Resort Thread Jambo! Disney's ANIMAL KINGDOM LODGE

To see giraffes and zebras, when you book your rental ask the owner to put in a request for your room to be on the Sunset savanna. That's the one the giraffes and zebras are on, along with other animals. Some Kidani savanna view villas overlook the Arusha savanna, and there are different animals there, no giraffes or zebras.
Not that Sunset savanna isn't a really nice place to stay and see animals, they actually have several savannas at AKL, and have giraffes roaming most of them. If you don't get Sunset, it doesn't mean you won't see giraffes.

@disprincessbear, Kidani overlooks the Sunset and the Pembe savannas, and of those two only the Sunset savanna has giraffes. The Pembe savanna does not. Jambo House savanna view villas do overlook some other savannas that are not visible from Kidani villas. See map here: https://www.wdwinfo.com/maps/DAKLMap.pdf.

Thanks for the info. It must be Jambo that has another savanna or 2 with the giraffes. Appreciate the clarification - always learn something new out here!

Yes, I think the giraffes can ramble over to some or all of the other Jambo savannas. On the Kidani side, there's a fence between the Sunset and Pembe savannas, and the giraffes can't get over there. There are some interesting animals on Pembe, though, such as Red River hogs and some smaller antelope. We were just there last month and had a Sunset savanna view from our room, but I had to stop and watch the animals on the Pembe savanna several times on our way to and from the bus stop!

I posted on restaurants, too, but thought someone here might know. Does Sanaa offer mobile ordering for breakfast? I can't find confirmation that it does. And does anyone know what time they open?

MDE is seriously lacking in giving info, I guess because it's switched to lunch and dinner Sanaa to-go ordering right now.

Ok! Good to know. If I’m using a service like David’s, is it still possible to put in requests like this?

Sanaa to-go starts at lunch (11:30). You can mobile order breakfast from Mara, though.

The owner has to put in that request, so I'd check with the service you use. It's not hard for the owner to do it, and if they know when the reservation is made, that might make it more likely to be done. David's and the other rental agencies try to avoid having to contact the owner over and over to do this, that and the other thing for the renter.

OTOH, at Kidani far more of the savanna view villas face the Sunset savanna than the Pembe, so even if your request isn't submitted, there's a good chance you'll have that view!

To clarify because I've lost my mind: they offer quick service breakfast but you have to order in person, right? If you want to mobile, you gotta run over to Mara?

Right--Sanaa offers breakfast as a "fast casual dining" option, but not mobile ordering.

@CarolynFH thank you for the help! I appreciate it. :)

Can anyone point me to where I could see a picture of a 2 bedroom lock off? I’m trying to see what the difference between the two really looks like.

You asked for a picture of a 2-bedroom lock-off. I believe you are asking about Kidani Village.

I don't have photos, but a 2-bedroom lock-off is a 1-bedroom and a studio with a connecting door. So if you find photos of those two types of rooms, you will get a general idea.

The studio portion of the lock-off has its own kitchenette and its own door to the hallway. That can be good if you have some adults who will be coming and going earlier or later than the rest of the group. It's not so good if you have young kids and you don't want them in their own room with a door to the hallway. A dedicated 2-bedroom does not have a door to the hallway in either bedroom. But maybe you already knew that.

Here’s a link to DVC News photos of AKV. There are floor plans for the 2 BR dedicated and lock off. https://dvcnews.com/resorts/animal-kingdom-villas/maps-a-photos-46503.

Thank you to both of you! I’m trying to figure out the differences between the 2 bedroom villas and the lock offs, so both answers were super helpful. :) I appreciate it!

Again, you might already know this and are looking specifically for photos, but the main reason we love the 2BR dedicated is the fact the 'studio' side comes with 2 real beds, not the bed and the pullout like the 2BR lock offs.

Oh that's good to know, too. Thank you. I just discovered these are two different things, so that's why I'm asking about them. Your info was really helpful!

Most of the videos on YouTube are of 2BR lock-offs, but there are a couple of dedicated ones. You have to do a specific search. I am requesting a dedicated for the 2 beds, even though a kitchenette for my daughter and granddaughter would be nice.

We are at Kidani, and just happened to ask at the front desk where the walkway to Jambo was as we were headed to swim, and learned the pool at Jambo is closed, too :guilty: They offered up going to Saratoga to swim but it's not exactly convenient. I stopped two families headed to the pool so they wouldn't make the trek unknowingly. I wish we had gotten a push notification or something before getting the whole family ready for the pool.

Lifeguard at Jambo said they are waiting on a part. He's hoping it reopens later today or tomorrow. Sadly today is our pool day.

Bummer when things break on warm sunny days!

OH NO!! This is terrible. Hope you get a swim in before the end of your trip. Any idea how long the Jambo pool has been closed?

I've been worried about pool crowding at Jambo but did not anticipate both pools being closed!
