improving my location most of the time if I was not happy with the first location.

I admit to being a pessimist, but I would say that it's doubtful that you will get a better room because you have done the DVC tour.

I doubt the room assigner knows who did the DVC tour. And I doubt the room assigner knows which rooms are showing less wear and tear than others. And even if the room assigner knows you did the DVC tour and knows which rooms are showing less wear and tear than others, I doubt the fact that you did the tour would get you a room which shows less wear and tear. Some people do the tour because they want whatever freebie is offered for doing it.

People are always complaining that the DVC rooms show wear and tear -- even shortly after they have been refurbished. Some DVC resorts run at 100% capacity, meaning the rooms are in use more than some hotel rooms. Also, sometimes there are dumb design decisions which result in wear and tear being more evident than it should. If DDIL is fastidious about the appearance of the room, then maybe DVC rooms aren't right for your family.

Sorry for being a... what's the expression, Debbie Downer? That would be me.
