Walt Disney Pictures has acquired rights to the Cecelia Ahern novel If You Could See Me Now and will turn it into a musical vehicle for Hugh Jackman, according to a variety of news stoies today.
Although the book has not yet been released Disney has snapped up the rights and given the project to Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (who are already working on remakes of 'Footloose' and 'Hairspray') will produce the film, along with Jackman and John Palermo. Ms. Ahern is the 23-year-old daughter of Ireland's prime minister Bertie Ahern.
Jackman will play the imaginary friend of a lonely 6-year-old who has been left behind by his mother and is being raised by his aunt. The twist: The aunt can suddenly see the imaginary friend, and a romance blossoms between them.
The book will be published by Hyperion early next year. In the meantime, Jackman has a busy schedule ahead with the filming of X-Men 3 and a spinoff called "Wolverine"
