... his pediatrician suspects he may have a peanut allergy so we are going to have tests today (luckily they had a cancellation, our first appointment was for OCTOBER!) Keep your fingers crossed for us and if you care to, blow some Pixie Dust to Maine will ya??

UPDATE: Thanks for the Pixie Dust..... but he's allergic to peanuts.:( The allergist said, "It's a good thing your pediatrician referred you- he has a severe reaction to peanuts." She gave us the number of a peanut allergy support group and she must have told me 10 times how life threatening this allergy can be. HOWEVER- he had no reaction to other legumes and nuts... so it is JUST peanuts.

He is also allergic to dust, cats and ragweed.

I had one last week. They scratch you a bit - that's it.

I'm just hoping he isn't allergic to peanuts..... cats, dogs, trees, mold, dust.... I can handle all that- but the dreaded peanut allergy? No thank you!

Go get some breakfast Tony!;)

Good luck with the allergy testing! I had my 4 1/2 year old tested recently. I didn't suspect a peanut allergy but she had an awful Spring -- her eyes kept getting all swollen up. Thankfully once Spring passed she was much better.

Peanut allergies can be bad -- I hope he's okay.

He didn't swell up or anything, he just stopped eating peanut butter and peanuts saying, "Peanut butter hurts my throat." We shall see later today!

I hope it goes well.

Sending good-luck PD that way!

Hopefully he's getting the scratch version instead of the poke verison. The poke version is a little more painful so be prepared. :)

Best of luck to you and him!
You are right, the peanut allergy is a pain. You would be surprised how many things say "may contain peanuts" or "made in a facility which also processes peanuts".

Best of luck to Jack. Like others, hope it's not the peanuts simply because it's listed as an ingredient in so many things.

Sounds like me when I was a kid. Add all cats, pollen, cut grass, milk and chocolate to the list and it wasn't very fun. :(

I've grown out of most of them thankfully.

Yes, our pediatrician had already given us epipens and taught us how to use them. I have checked out www.peanutallergy.com already, but thank you for the tip!
Luckily, I have found very few things in the house right now that I purchase regularly that contain peanut products. As someone pm'd me said, "Restaurants are the hardest". We are going to WDW in September/October..... I hope we can get the info easily. And if not, we'll just choose something else I suppose!

You might want to check out The Food Allergy Network . From their site you can sign up for e-mail notifications of recalls. I find those e-mails VERY helpful.

Good luck with the allergy.

My nephew is severely allergic to peanuts, and my brother and his wife called Disney World ahead of their visit for information about the restaurants. When they arrived at the Crystal Palace, the chef visited their table and made arrangements for a safe meal for the child (not the buffet). Most restaurants are very conscious of the various food allergies and will accomodate their customers. The allergy websites are great sources of information.

Both of my boys are allergic to peanuts (among other foods and environmental things). Most Disney counter service restaurants have books with ingredient listings for their foods.

At sit down restaurants, if you don't feel comfortable with your wait person's answers, do not hesitate to ask for a manager. Better safe than sorry. Also, when making your PS's, make sure to tell them about the allergies. Then, tell them again when you arrive.

Disney is a great place for people with food allergies. We have only had a few problems, some having to do with language barriers in Epcot. Most of our encounters with food service there have been great.

Good luck!
