Jamaica excursions...What was great, what wasn't? Help!

My DH and DD really enjoyed the bobsled and ziplining. But DH decided that was the last time they would be ziplining outside North America. He didn't feel the safety guidelines/instructions were nearly as strict as they are used to in the US/Canada.

I have to say, I never felt unsafe on the zip line. In fact on 1, my DS didn't make it all the way across. The guide who was still back on the platform with me (I was last on this one) said to me he must not have made it. I thought he was joking but then I realized he was serious. From what I was told the guide on the ending platform manually pulled himself out to drag DS in. They seemed to know what they were doing and were able to handle things when something came up. The only other time I have zip lined was in Las Vegas and I can't say I noticed anything different between the 2 experiences in the way of safety.

The bobsleds on the other hand had me nervous that someone was going to smash into me or I would smash into my DS in front of me. They went a lot faster than I had expected and if anyone were to crash that could be as bad as a high impact car crash. Thankfully we were all fine though. :)

we went to Blue Hole. We rented a private driver. I believe was $200 for 4-5 hours. drove us all around. to the Blue Hole. Separate like $15 pp cost there with a guide plus tip. it was great and not crowded. Then we saw some locals and got fresh cocunut and rum. stopped for shopping and then stopped at a local food spot and ate. it was great. if i go back i'd do the same thing. the local drive and personal attention was great.

Thank you for the info!

Thanks! Did you dive the Blue Hole?

Has anyone here recently visited the Green Grotto Caves? I'm traveling with my 7 year old and my parents. The 7 year old thinks the caves will be awesome and really wants to go. My parents are still quite healthy, but not the most active. Is this a strenuous walk through the caves?
We did it three years ago with out 6 and 8 year old and my parents. It is not a strenuous walk at all. There is one small hole you can crawl through, but there is an alternate way around it. The only negative experience was the drive. Due to weather we had to port in Montego Bay instead of Falmouth. It added 45 minutes each way to the drive, and made for a pretty long day. It was a very good excursion and the caves are quite an interesting site.

Thanks. Sounds like it will be ideal.

We did the walking, culinary/heritage tour in Falmouth with Jamaica Culinary Tours in January, I found information on it on trip advisor and it had great ratings. I thought it was a really well organized tour and supported local vendors in Falmouth. Our tour guide knew everybody and we got to eat some really good food! Tour was about 2 hours starting at 11a.m. and we visited about 10 different places and got a great history lesson on the parish. They also offer a full-day tour that involves a trip to somewhere else in Jamaica. I would highly recommend it!
